I just came across this video, and as I watched it, you showed respect for those that lost these units. I drove for a towing company for over 25 years with most of those driving heavy to chase tractor trailers and such. I also chased many RV’s of various sizes over the years. Some, as you stated were fires of various types. Some were on the side of peoples homes and caught fire, as well as in the side of the road. Some were even in campgrounds or RV parks. I remember the smell and seeing not only the damage to the RV, but in many cases, the owners faces. I also have seen how much damage can occur during an accident. We were also contracted by 2 salvage companies to pick up these units for insurance companies and bring them to holding yards only to be auctioned off at a later date. Seeing RV’s damaged always hit home. I grew up camping with my parents and have continued this family tradition with my family. I have met a lot of wonderful people in my many years of camping, and thinking that anyone can suffer the loss of an RV, or any type of camping trailer really bothers me. As you said, that no one was probably in any of these RV’s when the fire occurred, which is true. I did see a few from motor vehicle accidents, but not too bad. Thankfully. Again, thank you for showing people the other side of RVing. Though, not pleasant, or often, it can happen. Please be safe in your travel and enjoy the ride!!

I own a Super C motorhome and seeing this video was a real eye opener to me about RV safety. The reason why I love Super Cs is because you have all of that metal in front of you to protect you in case of a crash. I learned so much from this .Our RV had a blowout back in 2012 and it pulled us straight into the highway divider. We all walked away with no injuries and all the RV needed was a new hood, headlight, bumper, and obviously a new tire. I was so thankful we had a Super C. Most of these salvage Class A motorhomes look like they're held up by plastic and plywood. Never buy a cheaply built motorhome. It could cost you your life. RV manufacturers should see this video in order to learn more about RV safety and implement things that make the RV more safe into their coaches. This was a fantastic video. Safe travels 👍🏻.
@Rvlove4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your compliments about our video, and very glad to hear that you were safe in your blowout related incident. Agreed that Super C coaches are likely much safer in general than Class A coaches in collisions. More in front of the driver, and the cab area is likely safer environment, and of course additional doors to exit in the event of an incident. Thanks again and safe travels. -M

I'm a retired Fire Capt. The main reason that RV's and mobile homes burn so fast is that they're built using kiln dried wood, for weight savings. Once they caught fire they were usually burned to the ground by the time we got there. And our response times from the station averaged 2 or 3 minutes.
@Rvlove5 жыл бұрын
Amazing how fast they can burn to the ground. Great point on components.
@sugrue85266 ай бұрын
The main reason they catch on fire is poor quality assembly. Our 2017 class A had all the sawdust and hole saw cut outs laying around the propane fired heater box under the refrigerator with electrical wire looms about. The second reason is the first combined with slobs, but many are naively innocent to thinking they paid for quality and the national fire marshal approved sticker on the entryway

Thank you so very very much for making this video. My husband use to sell and put tires on RV'S. So many people thought "oh there's plenty of tread, their ok". And then BAM! They have a blowout. And damage is done to the RV. Yes Class A tires aren't cheap. None of them really are. I just about had a heart attack when I paid for last set of tires last year. But just knowing that you are safer going down the road is a good peace of mind. And some people will try to overload their fuse boxes. Or when something is recalled, not get it in to be fixed. And not having their RV serviced to check the roof, fuses, LP fuel lines, tires and so much more. It may cost but your more safer in the end. Thank thank you for making this video. Hopefully it will help people be more aware. And it's nice to know of a place to go to find replacement parts. Cause they don't make Sun Voyagers anymore. Thank you and have nothing but Safe Travels

Thank you! This is exactly what we had hoped for! Greater awareness around safety. and RVers taking more responsibility for the safety of their RVs and themselves personally, and others! There is a lot of industry discussion about how many RV's are sold each year vs how many are on the roads. But on our last trip, and even where I live, it is amazing to see how many RV's in various ages and states of condition are in the yards and fields of home owners across the country. That's where they all are. Incredible.

