This is the #1 golf swing key that gets you playing great golf. Keep your weight forward in the golf swing and don't shift it back. When you do this, ball striking is consistent and powerful. Many golfers are told to shift their weight in the golf swing, but this causes inconsistent contact with the golf ball. Professional golfers keep their weight forward because it allows them to control their contact point every time, When you master this skill you will play great golf. That's why keeping your weight forward is one of the best golf tips for any golfer - it's the #1 fundamental to playing great golf.

Tom, I have been playing golf for 50 years and never have I enjoyed it more than I did yesterday. Been shooting in the mid to high 80’s for years but after watching as many of your lessons as I can find on KZbin I shot 76. You really explained the swing well and I find it works just as you said. Thank you.

Right there with you. Shot my very first 70 round ever a couple weeks ago - a 76. And this past weekend nailed my first Eagle from 105 yards out. I do not use this method with my Woods as I already hit those well and do not want to screw the woods up. But this has been great for all my irons.

@@SagutoGolf Hi there ! I’m seriously thinking of giving your swing method a good go as my return to golf after a 25 year lay off has been a struggle. I’d like to join the academy too to make sure I’m getting all the information needed. My question is am I able to cancel my subscription at anytime? I've been enrolled in Tom's online course for a few months. I went to the driving range today keeping my weight forward , while only turning my shoulders and arms. I've never been more happy with my distance and hitting the ball very straight or just a baby draw. It seemed really easy today. I did put the work in to get my set-up correct, grip, posture, hands and arm position, along the other things that build a great set-up. Once you get the set-up down, you start improving a lot then. When you put all the things you learned in the course together after some practice, it will enable you to play as good as you want. After the course, which I continue to watch over and over, it will depend on how much time you can put in improving these learned skills. The course covers it all.

A most excellent progress report, Scott! You absolutely nailed it with your remarks regarding the setup. As I've often said, if we get our setup right we will execute a good swing unless we allow some noxious variable to creep in. However, if our setup is not correct then all bets are off in terms of what might happen next. I sincerely appreciate your validating testimonials for the online school, and I'm thrilled for your improvement!! Thanks for your ongoing support, keep up the fabulous work, and I wish you all the best for a Blessed, Healthy, Happy 2024 that has you enjoying the best golf of your life! Tom

Tried this today on the range impact improved substantially as well as accuracy and distance, fantastic advice. Didn't need a lot of swing thoughts just concentrated on keeping weight forward not moving the head off the ball shoulder under chin. So much easier than the 100 things I was trying to do at once that don't work before I can just enjoy playing

Tom, I am sure you will get some push back on this BUT not from me. No matter what swing system I’ve learned I keep coming back to this stack & tilt method that produces better (not necessarily perfect) results for me. And if I forget to move further forward, that’s seems to be okay as long I rotate around my left leg (which is easy to do because I’m on my left side already). This video is an important one and a keeper.

I'm accustomed to pushback from the innocently uninformed and the mistaught as well as those misguided naysayers, but it's all inconsequential since this swing model resides in the truth. “Truth" is defined as that which conforms to reality, and this swing system conforms to the unchanging realities of Physics, Geometry, and data from the game’s best golf ball strikers. That's the truth, and the results - as backed up by countless unsolicited testimonials - are the proof. Resistance is thusly futile..... 😎 Thanks for your kind words and ongoing support!! Tom

YES! The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, Adam, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. This system certainly allows for some transfer of pressure into the trail side during the takeaway. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club backwards during that initial stage of the swing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In the swing I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion. Would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? If so, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks - I'm glad you're enjoying my lesson videos! Thank you Tom for this lesson, it has changed my game like crazy. Last round was an 84, then I tried your stack and tilt method, and first time out, I shot a 73! Can I say that again…a 73!!!!! At 66 years old I drove the ball into a green side bunker on a 305 yd par four hole. My head stays centered for the first time in 55 years of playing this crazy game. I actually gained distance on all clubs due to much better contact in the center of the face. I can’t wait to get out and try it again. Thanks Tom....great stuff as always. I've learned so much from you over the years. One thing I also noticed in applying this technique is the value of opening the left foot, I'm amazed by how many players and pros square up to the ball and force that rotation. That few degrees makes a ton of difference to help me open my hips open. Thanks for all your great content and looking forward for the Saguto Traveling Teaching Tour here out West one day! Keep it crispy!

