You are absolutely correct! How can anyone fix their swing if their weight is not correct at the sit up. Your weight and feet position has to be perfect at the start and finish of the swing. If everyone watched this video, they could actually be on the road to be a much better golfer. This is the best video I have ever watched to show the correct weight distribution. Great job!!

I had an issue with getting too much into my toes and actually occasionally shanking it with my irons due to over extension with my arms making the club much closer to the ball. I have been focusing on getting my weight more back towards the heels throughout the swing and it’s been absolutely game changing. I’m hitting the middle of the club face much more often and the “shortening” the club which eliminates dreaded shank.

When you combine this with more hip depth on your swing, it feels effortless.

I had to come back to this video,Andy, following a golf Wedge lesson I had today with one of my club Pro's. For any of my Irons dating back to about 1983. Because of my age and lack of movement, I have my trail foot 5 inches back for an Iron and 2 inches back for a Wood. I have those positions as a former slicer. That works but today's Wedge lesson was mind blowing. My club Pro asked me to reverse the feet position so that my lead foot was 5 inches back with a wider stance, and make sure I am clipping the ground hard as opposed to brushing it an inch past where the ball was. I get the correct contact sound and the correct hight for the shot, and it is straight, but God and my PGA Pro only knows why. I was 3 feet shy of 100 yards with my 43° Pitching Wedge. Which is one club length improvement for me, which is crazy. Thanks for this one, Andy.

Thank you Andy. I was letting my heel get off the ground in my backswing. Was totally blown away when I took a look. Can't go to the range yet, but in my office, I tried a backswing with the thought of planting firmly into the heel of my trail foot and BOOM!...all of the tension disappeared.

Thanks Doug. Hope it does help buddy. There’s nothing wrong with lifting your hell in the backswing if it helps rotation but becareful the weight doesnt fall to your toes

Great video. I got in a bad habit of too much weight in my toes while practicing on a range with the ball always above my feet. I would film myself but couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. My contact was heel side on the clubface even though I tried to rotate more into my lead side. I put more pressure on my heels and all of my strikes were out of the middle and my swing felt much more effortless producing more of a draw.

I've been hitting way on the heel during my swing due to my weight shifting to my toes during the downswing. This caused me to hit shanks with my irons and weak shots with my driver. I put a bandaid on it by setting up with my club not even behind the ball so that when I lean toward the club reaches the middle of the face. Makes it hard to aim. Gonna try these

Its crazy. I was starting with too much weight on my heels. When i finally got my shoulders in front of my toes and stay on them. My consistency improved.

I've stumbled on this by accident. I typically draw the ball and don't need to think about rotation but when i tend to get on my toes i push (by manipulation) or slice and have to physically try rotate to avoid this and get really steep otherwise.

Literally struggling with this a lot trying to move to a more "professional" repeatable swing. My issue isn't on back swing, my weight transfers nicely. My issue is on the downswing, I tend to hip thrust and jump up on my toes, combined with fast arms and I can hit all sorts of shots, but mainly a big hook. Problem is I am a feel golfer and can't find the feel of a proper hip turn and keeping weight in heels. Going to try curling toes up, thank you 🤟🤟🤟

Good one, Andy, thank you. I was searching today to see if you had done anything related to balance. I used to be on my heels a lot until my club pro said it was making me fall off of the shot. I had an interesting incident today related to balance in the lead foot and right foot for a right handed player. I have been taught to have weight on the front foot for wedge and 9 iron shots around the edge of the green. I started to do this for all my irons but it messed up my longer irons. I couldn't hit a 5 iron for a month or so till I corrected it, to have even balance. I was trying to bypass the transfer of weight and got found out. lol

Thanks for these pointers Andy. I have a question, many teaching pros say to load ones weight on the trail heel at the top of the backswing. You make no mention of this so I’m wondering if you could please clarify this for me. Thanks. BTW, saw you on Rick Shiels show and I’ve followed your instructions ever since and have learned a ton. Regards Ken
@andycartergolf3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken, thanks for the message buddy. Im glad the tips are helping. I personally don’t like seeing my players on their trail heel at the top of the swing because its a long way back to the lead side in time for impact. Keeping the weight as close to 50/50 as possible makes a good impact more achievable in my opinion
@kennykoalabear3 жыл бұрын
@@andycartergolf Thanks very much for your explanation and I will take that on board. Had my best round, 7 under my handicap last Friday. Its for players who have their weight in the toes which usually causes poor rotation and often slice shots. The feel of putting the weight back in the heels helps balanced swings

@andycartergolf9 ай бұрын
Yes!
@stewarttrickett3033 Жыл бұрын
I think this is plain bad advice. It's not toe or ball or heel thing. Those aren't the only options. Better is halfway between the ball and heel, or a little towards the heel. That's where your weight should end up at the top of your swing anyway, so no adjustment is needed during the backswing.
@andycartergolf Жыл бұрын
Its a drill 😤🙄 Most slicers I coach (and ive been coaching for 15yrs!) have most weight on their toes during the swing. It prevents turn, rotation, depth. Therefore encourages an out to in path and poor face control …. This is a feel drill to move weight back and feel the increased rotation and depth. But im sure i said that in the video
@stewarttrickett3033 Жыл бұрын
You explicitly said that the weight should be on the balls of the feet, and I've heard many instructors say that. But it's terrible advice. That puts your weight too far forward. Weight should be over the arches, somewhere between the ball and heel, where you're in excellent balance and can rotate easily. I have no problem with you telling people to put their weight on the heels as a training exercise, so they get the feel of keeping their weight off their toes. And in fact some professionals do that in their normal swing. Or at least claim to -- I think they they just favor weight TOWARDS the heel.