I might add, I realized long ago that RV Fires are very common in 3 area's the Generator, the Fridge, and the Engine! I spent about $1.100 for a Passive System that uses FFF Foam, the Best Fire Suppressant, available of any type! Expensive for a reason! They are Plumbed into each system, and have a Sensor just like you see in Ceilings in Commercial Buildings whereas a Glass Vial Breaks and Automatically Extinguishes the fire, much better than even the Halon Products did! If you have a Powder Based Fire Extinguisher, (CO2, etc.) all I can say is "Good Luck, as it MAY (?) put a fire out" But the Powder needs professional removal, as it gets absolutely everywhere! And I do not know of a Pressurized Passive/Automatic Method for them either, maybe the Halon, but not them! Those two agents do Extinguish Fires, but in the case of RV's a Fuel Source in all 3 Area's of Concern, can continue if there is a Leak, or it was Burnt in the event of a Fire! Triple F, as we called it in the Service is Genuinely a Best Piece of mind! Great Video, and I stopped and looked very closely, I saw NO Extinguishing Systems! Save up your Pennies, because Most Deductibles for Insurance is more than a Proper Deterrent, in the form of the Triple F Foam product which once it extinguishes the fire, it lays down a Blanket of foam long after a Heat Source could REFLASH the same fire, that's the true benefit of Foam!

I am a survivor from a horrific house fire one of my Giamt Schnauzer's, Libby saved my life in. I lost her and 5 more animals. I was able to save my 5 surviving GS. The foam was used on my home during the fire and after to lay down about a foot of wet foam to prevent anything sparking up. I had no reason to know about the foam but was amazed at how quickly it helps kill a big fire.
@immrnoidall4 жыл бұрын
a Passive System that uses FFF Foam,and auto fuel shutoff. should be required by law. $1100 is a small cost compared to the price of these RV's. if they make a run-flat tire for the front ,that could save lives.

The reason so much stuff was left behind in those RVs that had fires were because of smoke damage. You cannot get that smell out and so perfectly good items are trashed because of it. I have dealt with a house fire aftermath before and you don't just lose the things that burned up, you lose things that get smoke damage as well. It's really difficult to process and deal with.

And while we have received some criticism (from a couple of others) about the music choice, we felt it was appropriate and reflective of the footage... and how we felt while we were walking through them, but also intentionally finished with a much lighter track to lift moods again. Above all, we are very encouraged by how much this video has moved people to really prioritize tire and fire safety. That can only be good for everyone! Thanks for the kind words.

My thinking exactly on the tires. These vehicles do not get driven on a regular basis and as such are subject to dry rot. Get one out on the road at highway speed and the tire just gives up because it has rotted and can no longer hold the air pressure.

Yes, that is definitely a problem for RVs. Plus, the tires are put under large weight strain when used.

There was an RV in my neighborhood that caught fire, there was nothing left but a frame and wheels(and tires), I’m not sure how the fire was caused, I though it was people shooting off illegal fireworks(yep, I live in a California where things such as bottlerockets are illegal, yet people shoot ‘em off anyways) at that time because it was almost 4th of July, but now your video is starting to make me think that it was most likely an electrical fire, fridge fire, generator fire, or engine fire. My step grandmother also had a trailer catch fire because of a faulty electrical system(not because someone’s daughter was smoking weed or something) installed by yours truly, Sneaky Steve, who is not a certified electrician, and the outside looked fine, but the inside was mostly incinerated(the only thing that really survived was some cabinets), and the top vent cover blew off(I know that because Sneaky Steve was a witness), and as of now, that trailer has been sold(for a price of $100), and the new owner is converting it to mobile fashion boutique to sell clothing at swap meets

RVLove | Marc & Julie Bennett also, when my mom was little, her dad(my grandpa) bought a used Winnebago RV to go on trips to the Black Hills(because they lived in South Dakota), and one day, the Engine caught fire, smoke started coming out of the hump between the driver and passenger seats that’s used to access the engine(because it’s cab over engine), and they all had to get out immediately so that they wouldn’t die of smoke inhalation, and I assume it burned down and was sent to a junkyard shortly after. It would be nice if you made a video about how to prevent these fires so I know how when KZbin is finally making me enough to buy a used Class A Motorhome