I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Todd, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! Yes indeed - The flaring of *_both_* feet 10-20 degrees facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power move that also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lead knee and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process. Thanks so much for your support and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom PS: By the way, have you checked out my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” lately? Tom, I love your videos and how simple you make the golf swing! I've been playing for over 40 years and played scratch golf for many of those when I was able to play alot. I stay around a 4 to 5 hdcp now and can only play about twice a month. Never had a lesson, just read alot of instructional material. I have been really struggling with fat wedge shots lately, especially when the lie is tight and moist like on almost all fairways at my home course. I was dumbfounded at how well this "weight forward" tip worked! It's SO easy and I was able to produce such crisp shots today on a freshly rained on course! Tom, you are teaching it in this video and teaching things in other great videos. My wife returned to Costa Rica where she lives and works. I’ve got the home to myself, with 10+ ft. ceilings, a long hallway and a front door I never use. Went to Edwin Watts here in San Antonio, purchased a plush Matt that won’t slide tile floors and 2 dozen black/yellow practice balls. Working on weight forward, right arm tucked into my side and keep swing below my right shoulder.

@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 7 ай бұрын
Cool. I'm glad to know that my buddy Eric is going forward with this concept, Jake, so to speak.... 😎 Can you have some transfer of pressure into the trail side in the takeaway? Yes - as long as you keep your center intact and don't shift off the ball. But you best be back into your lead side by time you get to the transition. That aside, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) Here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag. Tom, I've recently started playing golf..around 7 months now and was struggling to get some form of consistency. Went through all the pros on KZbin and just got flat out confused by the almost hypocrisy of the do's and don'ts of golf, especially stance. Then I found your channel and honestly the whole putting weight on the front foot and leaning forward just worked and having a club width between the ball and heel of my foot for all clubs has just synced with me. Fast forward to today where a mate of mine, same bloke who got me into golf, was struggling with consistent shots with irons and driver... I told him your technique and boom straight and long down the driving range .. I even blurted out 'yes, nice and crispy' haha worked a charm and hes changed his whole stance now. So thank you for not just changing one golfer but making it easy enough for me to impart it onto another to help fix their striking game as well.

After multiple decades of golf I’ve come to realize that I and likely most other golfers just aren’t athletic enough shift weight and consistently strike the ball first. I have tried over and over again. I can do it about half the time in practice and rarely ever on the course. Keeping my weight on the front foot is the only way for me. Tom’s channel has been a big help.

I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. The ill-advised notion of a “weight” shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. The system I teach certainly allows for transfer of “pressure” into the trail side. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club back and around us during the takeaway and backswing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. So, after those multiple decades spent in the abyss, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. That's fantastic, Kenneth!! I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing!! And excellent work with regard to suppressing that urge. It is so important to feel the transition in order to quell the "hit" instinct and get the downswing started in the proper sequence, and slowing things down to discover and ingrain our ideal swing rhythm is an excellent way to accomplish that. This does not mean that we’re going to be slow through the zone. We are simply dialing in our tempo for grooving the correct path and achieving consistent sweet spot contact (i.e.: maximizing our “smash factor”). Think in terms of Els, Couples, Matsuyama, Cam Young, Morikawa, for example. Tom, really great tip. I started this swing change only a few weeks ago and am really starting to notice a huge distance difference as well as creating a divot in front of the ball. I am hitting it longer and straighter with less effort. Love it. I used to drop the club and scoop the ball and couldn't understand why I was not a long ball hitter. I hit my 3 wood off the fairway 210 yards and landed the green last round, the divot in front of the ball and it felt great. This exact tip is the answer to my short distance and pulling issues. Thank you.

