Ive always respected your thoughts and opinions an for the most part I’d agree with whatever your putting out there but I’d strongly disagree with this one. You’re a huge influencer an I feel you may have jus misled a lot of people. I have a 24 300xcw that I’ve put 15 hours on in past few weeks, prior I had 21 300xcw that I put 160 hours on. In comparison the 24 doesn’t have the lil snap you get from previous gen when the pv would open, “coming up on the pipe”. 24 has smoother transition which tends to work better for riding enduro/hard-enduro, what the bike was purposely built to do. I’ve now rode the 24 in several different settings slow/technical single, 2-track, and a xc race. The engine definitely isn’t down on power, it makes considerably more bottom end it’ll keep pulling where I’d be downshifting the tpi which had a head, tune, and injector relocate. The 24 keeps pulling up top, an never seems to flatten out. It doesn’t rev as fast as the xc, thank goodness but these are 2 different machines built for different disciplines. Yes it’s the first time there’s been any significant difference in the xc an xcw engine and in my opinion they finally got it right, but lacking power? Jus keep twisting if u want more, if you find yourself wanting to constantly blow the back wheel off chances are you’re not an enduro rider.

This comment needs to be up higher. Thanks for your insight! I haven't ridden a '24, but I find that even the relative smoothness/predictability of the TPI 300's vs. some of the carb-ed brethren is a major advantage in actual racing and technical terrain. Some of the carb bikes feel faster, and that two stroke "hit" and "snap" is sure a ton of fun... but it makes the bike wear you out faster and is harder to ride overall, in my opinion.

Everyone seems to refer to hard enduro nowadays when they talk of enduro. Enduro is not just crawling and lugging your bike through super technical terrain the whole time.

Man, I don’t see what the problem is. Ktm can’t make 20 different 300 2 strokes for 20 different power variations. Do you want a hot and aggressive bike, then get the XC. do you want a smooth tractable bike, then get the Xcw. I’m grateful they finally made a big difference on power and chassis between the xc/xcw. Because the older TPI Xc and Xcw were more alike then they were different, especially in the power department. I for one and very happy that Xcw TBI does not have the power of XC. Because the XC TBI while great for cross country, was very hard to ride hard Enduro and similar slippery traction situations, you either couldn’t lug low enough or it would light on fire spinning the tire. Very little middle area for modulation. having more tractability is massively needed on the Xcw. Now, do you want that cross country frame to come with a little less power? Or the xcw to have a little more power? Don’t complain to Ktm that they didn’t make 20 different bike variations for your specific one off taste, but rather support the aftermarket that gives you the power to fine-tune the bike to how you like it. The aftermarket support is what makes our off-road community so great. And Ktm constantly updating and improving the bikes and offering new variations is what keeps our Offroad sport alive, and all of us in business…. have you seen a KZbin channel thriving on the newest most recent Suzuki bold new graphics?

I agree with you but this bike is just too slow for what it is meant for. I thought it was going to be a little less power than the XC's but this bike is just too far off what it is suppose to be. I am sure KTM will come out with a new map update after all the complaints come in.

@@ShareefTraish-dm5wf I guess it really depends on who you are and what your after. As a Bike rental company, that rents to everyone from all over, you’d be surprised that when all the European pros come over and rent bikes for hard enduro races, they bring custom parts to make the bikes hit as soft as possible. For the TPI They bring low compression head, green spring and a soft tune to take ALL the hit away and a 12/51 tooth setup to ride in high gears at low rpm to manage slip even further. And the tpi is soft already to begin with in stock form. And then when I rent to American west coast riders, they want the bike to be red spring, high compression head, and short twist cam throttle to make it a fire breathing drag bike for hare scrambles. Which in essence is the Xcw tbi for hard enduro, soft and manageable and the xc tbi, Rip your arm sockets out, for hare scramble, desert fast riders. There’s a big market for soft hitting bikes and big market for hard hitting bikes Now theses still people that want a hard enduro platform, but with a cross country power hitting motor, and you can do that with aftermarket tools

