@@fenixchief7 CURRENT skyrim. With all the enhanced graphics, but no better, because I can't afford next gen tech and I still wanna play it. Xbox one level graphics, with enhanced options for series X. But it probably won't happen. The best thing that could come out of it wouldn't be better graphics, though. It'd be more frequent roving enemies. Walk around the imperial city and you encounter 2 bandits... And one wolf. With HOURS in between. In Skyrim, encounters are both more frequent AND more numerous... But so much less fun. They oversimplified so much. In Oblivion, I played a Stealth Archer/ Swordsman build. In Skyrim, I tried the same, and got bored very quickly. And skyrims Dark Brotherhood questline was GARBAGE, AND too short. Oblivion just had more work put into it's story and quests, while Skyrim seemed more focused on graphics and Accessibility. Don't get me wrong, Skyrim IS enjoyable to a point... But I 100%ed Oblivion, including DLC... But Skyrim? Nah. I get too bored. Which is why 4 is better than 5, in my opinion.

@@matthewrowlett1564 as for the rest I pretty much agree. I haven't played Skyrim in 5 years and have played Morrowind and Oblivion multiple times since. Both superior games in there own way, whereas Skyrim has its own strengths but like you said, it's just boring now. Honestly, if they found a way to smash the best parts of all 3 games into 6 they will have redeemed themselves. Cyrodil and Vvardenfell absolutely feel empty compared to Skyrim. I believe they put more than double the NPCs than both the previous games combined. This is just conjecture, but I believe this was deliberate. Cyrodil being so lush and peaceful was to directly contrast the hellscape of oblivion. To highlight exactly what you're fighting for. More than once I just ran for my life, chased by a horde of enemies, dodging sword and spell all the way to the sigil keep. Then you pop out back into safety with the calming music. Skyrim, being in a state of open civil war and in the midst of its own apocalypse taking place in its own plane of existence makes more sense for danger to be lurking literally everywhere. I guess what I mean to say is that I understand your point about the enemy density in Oblivion but to me its just a part of that games overall feel. Such a chill game until you decide you want a fight, whereas Skyrim is balls out from the get go.

@@fenixchief7 but then it wouldn't look like Elder Scrolls. It'd look like fallout. Less realism, more complete insanity. Do I want a more complex character creator? Yes, but that's what 6 is for (hopefully). For a remake of a 360 game, I'd be fine with upscaled 360 graphics... Initially, skyrims graphics weren't a huge step up from oblivion... So it wouldn't be as difficult as the KZbinr implies in this video to do the same with oblivion, the issue isn't the graphics. It's the physics. That's why the modders working on the Skyblivion mod can release screenshots of their project, but no gameplay. They are having problems with reprogramming the physics, such as collisions, movement, combat, the magic system, and levelling... Hell. Forget remakes, I'd be fine with a version of the game I can play on Xbox one without needing an internet connection to install the game. But we all know THATS never gonna happen. But graphics aren't important to me. My argonians and Orcs don't have to look realistic, they just have to look like Argonians and Orcs. Here's hoping 6 DOSEN'T suck, fallout 76 style.

Honestly, with how far the team at Skyblivion has gotten on their project and since Bethesda have endorsed it, it might be that they don’t want to step on the toes of those working on by releasing their own remaster. As far as the Pokémon models you brought up, I think there is some confusion. People weren’t mad that the models hadn’t been remade, they were mad that Game Freak claimed they had to remake every Pokémon model as an excuse for why they couldn’t put the entire Pokédex into Sword and Shield. So when it turned out they had just reused the 3DS models, players were mad that they lied and that they still weren’t going to include every single Pokémon.

Good video. Just a minor error. In the animation segment you said "It would be hard for the animators to tell where the knee begins" this is actually not a concern at all for them. Animators use a skeleton to animate meaning that certan bones are mapped to influence certan vertecies. The only department that would have a issue with giant polygon models would be the rigger as they are the person responsible of building the skeleton
@ztoogemcducc63602 жыл бұрын
I'm a 3d animator, and having a good model is important to animation. We have to look at the model when we animate it. We aren't just animating the skeleton. A large poly model will also slow down your animation software. So it is absolutely in the best interest of the animators to be working with a good model. If you kust animate the skeleton without looking at the model things like fingers, knees, elbows, and self collisions will happen a lot because you can't see the full mass of what you're working with. Animators are often given very low poly proxy models they can switch to if things get slow but that's only good for large sweeping movements. Once you need fidelity in things like the fingers, face, joint rotation etc, those go out the window.