I watch and like many of your no nonsense instruction videos and they are making a difference. In the last 3 weeks I have dropped an average of 8 strokes per round. The weight forward approach is eliminating the left pull due to more core input in the downswing. I will continue to watch and like your instructional videos for certain. The biggest difference I noticed is far less inconsistency now becoming more accurate and crisp ball striking. A work in progress training this old dog to learn new tricks but the proof is in the ball striking...thanks again.

I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you! Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness. You are so right. Too much weight shift kills except on the driver. I tore my meniscus 5 months ago and I went back to golf abt 1 month after the surgery. I couldn’t shift to my back leg bc of the pain in my right knee and I actually hit the ball better and have added 10 yards per club bc I don’t shift back. Handicap dropped from a 6 to a 1. Greta advice. Well done
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 6 ай бұрын
I appreciate that, Will! The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. By the way, this does apply to the driver as well. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? Hey Tom, I must admit you kind of blew my mind with this. I feel that I have been dismissive of the whole stack and tilt thing as an early 2000s fad for a long time, but I wouldn't even call this idea something specific to just stack and tilt. If you look at great players, even old videos of Jack Nicklaus, it looks like his hips and his weight is staying more forward which allowed him to stay centered. Once I gave this a go, I actually began to feel my hips naturally "firing" to start the downswing with a lateral movement towards the target and my arms coming down on the proper plane without even thinking about it. So anyway, just wanted to say thanks. Goes to show with the right fundamentals the golf swing can be simple.

Sadly, Jim, Stack and Tilt was relentlessly attacked by the "mainstream" of failed "instruction" whose erroneous concepts were threatened by the truth, and their nefarious efforts successfully - albeit temporarily - attached an undeserving "stigma" to the S&T name among those who chose not to do their own research. The bottom line is this: The body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. As you observe, we can watch any Tour event on TV and we'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within that realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now. 😎 I sincerely appreciate your message, and I'm very glad to learn of your improvement since deploying these concepts. Excellent job! 💪💪 Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! Have been playing for 30 years including in hs but was never taught this. Had some of the best contact of my life in the last session; rotating around the front/left leg allows striking confidence to balloon quickly all of the sudden you’re trying to go after the ball harder and contact stays flush. Broke my L5 25 years ago and my back has never felt this ‘good’ after playing until now. Better contact, more confidence, harder swings, less back damage? The sky must be falling…

I'm glad to know that you are enjoying my content, James! In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs). We achieve this by addressing the ball "stacked", shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips 1" towards the target while keeping everything else in place. That presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. During the swing we gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. The upper torso/head - and thus the swing center - remains in place during the increasing forward weight load in the downswing. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing. Would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Michael, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! Yes indeed! This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is designed to provide a lifetime of great ball striking, and since it is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everything in between, and inclusive of the best players in the world. I give all credit where it is due - including Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett for analyzing and interpreting the science, and to those who preceded them with their empirical observations of the game's best ball strikers and all their subsequent chalkboard number-crunching. WINNER, WINNER - KFCRISPY CHICKEN DINNER!!!! 💪💪 YES - This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. And you are so correct - watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. To your other point, how sad it is that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, though unfortunately such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because I suppose if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Thanks so much for sharing your accurate observations and for your validating remarks!! Hi Tom, I have been watching your videos for years and I love them and I love the way you present them. Having said that, I am going to have to call you out on this one because in another video you mentioned the same thing but said it was OK to have a slight weight shift at the very beginning of the swing. You even showed videos of pros including Rory Mcilroy having this very early weight shift. I think there needs to be a distinction made between this very early weigh shift (like Rory does) and sway. Rory's left hip moves about 20-25mm rearward by the time his backswing is about knee high, from there the hip turns and then moves forward. So I think (and you said it in the earlier video) that this is OK. I have incorporated this move and it almost feels like a "swing starter". It allows me to get just a little momentum going back which helps to get the weight forward very quickly. As long as I focus on keeping my upper body "over the ball" and shoulders rotating, this little initial bump rearward has really helped me. This move is similar in nature to when you jump from a standing position. You would never stand straight up to jump up, you will always bend your knees and go down first to jump up. Same principle applies to this initial rearward bump. The whole point is to get the weight to the front foot but you do it more naturally by going rear first.