Balanced crank to cut down on vibration is great but the W is lacking the hard hitting low down power band! I miss the older days when you could install enduro lights on front+a rear brake light through the hydraulic rear brake. It kind of seems that you can either but a W model or go with the XC model & pay out ur aS$ for a front enduro light! I’d disagree, it has plenty of power if you know how to use it, I’d say a bit of skill can get you killed on this bike if you drop the clutch to hard, this bike is meant to have 450 lug in a smooth 2T, Id say this bike also would come off as low power on easy flat smooth trails, get on some tough enduro trails and this is the best bike ever

I bought one of the new xcw 300tbi bikes and I have some of his same reactions. I feel like it could’ve had a touch more power in the mid to top end although it does feel really good in the low. I know these bikes have different port timing compared to their desert and Motocross counterparts. I belive this will end up being your biggest gain in terms of power. Switching to a sx/xc bore and getting a tune. Another thing I’ve noticed about the new xcw is the weight of the front end which is super helpful in technical sections but makes it unstable at speeds above 55 and terribly hard to Wheely in 4th-6th gear if you aren’t standing. This also might just be because I don’t have my sag at the correct height and it’s taking my ass end up. One other thought I’ve noticed that this pds suspension is not very good off-road when exceeding 25mph. I’ve ridden my dads 2005 crf450f and the rear suspension is so much more trackable at high speeds when you’re racing across rocky or even loose dirt. The pds shock does great with logs and hill traction but forget mobbing along a 50” trail on the pipe. It simply doesn’t have the stability and you can’t tell where that rear tire is. This has led me to already crash the bike while riding through relatively soft desert sand and sage brush. And ultimately tear my mcl. I still love the bike and have ideas on how I’m gonna fix what I don’t like. Like bar risers and lower pegs, a TUbliss rear tire, a fatty pipe and dropping the rear/moving the forks down in the triple clamp. I would recommend the bike if you like slow technical riding through rocks and trees but if you’re looking for a fun bike to blast through the desert on or a bike that can take a good jump. I would probably go with the xc.

Check your map switch plug is not in the low map position from the dealer. More power is available if it has been reversed from new and left unconnected. Otherwise try a map switch on your bike to be sure that you are judging it fairly. Lastly there are many hidden maps inside the ECU just waiting to be selected by a KTM race tuner or KTM dealer. I accidently selected one on my 2020 300TPI and found I needed an A grade racing licence to use it fully. Eventually I went back to Std mapping but missed the wild thing feelings...

Interesting video. Rode a '23 XC-W back to back with my '18 XC, which has a Lectron, V4 reeds and an S3 head on it with the middle insert. My bike admittedly is a kick in the pants off the bottom, which I like, as in my world 2Ts are supposed to be rowdy! Plus I live in Colorado and higher compression is almost mandatory when riding in the high country. The TBI felt like the TPI bikes I've ridden, couldn't really tell the difference to be honest. Nothing wrong with it, the power was smooth and throttle input to rear wheel output was quite linear for a 2T. The new TBI was not "slow" by any means. Give it the beans and it will rip your arms off, ya just gotta feed it a few more "beans" than my older '18 model, which as I mentioned, does have a head on it. I wouldn't say this is a "fault" it is more of a "trait", one that could be quite useful in the really gnarly stuff, where my snarly XC can be a little bit of a handful. I suspect a TBI with a head on it would be very close to perfect for gnarly riding in CO, with perhaps more snap but not as aggressive as my carb'd '18. I did love the new XC-W suspension right out of the box as it felt more accurate and supportive and better than older XC-W's I've ridden, and the steering/handling felt very sharp at my B rider sporty but I don't wanna crash someone else's shiny new bike riding speed. For my admittedly not top flight but not pokey slow riding purposes, I think I would be quite happy with the suspension as delivered. It was a relatively short ride, but the handling on the new bikes is notably tighter and sharper than my old '18, but not sell the '18, buy a new bike and incur the stiff costs associated with doing that sharper... Gonna keep rocking my '18 as it runs awesome and I don't feel like I'm missing anything in the motor department compared to the new bikes. I like the bottom end rip, even though it can potentially bite me in the ass once in awhile. Call me old school, but that is simply life while astride a high performance 2T 😆

I am glad that they are mellowing out the engine to make it linear and with lots of low end. Good job KTM, that’s what an enduro bike should have! Small throttle position changes should result in incremental increases in engine ramping up. As far as chassis and suspension being more for high speed stuff. That doesn’t align with making the bike an enduro machine for hard obstacles… I think that is because enduro riders still enjoy flying through some single track and hitting things at speed in between the obstacles To me the xc-w should be set up for hard obstacles and still be usable for single track. I think this configuration is the best at that of any bike I’ve ever seen. Sounds like it’s linear and predictable with excellent use of mid stroke! That’s where we want it! I want this bike bad

There is the possibility that your bike isn't running properly. There seems to be alot of manufacturing variation like there was with TPi's. Also you can use the XC head insert.