The issue with the textures stretching on the models wouldn't really be solved by adjusting the textures. The problem is with the models themselves. You'd need to go back at every model in the game and adjust the projection mapping of the problematic polygons that cause the stretching. Which is easier to do than, say, modifying a JPEG file to compensate for stretching... ESPECIALLY if the texture is being reused for other models (which is more likely ~ to save GPU memory). You'd probably want to add a few more polygons to enabled better texture tiling. On the animation front, the more polygons you have on a character, not only is it a bit more taxing on the GPU to render these polygons but it's actually WAY more CPU-intensive and that's because the CPU is in charge of computing which vertex on a model is being moved by a specific bone in a character rig; bending the geometry that the GPU, then, draws. Typically in games, the main character (ie: the player) has a higher polygon count than other characters because it's okay to have one expensive character on screen... but the thing with the Elder Scrolls is that the character body for the player is the same as the NPCs so you need to keep that low-res or else your CPU will be a huge bottleneck. An Oblivion re-master could probably get away by reusing Skyrim character models... but you'd need to refactor all the clothing because Skyrim handles clothing differently. So it's probably better to keep the body the same (Oblivion) and just replace the faces... and the textures of those faces are probably included with the body so you'd need to make sure the new face textures fit within the allocated texture real estate of the old faces. So: - Adjust all of the models that have stretching. - Rework all of the textures to take advantage of a new rendering engine (specular maps, transparencies, etc). Going from a "standard" renderer to a PBR renderer without changing the materials does not look good. - Redo the faces. ... and then troubleshoot all of the scripting errors that would inevitably exist by importing old data into an updated engine that is most likely not designed to be backwards compatible.

Have played Morrowind and quite enjoyed it and found its dated aspects quite charming. Plus it has the best Main Storyline of ES 3,4,and 5. The Traitorous Tribunal and their fall into hubris, the concept of CHIM, Dagoth Ur's ascension to maniacal Godhood. The lessons of Vivec and the rewriting of history by declaring the "Good Daedra" as the imperfect "Anticipations". Azura prophecy of doom for the Living God's. Sheogorath's great stone hurled at City Vivec that is halted mere moments from impact, only to be left suspended above the City as a constant threat lest the Dunmers love for The Three wanes. ....... However Oblivion is still my absolute favorite ES Title. Plus it has the best soundtrack!

On the subject of injecting a game into a sequal it's worth mentioning that a group of people did this for Might & Magic 6, 7, and 8 by merging 6 and 7 into 8 and you can use all classes from all titles, choose which map (game) you want to start in and then further into it have the option of going into a portal and starting in one of the other maps (games) keeping your levels, items, skills etc. It's been fully playable for a few years now and is still being updated. Surprisingly enough you only need to install Might & Magic 8 and then merge 1-2 files from the site and you're set to go.

TBH i think the best thing that Bethesda should and could do, is support the Skyblivion and Skywind teams, give them a helping hand. Cus quite frankly, they are doing such a WONDERFUL job making all the assets from scratch and re building these golden games already, to the point if they just help fund it, they dont need to spend the man hours on it
@chrisdonnell72002 жыл бұрын
I'd hate to see Bethesda get too involved honestly. The moment it crosses the line from a fan project to an official release, you suddenly get back to the issues studios always bring - timelines, investors, crunch, etc. Some *unconditional* support would be appreciated but if they're looking for any return on investment, that's a disaster for the quality of the project.
@treeaboo Жыл бұрын
Generally a bad idea, it's not a good play for the health of those projects to get Bethesda and the official legal and regulatory factors that they fundamentally have to bring with them involved, Bethesda currently does the best thing for them which is giving them their unofficial (official but off the books) blessing to do their projects without legal interference to protect copyright/intellectual property. In a similar vein the Skyrim (Oblivion, Morrowind, Fo3, FNV, Fo4) Script Extenders are written by community members who have a private agreement with Bethesda wherein Bethesda gives them a hook into the backdoor code of the Skyrim engine to modify data at runtime before its closed shut (to simplify it), and Bethesda warns them in advance of updates that'll break SKSE until the team can fix it. I'd say Bethesda generally has about the right amount of involvement within the modding community atm, they give the tools it needs and let it do its thing without a heavy hand. The only ways their involvement could be better, at least with Skyrim specifically, would've been releasing the Dev version of the CK that allowed the creation of new actor bases and perk trees directly, but those are rather niche areas.

the other problem with remastering such old games is that due to the success and quality of resident evil remakes. the fans would in my mind be expecting a similar level of quality and polish from Bethesda. something that would not only mean upgrading the graphics but also fighting animations and the responsiveness like we have in Skyrim being implemented in oblivion or Morrowind, Bethesda would also have to, in my mind fix, the leveling system so the perk points that was used to level your character attributes where no longer tied to how may skills you used but rather they where in a fixed amount like 1 perk = +2/3 in your standard attribute but in the primary attribute would instead give a +5 increase. since I feel that many modern gamers that started with skyrim will have a hard time getting into the vanilla oblivion leveling system.

