@@Ovan188 More specifically it reminds you of that fictional show that is featured in it... "Night Springs" I believe it was called. Funny little homage to The Twilight Zone. My favourite is probably the one episode that is about the obvious author-god self-inserting himself into his creation to put out the plot hole (a literal black hole at the basement of one of his characters).

Walter is great, and I love that he's not playing Hammy Rod Serling like most impressionists do. But I think he could be even less expressive. Compare Walter at 1:18 to Serling at 1:59. Walter does big facial expressions while Serling's face hardly moves. And Serling always goes back to that sly little smile, like he knows he's hiding something from you.

After reading one of them “holy books” makes one truly realize just how lowly and disgusting the image of all-powerful, all-knowing and ever-present deity is. I don’t believe in any gods, because the mere proposition of it is simply too much pathos for this here world, filled with shit and randomness. *BUT* I would’ve truly wanted to actually believe in whatever deity who’s created this entire shitshow, because that way I would’ve had a being to openly blame for every pointlessly unmerciful law of reality surrounding me. Alas - none of it exists. We are just flying through cold open space of cosmos on a life-filled rock that is destined to die one way or another once our sun explodes. Any empty building is inheritantly scary! When they did the prose adaptation of "Where Is Everybody?", the main character goes into the movie theatre, takes a ticket, drops one part of it in the box and puts the other in his pocket. When he's taken out of isolation, he still has the ticket in his pocket! This was to make it more "Twilight Zone-y!"

@@JohnWick-vh2qy It's called a human brain, people use it to research things before opening their mouths. Last time I checked, 90 year old grandmothers can live and 20 year old athletes can die. The ones who don't show symptoms are the scary ones because they don't know to quarantine themselves and pose a risk to others. And even if you do survive, there are lasting effects like those with prolonged sickness of over 3 months, permanent scarring of lung tissue in the majority of patients, and immunity of only about 2 months, just in time for a 2nd wave to hit the USA. But you know ignorance like yours is why we're laying off the nurses we saluted earlier this year, so maybe be thoughtful if you're going to respond, take my advice and look into the fact that we're still half a year away from a vaccine at best, and yet people are still rushing into the streets over here because of how deep De Nile is. It might help protect someone close to you if you did the research. You never know what healthy friend of yours you might never see again.

As someone who talks a lot to themselves, even when not isolated, the volume of dialog didn't really strike me as anything strange or in need of change. I can easily see myself reacting a very similar way, constantly talking to myself to filled the ever present silence of the area. Also, another spin on it could be that the reason why he was talking to himself so much is because technically this is all in his head. I often think in sentences, so again I can see myself doing this very thing. This isn't a criticism by the way! I'm really excited for this series! I hope you talk about The Eye Of The Beholder, (if thats ehat its called) it's one of my favorites!

So my cousin and I started watching The Twilight Zone when we were about 13 because our moms said this show scared them growing up. I was scared of everything growing up, and we both wanted to see if we could be braver than our parents. This episode though scared us for one reason..... Theres a scene during the day when the man is walking around and theres a mannequin in the background. The camera pans off of him, and then back and the fudgin mannequin is gone! Thats why we decided to continue watching Twilight Even now as grown adults we watch the series from beginning to end. So I for one am SO excited for this month!

Lovely discussion, Walter, and incredibly poignant comparison of the analogous circumstances of isolation and deprivation of physical presence that we all are currently contending with during this pandemic. Twilight Zone has always been to me a conduit for the exploration of human psychology amplified and extrapolated to its deepest extremity, which certainly suits the visceral, claustrophobic fear and freneticism of the abject solitude, loneliness, and abandonment associated with seemingly becoming the last person alive. As you beautifully articulated, these latent fears are greatly resonant within us, and the Twilight Zone is the perfect construct through which the very human responses and reactions to preternatural situations with such harrowing, realistic emotional stimuli can be showcased. I also agree with your perspective on the quality of the acting and the verisimilitude of the monologues performed. Having recently watched numerous episodes of the Twilight Zone (mainly in anticipation of this month haha) I noticed a somewhat prevalent tendency in the acting towards the theatrical, especially during character monologues, which compromised the believability of said character’s tribulations. I think we once spoke about this in the context of discussing why Marlin Brando was such a paragon of acting, but this sort of dramatic style of acting was rather concomitant with this time period of cinema and television. Still, for the most part, the performances were sufficiently grounded and realistic to properly convey the complex narratives, themes, and emotions that Rod Serling intended. Lastly, as themes appertaining to space travel and its possible physical or psychological threats are somewhat commonly explored throughout the series, it seems that the era of the late nineteen-fifties was rife with fears and speculations concerning the advancement of space technology and the potential for human travel, which would eventually become relevant in Rod’s work as a reflection of conversations pervading his societal zeitgeist. Overall, your writing and the video itself beautifully encapsulated the spirit of Rod Serling’s creation and demonstrated just how hard you worked to make this series a reality. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to the rest of this month!

Great start and very interesting. I believe Star Trek the Next Generation did an episode on the idea that the Twilight Zone as you said didn't use in the idea of a society oofing their members when they turn 60 years old.

Hell. Yes. After Walter's Batman TAS month, I was left wanting more of the same, as I maintain that he's possibly the biggest talent at Channel Awesome. And to tackle ANOTHER of my all time favorite shows with The Twilight Zone? *muah* I can't wait to see which episodes he picks. Also, the voice doesn't really match, but he REALLY has the facial mannerisms of Sir Rod down extremely well.

My favorite is the one with the pilots who start disappearing and no one remembers them. I also love the one about the old woman and Mr. Death, and the one with the telephone poles, and the one with the author who brings his characters to life

welp one episode of this show and i already saw inspiration for future movies like 28 days latter, i am legend, and the truman show. This show is the peak of artistic influence.

I kinda felt that way about the Goosebumps books, even the covers were scary enough to my child self.

@@rogue7723 me too. It's amazing how even the littlest things from the old stuff can have that affect. Sound designs, atmospheres, old voices, old designs, all of it had and still feels like they have an other worldly feeling that keeps you coming back.

This episode really scared me when I first saw it as a kid. For a time I thought it was because I was young, and children have a natural fear of being lost amd abandoned, but adults feel it too, the creepyness of abandoned places, of isolation. That said, your intro was perfect, and the epilogue... I could get into ramblings about it. Now my eyes are sweating.