Hi John, The need for a weight *_shift_* in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. Can you have some transfer of *_pressure_* into the trail side in the takeaway? It is by no means necessary, but absolutely yes - provided you keep your center intact and don't shift off the ball (as Rory does). But you best be back into your lead side by time you get to the transition (also as Rory does). In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing (as Rory has). Thanks for the "call out"..... 😎 Tom

Thank you for the clarification Tom. That makes complete sense. Like you, I too was the golfer who went by all the old school teachings of "weight shift" into the right side, high hands, rollover the hands through impact, etc, etc. And at times I could play pretty well but was inconsistent. I could shoot 73 one day and follow it up with a 92 the next! But since finding you and watching your videos and incorporating your instructions, I have become a lot more consistent. Its a really nice feeling going to the golf course knowing that I am going to hit the ball pretty well. Tom, I can't say I've mastered this yet but I can reliably use it 80-90% of the time (the rest, old habits creep in) and have for the past two months or so. Our golf season is about over but in my outing with my regular buddy our last two rounds, he repeatedly asked if I was a doppelganger (twin) who looked like me but played -- very different golf! 1st hole was a par 5 and without warmup I sent a very solid drive down the center. My approach shot usually ends up ~ 115-125 yds short of the green but this time (3 wood) I had very solid contact and both our jaws dropped to see it bounce on the green!! (Far from the pin and I 3 putted but was still ecstatic). Most of the day went that way! I shared with him my "secret" (your site) so now we'll see if he can catch up. Tom, I gotta say you are hilariously wacky... in a good way. 🤣 I love your methods - it is what changed me from being a poor ball striker to a pretty good one - "it" being weight forward, stack and tilt, whatever you want to call it. Makes it so much easier for the amateur to perform... I didn't get it through you, btw, but now I come to your videos to reinforce and continue to try to learn, and the entertainment value you provide makes learning easier. And yes, you are debunking what 95% of golfers think is the correct way to strike a golf ball. Although top level pros may not exactly utilize your methods, they do on short irons - watch how they set up with more weight on the left side... I used to sway off the ball as well, which then requires a fairly big move back to the right - results are inconsistency and poor contact, etc...

(Larry San Diego) Quick Question? When setting up and keeping my weight forward in my setup and through my downswing should i feel the majority of my weight towards my left knee and toes? Thanks
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 6 ай бұрын
Hi Larry, At address you should be balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting your knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of your shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing your butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. During the swing it is perfectly fine to experience pressure shifts in either foot as they respond to the dynamic motion, but not to the point where we are falling back onto our heel or leaning too far forward over our toes. I hope that helps! Tom

@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Ай бұрын
I'm very glad to know that this performed well for you, Andy - nice job! Yes - the weight forward component also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder/armpit), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice have caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Tom, this is great, thank you as always. One question: what do you *lose* by not shifting your pressure to the trail foot first? Do you lose some power/distance? Obviously we see a lot of tour pros doing a slight shift to the trail side to start their swing, so what are they gaining by doing it? (I fully realize the answer might be that you gain something, but most of us here are not on the PGA Tour, so don't do it...)
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 6 ай бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it, David! The need for a *_weight_* shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. This system certainly allows for some transfer of *_pressure_* into the trail side during the takeaway. In this swing we start with our *_weight_* forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful motion. Would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? If so, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks, Tom