As a retired truck driver/heavy duty tow truck driver and former volunteer firemen i have seen quite a few of these fires and blow out accidents besides age out of tires the number one cause is low tire pressure get a monitoring system pay attention to it if you dont have check your tire pressure regularly when they come apart they cause a lot of damage and do cause fires as heat is what is a big part of what causes the blowout as side walls flex to muchwhen low it also puts a lot of stress on the properly inflated tire stress it also oddly enough the proper action to take with a front tire blowout is step on the throttle it will pick up the front slightly this gives you a couple of extra seconds to get together then back out of it slowly if you do it fastyou have a chance of losing control if step on the it is almost guaranteed that you will lose control dont use the brakes till going real slow front tire blowouts can be controlled also you can not tell if a tire is properly inflated by thumping itthere can be be as much as 30 or 40 psi difference engine bay fires are usually caused by improperly installed wireing or some times a fuel leak although it is not as big a problem with diesels as gas some body else already covered frig firesand as they said the best way to prevent them is proper maintenance Have a good day THE GRUMPY BUS

Beware of front generators and right front tire flats. The flapping debris can take out the fuel line to the generator. That means fire blocking the door--the only exit you could count on. Three adults perished a few years ago along the freeway in Arizona or Nevada when that happened. They could not get out the back "exit" window. Passersby frantically tried, but could not get them out....

Thank you so much for the info on Visone RV used parts! I really didn’t care to see all the footage on the fire damage etc., it was too long and really kind of too much of the same old damage and felt negative but the end that showed the part i was really interested in on the warehouse parts and what they had to offer was really 😎 cool! Thanks so much again!!! 👍😋

You are welcome. It definitely is not our usual uplifting and inspiring kind of video, and yes, a bit of repetition, but we did not mind that, as the visual imagery can be so shocking it is easy not to allow the message to sink in at first, so I intentionally left the repetition in there... and while it may have felt negative and a bit gloomy, we are glad to see (and read in the comments) that the video is having a much desired positive effect - and that is educating people in a way that empowers them to be more conscious about what CAN happen and ultimately make better, more responsible and safer decisions about taking care of their RVs - and be more mindful of how they can help reduce the risk of fires and tire blowouts. Cheers!

A Very Good Video that these Folks put together. The one word that comes to mind is COMPLACENCY! Of course Safety and Preventative Maintenance should be the KEY to keeping your RV up to DATE and SAFE. Far too many people are Complacent about Safety and the idea "It won't happen to me"! There are so many Unsafe drivers and RV'ers on the road it makes your head spin. And like the Bennett's said, most of these Dead RV's are from Tire Blow outs or Tire Fires! Yes, Tires can catch on fire while driving down the road, from Low Tire pressure on the inside duels, to overheated brakes. These are things that must be checked frequently to insure your trip and RV are Safe. Over 4000 RV fires occur each year and the #2 cause is FRIDGE Fires! I would love to see the RV Industry get away from GAS / ELECTRIC Fridges and start installing Residential Style Fridges in all RV's! I always tell people, SAFETY should NEVER Be Compromised! Have a good safe day!
@Rvlove5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes you make excellent points and we completely agree. Complacency... safety and preventative maintenance is KEY. And we have seen so many unsafe drivers out there too, it does make your head spin. Fortunately, we are starting to see a move toward more residential fridges, and this has helped reduce the number of fridge related fires. Safety first at all times, thank you for your comment. We think you will like our next video about that very topic.

