My theory was that Teba's injury when fighting Vah Medoh hurt him more than let on in BOTW, so he can't fight without getting hurt even more.

I love your idea of Tulin sneaking out after Teba says no to him helping link because it gives me this idea for the post-dungeon cutscene where Teba, while proud of his son, is also exaserbated that he blatantly disobeyed his orders lol

Being the village leader wouldn’t stop Teba from fighting, considering Riju and King Sidon are fighting. If he doesn’t die, I think Teba is going to suffer a major injury, like losing a wing.

He could just have a bigger responsibility to the village. We might see him ready to head out to fight the monster before Link meets up with him. Giving Link information, Teba trusts Link to handle the situation, but after learning about Link's deed with Teba beating Vah Medo, Teba's son decides to help Link. Teba then acts as more of a chieftain than warrior, passing the torch of warrior to his son.

My theory is that, as the protector of Rito Village and the only Champion descendant able to fly, Teba set off to investigate the Sky Islands or the Cyclone pretty much immediately, even before Link. For whatever ominous reason, he doesn't come back and Tulin joins Link to search for him. Likewise, Yunobo might go missing in the caves beneath Death Mountain, possibly leading Link to the "Fire Temple". In this case, Yunobo would play a very similar role to Darunia in OOT, held captive within the dungeon.

I like the theory that he took over as village chief after beard owl dies/ retire. But I’d also like to add that maybe due to the injury he received helping link he had to retire from being a warrior or at least cut down the action. While the wound definitely wasn’t life threatening and we see him fine later on it might still have left some permanent damage, maybe he even have trouble moving that leg and might have trouble carrying things with that talon. He was after all the character that got the most major injury out of the helping characters, Sidon and Riju were fine and yunobu got a bump on the head from us shooting him from a canon repeatedly, Teba was the only casualty in our pursuit of the beasts. I’d love to see him in action though because we barely saw him in Botw.

I’m thinking the most likely thing is that Teba is not necessarily dead, but missing. The best reason Tulin could have to help you on your journey is to find/save his own father. And this could still coincide with Teba being the Chief. Perhaps the reason these Rito ships are searching through this storm is to find their new chief who has been lost in the storm.

Yunobo isn't in there either, he's a pretty distinct looking Goron and the Goron we did see in the trailer definitely isn't him. We can speculate about the Boulder Breaker, but it's just that, speculation. Tulin has the Great Eagle Bow, so there's no reason to think a new character couldn't have the Boulder Breaker.

Personally I'm more worried about Yunobo because they don't show him, only the Boulder braker and they don't show more of the goron champion but they do for all the others. I think Teba is probably simply retired due to his injury from Vah Medoh, but I'm afraid something worse happened to yunobo or the gorons as a whole, since Deadmountain is spewing malice and Ganondorf seems to have hold of the red (possibly fire) tear. But if anything happened to either Teba or Yunobo I am going to EXPLODE (and cry a lot)

what if Teba isn't dead offscreen, but he makes a sacrifice or ends up dying right before the bossfight ending cutscene ends, so we have this tearjerking scene of Teba allowing Tulin to use the Great Eagle Bow and follow in the footsteps of not only his father, but Revali himself? The shot of the "real living Zonai" actually shows an out of focus Tulin and Teba. Tulin on the left (identifiable because of the structure of the Swallow Bow and the vibrant green Tear on the left side of his belt), and Teba (Same coloration feathers and possibly his beak, signature yellow of a Rito weapon too).

Man I really hate how they benched Teba and possibly Yunobo. AoC really made me appreciate Teba as a character, if they killed him off or had Tulin steal his spot as Revali's successor, I'd be really upset. Felt too perfect in AoC when the OG Champions were showing the new Champions the ropes only for two of them to be benched. Now hopefully they're just baiting us and maybe Teba and Yunobo will need to be rescued and perhaps will still be relevant somehow. Would much prefer that than him retiring.

I think you've probably nailed it with what happened with Teba. I like the idea of him becoming the new chief of the village. It's surprising to me how many people haven't realized that this is Tulin and not Teba. I know Teba was a bit bland as a character in BotW, but his child was on camera. Nintendo has been keeping the Goron champion secret from us and keeping his image out of the trailer. And death mountain has been spewing out Malice in all the trailers. Also there were many lava dungeon scenes shown in the newest trailer meaning that shit is going down in death mountain. There is also a scene where Link seems to be fighting a Goron as some sort of trial? There were Goron's watching and most people assumed the creature rolling at Link is a new enemy but I believe it's a Goron. I feel like the Goron race is going to have a MASSIVE impact on tears of the kingdom's story. Also I really wanna see a Yunubo glow up PLEASE NINTENDO

i dont know how likely it is, but i like the theory that teba has lost faith in link because in his view link abandoned hyrule when ganon started to rise (this is assuming link was put to sleep again for a while on the sky islands) and now teba refuses to work with him because he sees link as a traitor or a coward

I did the target shooting mini-game where you show Tulin how to shoot at the flight range enough times that I instantly recognized Tulin when he appeared lol, instantly teared up, my boy is all grown up now

It seems that each champion will go through some growth over their quests. Sidon will become the new Zora King, Tulin is gifted the Great Eagle Bow for his bravery, Riju will unlock her Gerudo Chief Lightning powers, and maybe Yunobo will be considered a great hero and get his face carved on the mountain in Goron City. But I just hope that they can still journey with Link after completing their missions.

