Glad to hear this from a South African. And when I mention to SAns in other channels about how Kenya can compare to SA on many things they always tell me it can't just because they believe no other country in sub-sahara Africa can compare with SA. And good thing about Kenya is that black Kenyans own majority of their economy and wealth unlike SA.

The thing is that Karen and similar places in Nairobi, like Muthaiga, is not just where old money resides. It is very much a sign of wealth acquired in a not so fortunate way. A la lot (but not all) of these houses have owners who became wealthy through so-called tenderpreneurship and simply through corruption. Mostly present and former politicians/businessmen. Sorry to say that but it is the sad thruth.

Hard to show Karen homes because most are hidden behind tall trees with those situated in big compounds completely hidden. What you mostly seeing are new units built in new smaller lots. Both old money and new reside in Karen. Karen is way huge than Muthaiga hence a very huge portion still underdeveloped hence why we see newer smaller establishments unlike muthaiga which is fully occupied and developed hence pretty hard to see new developments, Muthaiga is also mostly occupied by consulate residences.
@ShastaLevi10 күн бұрын
@@SafariWithDanny True story kabisa. Years ago l went to take a stroll in Karen nione vile matajiri huishi, l was really disappointed coz there was really nothing to see as most houses were tacked behind tall trees with most only a glimpse of the roofs being visible.
