Nothing like making a BIG final statement with your headstone - this takes the cake! Thanks for sharing this with us, Ron.

The doc knew what he was doing. All these decades later and people are still talking about "doc." You too were drawn to it. Had the relatives inherited, everything would be dust in the wind by now. This monument will be around and noticed for a long time. Clever man. Thanks, Ron. Blessings from Michigan.

Beautiful day for a cemetery stroll..(but those bugs! 😮) Couple of nice zinc monuments.. The one for Elmore child is so unusual.. I like that just about any old cemetery you visit has the cedar trees in the older sections. Its very curious that the graves around the Willis monument were in a circle.. There has to be a story as to why..🤔
@frankbeachАй бұрын
Oh cool, I know where this is! I live in a town called Rockville not too terribly far from there. We have a cool little cemetery here that I think you'd like to check out. The Coffin family grave in particular is really interesting. (Yes, the family's name is Coffin.) There's all sorts of cool graves in there tbh. It would be worth a visit. Edit- the grave most people tell stories about is one for 2 sisters that drowned. People say its extremely haunted. Honestly I think the whole cemetery is, because twice when I've gone to take pictures, my camera has acted really weird, among other technological issues.

@@FacesoftheForgotten which one? There's Martha Payne murder...which happened across the street from the JR.High school...then there's one between Greencastle and Cloverdale on 231...and did you realize that the woman who was beheaded at the Bobby Mackeys place, down in Kentucky, is buried in Forest hill cemetery here in Greencastle...former sheriff Steve Fienwick is a historic when it comes to anything about Greencastle or Putnam County itself...he still with the Putnam County sheriff's department...he does court house duty mostly these days...I'm sure if you should contact him, he can fill your ears full...

If you get a chance Ron, and if you get to Rochester NY. Try to do a piece on Francis Tumbelty. He was also a snake oil salesman/ Indian medicinal doctor and a suspect in the Jack the Ripper murders. With your style of delivering subjects, I’m sure it would be awesome.

I got a big kick out of this story. Takes a lot of arrogance to have this huge obelisk in a small town where he didn't like anyone. The manifesto tells you a lot. The fact that he even had a manifesto tells you a lot. Thanks for sharing this, Ron. Really enjoyable.

His monument was a piece of work, just like him!😂 Seriously, how sad and scary to enter eternity with such pride, contempt, and no true legacy. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy..., but treasures in heaven which last forever."

Wow, this man was way too concerned about nothing all the time. He sound's like the original Doctor Kevorkian. You made me laugh when you said he took his own advice 😂 That monument is incredible. He sure thought a lot of himself when in reality he sounded like he was made up of a whole bunch of nothing. Either way, may he RIP ❤ 💐

Talk about ego. That monument is almost comical sitting there among normal monuments. Puzzling why the other graves are in a circle around it. Maybe that was part of his instructions or maybe he bought that piece of land? It's no telling. Thanks Ron for sharing this story.