I too think that it’s likely that Teba may have become the new Rito chief after Kaneli. It would allow Link to still interact with him while keeping him away from combat situations - after all, him becoming the new chief would mean that he has to put the well-being of the Rito over his own needs and wants, so he couldn’t just go and recklessly put himself in danger when he’s needed the most. I’ve also seeing people bringing up the possibility that he and Saki may have had another chick, so add that to list of possibilities why he might be more hesitant to leave the Rito Village. While I do think that Teba dying is extremely unlikely, I wouldn’t put the idea of TotK dropping a bridge on Teba completely out the table. When compared to the other new champions, Teba is the most complete character in a sense that there’s not much room for him to grow. If some pre-established major character is going to die, he’s really the only one the writers could kill off without there being many loose ends regarding his character - Zelda, Riju, Sidon and Yunobo aren’t anywhere as near as being ‘complete’ as Teba is, so there’s much more writers could do with them when compared to him. The risk of them upsetting shitton of people by killing Teba is still pretty high since people aren’t going to accept any more champions dying unless it’s a tearjerker to end all tearjerkers, so playing it safe is probably the better option. Though TotK has already shown that it’s willing to take risks so who really knows what’s the case here.

I honestly think it would have been better if Tulin had been "grounded" and told to stay in the village with the other kids, but sneaks out to help Link anyway, against Teba's wishes. As it stands, it feels kind of silly that these other adult Rito knowingly send their chief's 12(?)-year-old son out to save the village. Like, when Harth showed up, I really thought Tulin was gonna be in trouble lol.

Honestly I think it’s a combination between two things. I think Teba became the elder and when the events started he was kidnapped by monsters, so relatively without permission Tulin goes and tries to find his father but he luckily stumbles upon Link during his journey, and the two knowing each other and Links good help nature, team up to go find Teba and bring him home.

I actually personally like Tulin a lot more as a potential companion and champion. A young plucky character that already admired Link and now gets to fight alongside him seems like a great dynamic, whilst it feels like it'd be hard to get more out of Teba's reluctant doing the right thing from the first game. Also, an I am clutching onto this idea for dear life, it seems Yunobo might not be the Goron champion we'll be working with (or if he is, he's gotten a major glow up), since Official Art for Tulin, Riju, and Sidon were all put out, but nothing in the way of Gorons. It feels very intentional that we were not shown this game's goron champion, which seems meaningless if they're just gonna use Yunobo for that anyways.

While Age of Calamity’s non canonicity is still a hill I’m willing to die on, I will say the game absolutely foreshadows parts of ToTK. The fact that they had had to cast a Voice actor for Tulin was evidence enough that he was gonna play a bigger role in ToTK.

I think the way this questline will go is that Tulin will try to enter the giant tornado before the events of the game start, and won’t come back, leading Teba to ask Link to go and save Tulin before he gets hurt. Maybe Teba can’t go, because he already tried to enter the dungeon but got injured again and has to recover. However, I also like the alternative mentioned in this video, where Teba becomes chieftain and Tulin sneaks in after Link. One way or another, I don’t think Tulin is going to have permission from Teba to go into the dungeon; that doesn’t seem like the kinda dad Teba is lol. And Tulin’s characterization in BotW definitely leads me to believe that he’s definitely the sneaking-in-on-his-own type.

Teba is likely out of commission. It seems pretty clear from the trailer that there is a war going on on the surface and by the time Link makes it to Rito village, he’s been injured so Tulin pulls a Mulan and helps his hero role model.

K I haven’t seen the full vid yet, but it’s pretty obvious that ganondorf kills off one figure head for each race, he obviously kills king dorephan, he was in the art book plus Sidon was wearing the zoras king crown in the climax’s applying his dad died, I will also assume that ganon killed of rijus bodyguard forget her name, she most likely dies while protecting riju. My other two predictions is that ganon also kills the ganon elder AND he kills teba, I guess they killed off teba because tbh he was the only significant rito alive in botw, but hey that’s just a theory A GAME THEORY

There's no way they killed off Teba or Yunobo when there's still a ton that can be done with their characters. There's some kind of a story with whatever is happening on Death Mountain and the Gorons, and I assume Teba also has something interesting going on that is keeping him occupied. But I like Tulin a lot so I'm excited to see him growing up and following the footsteps of the heroes he looks up to.