This has nothing to do with getting parts for a motorhome......but it's a story you all need to read if you have a CLASS A motorhome. Years ago, my parents were traveling to Texas and they were 3-4 vehicles behind (my parents had a Class C Motorhome) this Class A that SUDDENLY caught fire. The man driving it (we assumed it was a man, it could have been his wife, etc) noticed the fire and stopped the motorhome so close to a highway guardrail that they couldn't OPEN the door to get out!!! They had no time to move it, and they both died in the motorhome, in the fire. Several men/women TRIED desperately to get them out.....but they couldn't. My Dad had nightmares for weeks......My dad and 3 other men were treated at a local hospital for burns(not serious) and released. Every SINGLE time I see one of those CLASS A Motor homes (and this was in the late 70's early 80's and I am not sure if the window on the driver's side was a safety window or not, and furthermore, I don't think there was even time to open it if it was.) My dad ALWAYS had an AXE and a sledgehammer under his driver's seat in his motorhome which he did try to use that day....but the fire was too intense. PLEASE if you have a motorhome like this, BE MINDFUL of what you might have to do in an emergency. My parents never got to their destination, they came home for a few weeks(I actually flew down to meet them and drove the motorhome back home for them.) My dad's hands were burned and my mom was a basket case so it was better I met with them and drove them home.
@Rvlove5 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness, what a tragic story. I am so sorry for that couple who died and your parents and others who witnessed this... and were traumatized. And that your dad was burned. I cannot imagine how devastating that must have been and how powerless they must have felt trying to rescue them. Thank you for sharing this - so important to be mindful when pulling over HOW you are going to make your exit. Good idea for your Dad to keep that axe and sledgehammer under the seat, a glass cutter is likely a good tool to have as well. And know where all the exit windows are in your RV to be able to use in a hurry, in need... in all parts of the motorhome. Thank you for sharing and so sorry again to hear of this terrible and sad experience.

@@Rvlove Thanks. This was the first time I have ever posted a comment regarding this horrible accident on a public forum such as KZbin. I have (of course) told this story many times, especially to NEW motorhome owners that are getting ready to travel all over the country. It's amazing how many people have taken offense and actually made comments to me. It isn't that I am trying to belittle ANYONE....but it is done to make other people aware of the dangers out there that COULD happen, especially when you have someone that hasn't ever owned a motorhome before, and I have come across a lot of people over the years that their motorhome purchase is a FIRST for them. To be sure, they've camped previously, most in campers or trailers and the motorhome is a life long dream of theirs to own. I actually have never owned a motorhome....although I have had a few travel trailers and love LOVE camping. The mention of the glass cutter is a good one, but my dad didn't own one at the time, and when you are in a situation like the one I explained, the sledgehammer or the ax would, of course, be a quicker easier method to try to help someone by smashing out a window. My dad started carrying the sledgehammer after someone's toddler grandkid had locked themselves in a motorhome and the KEYS were in the motorhome hanging on a hook!!! Of course, this was YEARS ago, and the man who was the Grandpa to the child asked my dad if he had something to break the window with and my dad had only an ax at the time, so that was when the sledgehammer was added (I think) Thanks for your comment!

I dont understand how they couldnt get out , did the rv have no windows , im sorry but i find it hard to believe this story , i dont care who you are , if your in a rv and it catches fire there are plenty large windows to break and even as a passer by , all it takes is a tire iron to smash a window , did it explode into flames ? Ive been in two house fires and even put one out so i have a hard time with this story ..
@jennydiazvigneault55484 жыл бұрын
@@4486xxdawson Have you ever tried smashing out even a car window with a tire iron? They dont just shatter they are made to stay together in the event of an accident. An RV window will also be mounted high up and harder to reach. If a fire is blazing you wont have much time.

