Just to clarify, I wouldn't change Seasons 8 of Ninjago at all! Just prefer how Dragons Rising is handling some concepts, but as for which season is better...? That's up to you! : )

The good thing about rising dragon is that it doesn’t make the ninja op to the villians because rising dragon was an equalizer to shatter spin

I agree, I don’t like how they got rid of previous abilities just for the sake of raising the stakes, i just hope future dragons rising seasons won’t remove the rising dragon technique like they did with airjitsu and the elemental dragons

I couldn't agree more with you. I think this is why I like season 9 more than season 8, Hunted was not afraid of going to different areas and bringing back some amazing stuff like the dragons and the elemental masters. I'm super excited about Dragons Rising s2 part 2. I wonder what the Tournament of Sources is gonna be about

I agree on most fronts, although I like SoG more because of how well Harumi was written as a villain. Ras and the Forbidden Five are good villains, but definitely not on the same level as Harumi who was only put on that path because of the Devourer (almost the same as the original Garmadon when you think about it). I do agree with the nerfing point, though. The in universe explanation is probably that Wu being gone made them permanently unable to perform those techniques again. At the same time, I like that the SoG were, for the most part, just regular people instead of the supernatural villains the ninja usually face (including in DR honestly). If the ninja still had power dragons and airjitzu, then realistically they would make short work of the SoG. It made for higher stakes, and some incredible fight scenes.

This is a really well put together video! Sons of Garmadon is one of my favorite ninjago seasons of all time, but it did feel too serious and less like lego But the creativity and seriousness of season 2 part 1 of dragons rising made it feel like an actual kids show but with themes parents can appreciate Again great video!

I never liked the idea of getting rid of fun and fantastical aspects of a franchise just to tell a "serious" and "grounded" story. Not only does it raise the question of "Why is this certain thing still allowed but this isn't?", but it also feels like they're ashamed or embarrassed by the past. I always think about how Batman's blue and grey costume is seen as silly, but he wore that costume during some of the darkest moments of his life. As for S.o.G, as you already stated, they did this to "ground" the series, but also to make their new concepts seem much grander than they actually are. However, stuff like airjitzu and the elemental dragons already had built in limits, so why not just work with that? Though it does seem like Hunted and March of the Oni did try to course correct and bring some older (and I do mean older) stuff back. And Master of the Mountain, Seabound, and both seasons of Dragons Rising so far have shown that you can tell compelling and serious stories while still having that fun Ninjago charm to it.

Honestly, I never liked SOG very much. It's not awful, but it's really frustrating. I made a video on why Harumi is an awful villain. And in my ranking of every season, I covered how this season lost what made Ninjago interesting. It got rid of so much of the imagination and cool ideas that made the show great. That's part of the reason Hunted and March of the Oni are way better.