The old switch you could put on the older TPI 's was not a MAP switch but was a timing switch (2 position). Since it is an electronic controlled power valve you can no longer adjust it. I like being able to adjust the PV on my 2022 300 XC for different situations, like more hit or smoother power in 5 seconds. Seems 100% of reviewers over the years forgot to mention they could adjust the PV with the manual adjustable PV's. Would be cool if there was a switch to select a few different PV adjustments.

Try this Save Money - On ALL New KTMS my buddies and I always Fully Back Out All Compression adjusters Front / Rear. Set All Front / Rear Rebound Clickers to the Middle. Find a High Speed place to ride - Spend a Full Day At High Speed having fun using Only Rebound to Trim for best feel. This will Speed Up breaking IN the suspension - IF your spring is matched to your weight Set Free-sag lower to 1 3/4" free sag - I know guys who run 2 inches on PDS for Best Traction - The bike will Track like a Goat in Technical and High Speed Handling will be Real Good (Like older KTMs)- - ->PDS shocks work best with Lower Free Sag than linkage systems - - Engine Down on Power ? Here's where you pay a Little Money - Send your CDI to Twisted Development for remapping power valve timing. They can enrich or Lean fuel anywhere needed as well. You can have Both Worlds - Slow in Technical and Raging XC at warp speed - CHEERS

Awesome Review! So is this bike where there’s calmer power, but holds the power very well at RPM? Could be the reason for stiffer suspension being able to handle harder hits at faster speeds?

This is the 1st time I've ever heard of anybody complaining about the power of the brand new 24 300 XCW . I would change the power valve timing so it opens up faster, so it gives you more power off the low end , mid & Top end, Kind of like the old days when we put the red power valve spring in . Look in your owners. manual & see how how to set your power valve mode electronically. Good luck! 👍

I own a 22' carb bike (Rieju 300 MR pro) and love it (even if I have spent a ton of hours tuning the carb to be acceptable). But to be honest what I'm looking for on a KTM now is a soft power delivery because riding in mud ou extrem conditions most of the time. I'm ok with a soft power because if you trust what Bolt is saying "suspensions soft, mousses soft, engine soft" everything soft. If you ride hours a day you need soft things to manage the bike. I don't want to undergo my enduro bike when I ride it. So for me it's a good thing. And as you said there are many solutions to tune it harder for those who want it. 😊

put a ngk bpr7eix iridium or the equivalent of the heat range that comes in it. also put the red spring in the power valve with a quick hand adjuster so you can dial it back on a moment notice if you need to. those 2 thing really will help wake it up a lot..

Kyle - the EXC-W is made for Enduro and Extreme Enduro - the cylinder timing and compression ratio is totally different and made for most low end torque and traction for difficult terrain - the Factory Extreme Enduro guys run the same setups like the EXC-W. If you want a more Motocross or XC oriented bike the XC is the better choice for you.

Because when it did have the same mapping as the XC.......everyone complained that the bike was too aggresive in the gnarly terrain and it was unusable power. I have a 24 300 XC-W. I completely get what you're saying. I'm coming off of a 17 300 XC and a 23 350 XC. This motor is MUCH more mellow and def doesn't give you the hit that the XC's (or SX's for that matter do), but to say that it's slower.....a bit of a reach. Just doesn't "deliver" the power quite the same. It would be nice if KTM did an ECU update where if you were to buy a map switch (which for almost $12k, is kind of bullshit that it doesn't come with one), you'd get the throttle response you get now with the white map and the throttle response of the 23 XC with the green map. I'm sure we'll get there!

Very experienced northeast rider here, sounds perfect…. For my area riding, give me smooth tractable power in a light weight bike and you hit a home run. On suspension, do you mean quicker pace or heavier rider ? Alway surprised me how bikes are setup for 175lb riders. After rider and gear, I think it’s a narrow set of riders in that weight range. Bike should be setup for 200lbs
