In this lecture, Dr. Steve Austin explains his views on the location of the Flood/Post-Flood Boundary in the rock record. If you like this technical lecture from the 2017 IGH Conference, you can get it and over 70 more at: bit.ly/BIGH-1
Dr. Austin is a field research geologist who has done research on six of the seven continents of the world. His research has taken him by helicopter into the crater on Mount St. Helens, by bush plane onto glaciers in Alaska, by raft through the Grand Canyon, on horseback into the high Sierra, by elevator into the world’s deepest coal mines, by SCUBA onto the Great Barrier Reef, by rail into Korean backcountry, by foot onto barren plateaus of southern Argentina, and by four-wheel drive into remote desert areas of Israel, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Dr. Austin received his PhD from Pennsylvania State University in sedimentary geology.

Can one imagine what it was like to be in the ark during the flood . GOD must have held Noah in his right hand.

I always wondered. We find all the critters but what about the bones of the people that lived pre flood .?

Those are probably somewhere on the bottem of the sea. Humans cant move that fast and were probably drowned early in the flood since they couldnt get to higher ground in time like the bigger dinosaurs.

Would it be the case that because Noah had a couple birds go out to check and see if the flood waters had receded and once it had the bird brought back a branch from a tree. Would this mean that God simply created all the trees and plants in one day just like back in the creation days?

Huge Yellowstone volcano = no native people in that area. They would all have migrated in later. This goes the “indigenous people” theory as well.

I would be interested in also hearing Dr. Austins' opinion on Egypt and other desserts of the world during and post flood.

Yellowstone appears to have erupted several times while the continental mass was moving over a hot spot approximating the snake river plain. If the continent's were moving during the flood then some of this lava should be pillowed. But as far as I have read, and heard, it's all surface. A difficulty that needs addressing. Also there needs to be work on the means of formation for columnar basalt in reference to the flood.

Another comment in regards to the re-establishment of flora surrounding the blast zone of Mount St. Helens. The area affected by the blast in 1980 was relatively small compared to say the area of the state of Washington. It would be expected that plants would re-seed from the living specimens in the surrounding area(s). After the alleged flood of Noah where would there be live plants capable of re-establishing flora? And after a year under salt water the ground would be salted such that most terrestrial plants would not be capable of germination. Any plants that were still rotted would be dead, having stood for such a long time in salt water.

If I understand Dr.Austin correctly he is assigning the rocks of the Grand Canyon and Palo Duro Canyon as flood deposits. In the subsurface in the US (and around the world in places) in time equivalent rocks to the GC and PDC there are thick units of evaporites of various salts and gypsum/anhydrite. Evaporites, as the name implies, are sedimentary rocks formed by the evaporation of water leaving behind the dissolved salts. Some, such as carnality and sylvite, are deliquescent which means that f exposed to humid air they tend to dissolve. I do not believe any of these evaporitic units would have formed during a world-wide flood. I am of the opinion that there was NOT a world-wide flood but rather a localized flood in the Middle East and this spawned the legend of a flood which to those people seemed to be world-wide. For them their small portion of the ME was all there was to the world. They had no knowledge of North or South America and maybe not even much of Europe or far east Asia.

I went to the grand canyon myself, saw footprints of what was an ancestor of the dinosaurs. This was explained to me as evidence that "the animal was swept away in the flood". Interestingly enough there actually is a "flood" in the grand canyon but not the one you want to hear. There was a warm shallow sea in that area during that time, which is why you can find deposits of a coral reef there. Also you can veryyyyy clearly see that there is no "flood" there in the rock, which is preserved with extremely "unsorted" grains. That means many rocks, of many different sizes being put in the same deposit. So imagine any extremely powerful flood - wouldnt it carry bigger rocks with it, as well as smaller ones, and some in between? They would generally be deposited together in a flood, also destroying layers of history (and especially footprints from animals). We don't see much evidence for that in the grand canyon, as all of its rocks predate what I believe that most following this point of view would believe them to be dated to. I don't mean to attack your beliefs, or your religion, but I do wish to at least share what I can with the evidence that I have, that I can prove through several types of evidence, from many different sources.
