Thats a blessing i wish i had of done that i grew up without my biological father and with a teen mom I suffered a lot of abuse with a clear knowing that my mom did not want me. My grandmother taught me about god but not enough and I didn’t do my due diligence to read the bible and understand so because of always longing for a loving family without turning to god and asking for one and having a relationship with god first , now fast forward i am a single mother of 5 kids god has had so much mercy on me and without any family god has proven he still loves me anyway and he provides for my children. I now have been reading the bible calling on god and i now understand that there are reasons he doesn’t want is to live certain ways because the consequences are the pain & suffering i am now in. But i know gods grace will one day grant me a loving husband that puts god first.

I struggled with this topic. I dated a Christian guy for like 10 years. We were young, the wait seemed very long compared to biblical times. We were so sure we were going to get married. We were finishing school and preparing to be financially secured etc. I at times didn't see the point of waiting if we were so sure. It ended up not working out. I'm sure for some. But I'm also sure some people would genuinely just like to know. Not everyone has been raised in Church, & obviously not everyone is a Christian. I don't think it's fair to assume everyone's motives to be shameful. Either way I feel our job as believers is to speak the truth about sin in love and point people to Christ. Man, I made that mistake. My ex from my 20s and I had sex. I broke her virginity thinking I was going to marry her. But later in our relationship, we fought like cats and dogs. We broke up and it was far worst break-up than others After that I abstained for 14 years until I met my wife. Although breakups in the past were painful, it was nothing like that one. You have to look at it this way sex is the closest physical contact you'll ever have with another person. It is a beautiful thing, especially when you wait when you marry your spouse.

However, saying it's a mere consensual sexual act is also problematic (e.g. the Samaritan woman) (e.g. intentional one night drunken stand). In my belief the only sensible conclusion is "Marriage begins in the first sexual act between two unmarried persons of the opposite gender where they consciously intend lifetime monogamy thereafter". This is a rock-solid definition. And then if they broke up and later had an outward Christian ceremonial and legal marriage to someone else's, they'd be committing fornication in the case of the man and adultery in the case of the woman.

My fiancé and I have previously been married before and we both have children. The idea of not having sex before marriage when you already have can be difficult if you’re not doing it for the right reasons. Bringing God into the center of it and praising him through your success is what it’s all about. Blessing your marriage that is to come. We’ve struggled with this, especially with my fiancé being new to the Christian faith. However our premarital class through church and fellowship with our other class mates has helped him out a lot. Hey C Conroy, I have a Greek lesson for you. "Lust" means DESIRE. That's all. Our Victorian puritanical English society is the one which made a synonym for neutral desire with a sexual negativity. St Paul in 1 Tim uses the same verb (epithumeo) to those who DESIRE to be a bishop/church elder. Was he referring then to a sexual fetish of being a church elder? No. Don't DESIRE the WIFE of ANOTHER MAN. Jesus in Mt. 5:28 was paralleling the Ten Commandments. You need to be educated, have a high earning job for several years to be financially stable, save enough for a house, insurance, etc. Not to mention the confusing gender wars going on now I suppose back then, you can get marry young because you would still be supported by family members until you are financially stable yourself (certain cultures like mine did anyways). There was more community back then with everyone helping each back then with the best they can, in laws and relatives lived close by. They say it takes a village to raise a child but you the village was your relatives. So you weren’t necessarily alone in the process. This is great and all but I have yet to hear anybody address what single people should do if they never marry. Do they remain celibate for life? Do you spend your waking hours DESPERATELY seeking someone/anyone to marry and your sleeping hours dreaming about marriage? The realities of this situation need to be dealt with by the church. There are a LARGE number of people who will never find "the one," and it's not from a lack of trying. They're doing the "prep work" abstaining, going to church, praying, fasting, volunteering on 25 ministries, and everything else and the proposal never comes. Put your all in to God!! Everyone isn't going to be married but your life can be fulfilled with God and God alone. It's your flesh that keeps thinking about marriage. Maybe that's not what God has for you but if you trust Him..your life will be fulfilled and blessed. As for your son's you can teach them the right ways but it's up to them to believe,love and honor God and His word. Once you've planted the seeds the rest is up to your son's and God. Take your focus and energy off a finding a husband and put it all into your relationship with Christ. He loves you and wants what's best for you. While I love that you get your primary authority from Scripture, I have to say that your use of Deuteronomy 22:28-29 is not a strong argument against two consenting adults having sex before marriage. If you look at other translations apart from the NLT that you used (NIV, ESV, KJV), it clearly says that the required payment and forced marriage between a man and a woman that have had sex outside of marriage Is the law in a situation where a man rapes a woman, and the act is not consensual. Don't get me wrong, I think there are plenty of Verses in the Bible that clearly articulate God's heart on the matter: sex before marriage, even between two consenting adults, is sin in His eyes. I'm just saying that Deuteronomy verse is not one of them.

I am not sure why you are assuming that sex before marriage comes under the umbrella of "sexual immorality" - that seems to be the only thing that you can point to, but that is just not clear in the Bible. There is a long list of what sexual immorality is in the Old Testament, and the things that are listed are quite vile; and sex before marriage in a loving relationship is not listed, or even hinted at. It is the same in the New Testament; to act as if God condemned this as sin is just not proven in the Bible.

I'm a 37 year old male and still haven't had intercourse. The first and last thought of every single day is "I still haven't had sex." I'm Christian so from an early age decided it's best to wait for the right person but I never thought I'd still be waiting at this age. I've had some relationships, been on countless dates and had some sexual experience but just not gone all the way. I feel I have missed out on one of the greatest joys in life - true love and sex. It may not be too late but I haven't even come close to being in a relationship for years now. Maybe marriage is not in God's plan for me because a suitable partner seems impossible to find. Yet at the same time I have such a strong desire for one.

PERIOD? if you''re not married! Or is the context about marriage staying loyal and faithfull to only ONE person like a compagnionship! @@sweepthedust6936 thanks for checking in. No change for me sadly since I wrote that original post. I'll be 40 in a few months time. Still in the same place. As single and alone as I've always been. Perhaps sin is at fault and blessing in this area is being blocked somehow, or maybe I'm just unlucky. But then recently I read about spiritual spouses. At first I didn't think it didn't apply to me that is until I started having dreams of me being with a woman in these dreams, only quite recently. They are never overtly sexual apart from only one time when I was getting a hand job from this woman in my dream, most of the time she is just there and we're hugging or just together but we are an item. And I don't think it's the same woman. So is this a spirit spouse?? I have battled porn and masturbation my entire adult life. Is it possible then that this entire time, my lack of success in life is spiritual? And more specifically, due to possible demonic activity holding me back in life? I keep praying and seeking God over this but there still appears to be no progress or hope.

This is a false interpretation of the scriptures. According to biblical times people where virgins until marriage. Marriage was not a ceremony but sexual intercourse. The woman at the well was told she had many husbands because she had sexual intercourse with many men. Biblical marriage has nothing to do with a ceremony and filling in paperwork. People falsely interpret it this way because they are more concerned with ceremonial and legal aspect of today’s society. Yet no where in the bible does it define marriage as a legal union but a spiritual union. Context matters... If you love your bible you will learn it’s history.
