John is joined again by author and historian Victor Davis Hanson to review the current state of the union of American states as they approach the midterm elections. Politics in America is broken, and the country is more divided across political and ideological lines than it has ever been. Where is the next Lincoln to lead them out of the malaise?
Victor Davis Hanson offers his expert insight into these questions as they discuss political strategy, cultural dislocation, leftist elitists and their shibboleths, the upcoming midterm elections, the legacy and future of Trumpism and much more.
Victor Davis Hanson is an American classicist, military historian, columnist, and farmer. He has been a commentator on contemporary politics for the National Review and The Washington Times and is currently the Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.
In addition to writing hundreds of articles, book reviews and newspaper editorials, Hanson is also the author of twenty-four books and hosts a regular podcast series, 'The Victor Davis Hanson Show'. Hanson was awarded the National Humanities Medal in 2007 by President George W. Bush, and was a presidential appointee in 2007-08 on the American Battle Monuments Commission. His latest book, The Dying Citizen, was published in October 2021.

@@yehudaclinton6252 - Every time the rates went down, many people calculated that they could borrow more, driving real estate prices up. Then this happened. I feel sorry for them, but many people are indulgent and financially illiterate. I know of people with very average jobs and $800,000 mortgages. Some do it with interest only (no principal) repayment plans. This was inevitable.

The Republicans need to have Reasons why one should vote for them as opposed to relying on the message that we are not Democrats, and a vote for them is a vote against the Democrats. That is basically how Trump won. He presented a Vision primarily, and secondarily a rebuffing against the Democrats.

Conservatism that advocates for neutral government and being 'left alone' will always lose to the Left who wants to seize power, increase their influence in all institutions, reward their friends and punish their enemies using that power. GOP has conserved little since World War II because in the end, they're just default progressives driving the speed limit waiting for the left to move the ball down the fieled.

For all of Victor's wisdom, it's interesting to note that what happened to President Trump in 2020 bears a direct influence on the regular guy's view of what we face going forward. Fraud makes everything else questionable, and a complete lack of trust in American institutions by the American citizens that are supposed to trust them makes everything happening going forward incredibly important and suspect. 2020 and the future are not separate items in the way that Victor hopes. It's not as easy for regular people to say "the agenda is more important" when election integrity and government accountability ARE a major part of the agenda. What happened to President Trump is Exhibit A for all the regular citizens who sense and see that something is terribly off with how we're being governed. His twitters mean/meant nothing to his voters, because he talks like a regular guy. The "smart crowd" never understood that, and still doesn't. Our only hope is that the midterms are so unbelievably overwhelmingly Republican, that no amount of election trickery can undo it. Eyes on and fingers crossed.

If VDH said so I have to consider it… but he still said that “they’re almost treating Desantis like he’s Trump”. Does he consider the FL governor to be emotional? Adroit? It doesnt matter who leads us, the media will still color them falsely and talk about anything but “Trump’s agenda”. Secondly, if he really considers losing a rigged election to be a consequence of a “fatal flaw” in Trump, then what I hear him saying is this: we know the its rigged, we know they cheated, we just have to win anyway, according to their rules. Im only devoting mental power to this line of thought because VDH said it, but after careful consideration I think VDH might be “mostly wrong”. (First time for everything? Lol)

Let's be honest, if you let a child have a temper tantrum, if you let them be violent, selfish, whiny, and demanding. If you let them lie and ignore reality. If you let them do all of these things and then give them what they want, what have you achieved? What have you incentivize? If we could have a reasonable adult conversation I would say you have a chance at not creating a monster if you negotiate. But we are witnessing hypocrisy, double standards, and foolishness at a level I've never seen before. How can the right yeild without setting a precedence we'll never be able to recover from?