Over the years a common thing I have seen with luxury motor homes is that they are speeding. I think there is a psychology among some of these entitled drivers that they are somehow immune and invulnerable to the calamities that befall ordinary people. They have the money to buy and operate a monster RV, but not necessarily the knowledge and background for operating heavy vehicles. Blowouts are not only a matter of tire aging. Speeding is not only a matter of exceeding the posted limit; it is a matter of driving within the limits of your vehicle and personal limitations. Believing you are the master of the universe is a dangerous attitude.
@Rvlove5 жыл бұрын
Malcolm we could not agree more! So many drivers of ALL kinds of RVs seem to drive at speeds they would in a passenger vehicle, oblivious to fact that a) they don't have the ability to maneuver or stop as easily, and b) the tires are not always rated for higher speeds like that. A couple of years ago, we were overtaken on I-80 by a large 45' luxury motorhome at such a speed i did not even have time to grab my phone and capture it, even though Marc pre-warned me they were coming up behind us super fast. They flew by at around 90mph we estimate... couldn't believe it... a few miles down the road, we saw them pulled over by Highway Patrol. Needless to say we ended up ahead of them and they ended up losing the time they thought they were gaining by speeding. Driving that fast is just not safe for anyone...and we always caution RVers on speed. Not to mention fuel economy plummets over 60mph.
@malcolmmarzo24615 жыл бұрын
@@Rvlove As an aviator I am used to calculating trips with the time-distance-speed equation. When I do this with auto trips it is surprising how little time you "save" by driving, say,10 MPH over the limit. Just a few minutes typically. If people realized this some might reconsider their speeding. But people are just 20% rational--on a good day : -) That's why I feel safer flying 2000 feet over a highway, rather than being down there.

As a semi truck driver, my 2 pet peeves are 1. When they pass me, and move back to in front of me in my lane they about clip my front bumper with their rear one. 2. Are not paying attention to the merging lanes, and don't merge properly.
@malcolmmarzo24615 жыл бұрын
@@lilliearizona Out here in Nevada this kind of driver often has California plates. I figure people from urban areas are conditioned to be on top of each other. So they like bumper-to-bumper. Even when there is room to spread out cars a quarter mile apart.

Hey you guys- this was absolutely HORRIFYING!!! I can't imagine the courage it took for you to make this video, being full-time RVers- wow... Thanks for the reminder about tires; we had two flats within 5 minutes on our Montana fifth wheel that took us (with help) about 8 hours to fix; given that we had only ONE spare (last summer.). We assumed (always a bad idea), that based on looks, we had great tires. I did check the dates on them, and they were well within their use dates. I forgot that when you travel for more than 2 hours at a time, temperatures during the summer affect even good tires (I wish I had your great book back then!). Did you find a cargo door for CC? Hope all is well with you both! Let us know if you get up here into the Washington/Idaho area- we'd love to attend one of your meet-ups if you have one! Blessings, Bob

HI Bob, always nice to hear from you. Yes it was horrifying. Am sure it was evident in the video how disturbing it was for us.. and it wasn't an easy video to make, as we are more of an inspiring educational channel and we are not the types to focus on "drama". That said, this is a reality and we wanted to present it in a way that would focus on education and increase the focus on safety. And based on the comments it seems to be having this desired effect, which we are glad about. Tires are such a common issue - and one many RVers conveniently overlook - either from lack of education or unwillingness to spend the money, as it's not cheap to replace them. But they are priority #1 in our book. Sorry to hear about your flats with the Montana - did you check if the tires are the correct rating for the weight of your rig? But yes, temperatures/weather/length of driving can all affect the tires. Do you have a TMPS? We are sharing a video review on the system we recently got and are impressed with. So glad the book has been so helpful to you! We did not find a cargo door for CC yet... we may be over in the eastern Oregon area again late summer.. keep an eye out for us Would love to organize a meetup on the west coast! Cheers to you!

Awesome Place! Difficult to use their On-Line Ordering System, for me anyway? Never did figure that out! I called my order in, but they are so busy, that they don't like to do that! If you know what you want though, and are in a High-Line Coach, like my 1995 Foretravel, they have some great Offerings! I bought mine with a Vandalized Passenger Window, that had a Piece of Plastic as the Sliding portion, and didn't look, or work so well! I got the used one, from these fine folks, which had Interior Smoke Damage that I found difficult to remove. I ended up using a 3M Scotchbrite pad, test area, and ended up scratching a small area, so don't use that! Use a lot of Vinegar, and Elbow Grease, and in time, removes it, just fine! The cost was reasonable, and glad they are in Business, as the Window Manufacturer for my Coach, has been long gone! I certainly Appreciate them existing!