A big thing is simply the fact that Skyrim's "remakes" are basically just a port with some bonuses here and there. The Switch version got some exclusive items, the Special Edition was just an engine memory upgrade and all the DLC bundled together, and the Anniversary edition was just some new features like fishing plus all the Creation Club items. People seriously overblow how much time/money/effort was spent on the Skyrim rereleases, they're more just, like, the New Game + version of basic rereleases.

So, Sonic Mania was originally just a fan project, but Sega outright just endorsed it and made it an official release. Bethesda could do the same for Skyblivion and Skywind. It might be some legal issue why fan projects aren't regularly made into official content endorsed by Bethesda, but I feel like bethesda would both earn a lot of good will as well as earn a lot of money if they simply took the finished Skyblivion/Skywind mod projects and packaged them up as actual games. I think a lot of game studios should do this with fan projects instead of shutting them down and pissing everyone off. Again, there might be labor issues, credit issues, legal issues, and monetary issues with basically releasing something for which you didn't pay the for any of the labor involved. They could compensate the team but then who would be compensated? Fan projects can have tons of anonymous contributors and dividing up the spoils could get dicey. It'd also set up an expectation for future projects and start a wild west cutthroat market of game studios exploiting fan projects and paying pennies to "make games" by simply taking fan work instead of paying employees salaries. However, I think it could ultimately work if they wanted to do it. "Crowd sourced" game development by fans would be a pretty cool thing considering how well made mods are for Bethesda games. Perhaps they could do it via freelance work. Basically, it could be the "creation club" but more of how they did the anniversary edition. They could take a bunch of submissions of various mods, build a stable list of the best mods available, reward the modders, and then sell it as a DLC or standalone expansion like a complete overhaul.

@jty96312 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Redguard sounds more interesting. I've never played it and I like Morrowind just the way it is personally, it's my favorite RPG game of all time
@treeaboo Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, Redguard is by far the best option for a total remake, especially considering that Bethesda is aware that Skywind and Skyblivion exist, so a remake of Morrowind or Oblivion is largely pointless. As well as the fact that it's a different type of game from the mainline series, being an Action RPG with a predefined protagonist rather than the player character of the other games, which just lends itself better to being an extra game for them to release between the creation of the games in their mainline series. Considering how it's both a region that hasn't been explored in the major 3 main series games, along with Redguard having lots of great worldbuilding and unique elements (the Sload, the Dragon Nafaalilargus loyal to Tiber Septim, Dwemer Airships, S'rathra speaking the native Khajiiti language of Ta'agra, etc) as well as a number of noteworthy and memorable characters. Not to mention Cyrus himself is an interesting figure, with a whole history outside of the game itself and his personality is the sort that'd be popular even with a modern audience. It's also interesting in that unlike the other games it actively shows the Septim Empire's imperialism from the perspective of those fighting against it as it overthrows their existing rulership, which for people who've only played Oblivion and Skyrim might be an interesting perspective to see (the Stormcloak rebellion was an internal conflict, not the Empire being Imperialist, as the Empire was founded largely by the Nords of Skyrim). Not to mention the intro is so thematic. One thing for a Redguard remake, they have to use the same voice actor (Michael Mack) for Cyrus, he's the perfect fit. Considering that Michael Mack appears to voice at least one character in Starfield it's clear they still have contact with him, they also released the Dead Man's Dread Creation for Skyrim SE/AE which was one of the Bethesda created Creation Club mods, so they've not completely forgotten about it. Maybe, just maybe, one day we'll get a Redguard remake. We can only hope.

Here's a personal opinion. Remasters are great. Our systems keep evolving and times are tough. You feel nostalgic. You want to run Jagged Alliance (just an example) Holy hell it's hard on a windows 10 computer. You have to spend hours, HOURS just figuring out compatibility modes and fan made patches. Sometimes the fun is killed that way. That being said I don't require much *graphical* improvements on any remaster. The original graphics are part of the feel and changing them too much kinda kills the mood as well. Remasters are good for one single purpose, preservation. To this date there's thousands of games completely forgotten because there's just no way to run them on a modern system. Modern laptops don't even have a disc/cd slot so those old CD games on your shelf over there, well they are just scenery. It's a darn shame, I remember as a kid loving two games specifically "POD gold" and "Corsairs". The hassle to get them to work keeps me from reliving those moments.
