I read some comments recently in which it seems that there are now people who think that freedom means things like a basic government wage for existing and universal health care. Talk about a forehead slap. Such a simple concept. Freedom means vast open opportunities, but not a single guarantee. Freedom is not the removal of natural obstacles (physical ability limitations, environmental hazards, et cetera); it's the absence of artificial obstacles (mandates, government regulations, taxation on labor and local commerce) Freedom tends to be messy. It is quite often lacking in all but the barest comforts and luxuries. Also to be committed to freedom can be quite lonely these days but for me life would not be worth living without it.

@paulrevere2379 Жыл бұрын
@@foxtrotjulietbravo5536 I agree with your point if not your words. They are anything but subtle anymore imo, although they always still deny their perfidiousness. I think maybe the battle to retain meaning pertaining to words has already been lost relative to the masses, and maybe that means that the grand experiment in freedom is merely living on past momentum. I remind myself pretty regular that the most important thing is not to win the war, but to fight on the correct side. Is it better to have been a complacent slacker who took everything for granted when things were good after enough men of meaning made it so, OR to see things crumble before you, but to be one of those holding it together in your own little part of the world? There are many who bemoan losing the good old days, but, save for a few, they were never the ones to make the days good; they merely enjoyed the benefits.

C H also rubbished the Catholic Church, making very sweeping comments about it that fed the bias of the crowd. He was not interested in reasoned argument. He was there to entertain and get laughs. Being knowledgeable, well-read, eloquent and 'witty' he presented a very biased picture of the Church and everyone found it hilarious. He chose to focus on the barnacles hanging off the Church, claimed certain things were dogma when they were not, etc. Great pity for him; great pity for anyone listening to him.

The last scene in the movie "Saving Private Ryan" is quite touching and moving. In the scene, the now elderly Ryan, visiting the US military cemetry at Normandy in France, was kneeling down before the tombstone of Capt Miller who led a squad to save him. Ryan was contemplating if the life he had led since the war was good enough for (the sacrifice made by) Miller. Maybe the best way for generations born after WW2 to not let down the sacrifices which many Allied soldiers had made is to live as decent and as honest as possible life.

Just enjoy listening to theze two! John has a unique ability in interviewing people. I have NEVER seen a bad one! The value of the human heart is valuable in that out of the heart cones all kinds of evil!! Thus I have never been surprized of what cruelity perpetrated by humanity against another. Shocked perhaps but not surprized!

One of the eye opening concepts I learned from Dennis : freedom is not a natural human value. I wouldn't have thought that because I have a strong enough desire for freedom to give up many things. That put The Exodus in perspective, as well as understanding my fellow humans.

Satin is very much alive in our world. What does God want from each of us to bring our lives closer to His path. Dennis continues to try and help people make better choices in their daily lives which will bring long term happiness for themselves and others they come in contact with whether it be in a video interview or casual conversation.

Dennis is wrong as usual. Why human rights, non human rights and environmentalism must be defended. All life matters. Conservative and Dennis deny this reality. Why Conservative values and religious dogma are a threat to all life. And why church attendances and Conservative govts are falling globally. Wake up.

Thank you for the rare wisdom you both dispensed during this conversation. I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated it. Dennis, your portrayal of men, “Great, I’ll just be the animal I am,” was so funny (because it’s true) I had the best laugh I’ve had in quite a while.

I don't understand either. We are a different country to New Zealand and our governments often oppose each other over trade or the deportation of criminals etc. It would be like saying Canada and the US are the same because they share a continent.

Its a position not often articulated by commentators from this country, with perhaps the exception of Lieghton Smith, and he is an expat Australian. The interview was really a world inclusive one in the sense that it appertained to our western future. We are often referred to Australasia in this part of the world. Apart from that I just find John Anderson eminently measured and sensible . I fully realise we often have a difference of opinion on some subjects but by and large history and our geographic position in the world mean that we follow a similar coarse in the world, I know there are a lot of people in NZ who follow JAs podcasts

In The Brothers Karamazov, one of the chapters often called the Great Inquisitor, Dostoevsky said it well. Humans are horrified of freedom. They will gladly lay it at the feet of anyone who guarantees or promises bread and security.

Excellent conversation but in one thing I would disagree. If the US goes down it does not necessarily mean the death of liberty. Empires come and empires go. At one time the center of liberty and Christendom was England. That center eventually moved across the Atlantic. There is nothing to say it won't move across the Pacific, back across the Atlantic, form North to South, or West to East. I find it interesting that currently the Russian Orthodox Church is standing stronger against the spirit of the age than almost any in the west. Who knows who will be the new Irish monks who save the remnants of culture through this next dark ages.
