you will own nothing and forever be unhappy paying for your games via subscription for life. i would rather these gaming companies go completely bankrupt than support that reality.

"You will own nothing and you will like it." I HATE the future that's coming. I want games as a service to disappear completely from the universe and never return.

Thats not the 'future of gaming' Thats the future of AAA gaming. Indie and AA are the true future, and 0DRM launchers like GOG are the even more true future. Did you know, steam is the reason many steam games have DRM? Same thing with the Playstation and Xbox stores! Those same games go to GOG without DRM (some have DRM that number is *very* small)

This is why retro gaming is rising in popularity. The video game industry’s reliance on triple-A titles and pushing towards gamers owning nothing is leaving more and more people jaded. I’m seeing niche retro gaming stores and conventions rising more and more in popularity, and I’m seeing younger gamers getting into older consoles and games, especially when their parents introduce them to it. It’s just as common to see kids playing the OG Super Mario Bros as it is to see them playing Fortnite. And with retro handhelds rising in popularity, the interest in old-school gaming is only going to increase.

Honestly, I've fallen behind so much on AAA titles other than maybe Nintendo's. I keep thinking about how much time and money goes into making these titles, which look beautiful, but they also always have this... same aesthetic to me. Maybe because a lot are made on Unreal, pushing for that "realistic" aesthetic, which is great for artists, but then I think I realize why I loved video games in the first place. Graphics and aesthetics are important and leave a strong impression on me growing up, but if the game is barely anything more than an interactive movie, I might as well just... watch a movie. lol For indie development, I've just found myself getting lost in just really fun games that don't push for several hours of AAA 3D animations and graphics and just focus on fun gameplay mechanics, memorable characters, good music, and other little design choices that enhance the PLAYING experience. Just look at Pizza tower and how much personality it has, and how good it feels to play the game. The over the top, Ed Edd n Eddy like aesthetics don't shout AAA or even AA, but it deserves the praise it gets.

I miss how gaming was between the PS1 to 360 era so much. That is pretty much peak gaming. Modern Console libraries are lacking so much in selection & quality. Devs should never stop taking inspiration from previous game generations. Timeless games don't need hyper realistic graphics. Some of the best games have unique art styles, unique damage effects, smaller more interactive environments, destructible objects, physics like effects or funny cartoonish or absurd type of effects. Anytime i say this someone in the comments always says: "umm well we have indie games" but my point is we need this kind of game selection on CONSOLES as well. PC's have steam & tons of access to a unique library of creative projects. Look at the Game Library of the most recent game consoles? Now look at previous generation consoles? There's no competition. It's not even close to the PS2, N64, PS1, Xbox, GameCube, Dreamcast, 360, PS3, etc. If game devs & game companies realize they are wasting such insane amounts of $ & time to make a game that still runs so terribly (no matter if u have the best PC possible. Which proves it's how these games were made. Not the tech hardware needing a upgrade. I bet we haven't even come close to pushing modern hardware to it's limits yet) *So if devs & companies can see it might not take so long to make a game, not cost so much money to make EACH GAME. Give these things a chance to prove they are capable of being timeless. Hopefully we see a resurgence of pure nerdy passion & focus from devs if they are allowed to just focus on smaller passion projects. Especially with today's technological advancements. Previous games should still inspire newer games no matter how far into the future we go. We shouldn't leave those unique aspects of gaming in the past. Hopefully the struggles of the modern day triple AAA games will organically shift change back towards a better direction. I just worry about the gaming industry being at a certain point where people who are severely out of touch with the core gaming community are the ones that are making the most decisions and forcing devs to do things they completely don't want to do because they know it's a bad idea.. I wish we didn't have so many game companies get bought out. I miss when a game was a project worked on by a group of passionate people who decided they wanted to create this passion project.. Now it's like a popular underground band getting bought out by a mega Corp and now they have full say in the way they play music and when they play music and what they say in their music.. I hope gaming snaps out of this dark chapter and they find their roots they left in the wake of the Y2K era..

Personally, I try not to buy games too often. I've been mostly playing the same games for the past several years: Europa Universalis and Stellaris, with only a minor amount of other gaming. But I hate that music, film, etc are all trying to make us stream content instead of possessing it ourselves.

Sony has done a pretty amazing job (aside from a minor blunder in the PS3 era which the 360 capitalized on) but Microsoft is spending far more now than it ever has, and at a rate that I'm sure is concerning to Sony as we enter whatever this next phase of the industry is. Like I said, though, it'd be foolish to bet against Sony for sure.

The game industry is due for a correction I think we'll see a number of publishers and AAA developers close their doors or sell their rights in a round of consolidation I don't see investors having much more patience for an underperforming industry I think Steam may come out with a premium service with the best aspects of XBox Gamepass and their own innovations How does the XBox, Playstation, and PC gaming appeal to gen alpha and win them over from Nintendo? Only the ones with a good answer will survive long term.

plus it is inevitable that nintendo will close the gap when it comes to power and specs. Graphics are not going to achieve huge jumps anymore as they already reaked a relatively highly immersive peak even with late-gen ps4 games.

There is no way I'm ever streaming games and for those that are playing these live service games I feel that they are really missing out on some great titles by investing so much time into those games, but I understand at the end of the day entertainment is entertainment. What makes them so engaging mostly is the enjoyment with family and friends online being why they are favored. I found the percentage demographic really interesting to learn about here and felt you are on point Sir when it comes to what we can be looking at with the future of gaming.

Id Imagine the xbox follows the same formula as Windows PCs As in the architecture is DX based so most of the games just run the same way most older game may run on modern PCs whit minimal issues. And any real work is required for a handful of games that may have issues. This explains why 360 games just run whit enhancements on modern Xbox consoles as i imagine the architecture hasn't really changed sense the 360 all that much only the hardware got more powerfully. They have bean using an AMD GPU for all of its consoles too only the Xbox OG had a Nvida GPU.

Truthfully, it's not that Nintendo "just makes games", but rather the niche market of children and adults that refuse to grow up who mindlessly consume the next Mario Kart 47 or Super Mario 53 that keep them going. These are the consumers that keep businesses that should have gone bankrupt decades ago in business. Nintendo is a company that has repeatedly acted in bad faith over their entire history of video game developing and publishing. Sure, there are good people working for the company who want to make good games and entertain people, but they're not the ones who generally get to make decisions. If you care about game preservation, then stop playing and definitely stop buying all video games from the big companies. Only buy indie titles without DRM, preferably on physical media that runs out of the box without any need for updates or patches. We collectively need to force them to only release when the game is fully ready and only in such a state as we can come back to it in 20 years and play it the same as the day it's released.
