Squatter takes over abandoned RV... Until I take it away!

This cleanup project didn't go quite as expected, and was a good reminder that we really have to watch our backs and take every precaution we can when doing stuff like this. Lessons were learned and my procedures have been changed.
The gentleman that was living in this RV is now in hospice care and voluntarily gave up his RV to be hauled off and scrapped before it got drug out into the woods and trashed like so many others. Unfortunately as you can see, someone else got to it before we did..

@bobblemitch I was going to make a comment similar to yours. Though, I was fortunate to not have to live on a porch. I do work at a facility that used to be a tuberculosis treatment center and all of the older buildings, 1920's to 60's were mostly porches. The clients slept out in the elements. It was believed to be a beneficial part of curing the disease. Now the place is a drug and alcohol treatment facility. (White Deer Run, Allenwood, Pa) It is situated on the side of a small mountain and is a very beautiful place to work.

First of all, as explained, the owner of the RV was very ill. Try cleaning when you're dying. Second, how do you know the mess was hers? It was probably left by the sick owner. Did you see a dumpster anywhere so she could clean it up? Third, you don't even know how long she was there. Maybe she had just arrived and didn't have time to drag off the garbage. If you're going to assume things about people, I suggest assuming the best not the worst. It would be a nicer world.

I understand your point but you should watch some of the other content creators like Not the Worst Cleaner and those like her because she has a psychology degree and she goes into the homes of the disabled and elderly and cleans their homes for them for free because otherwise, these honest and decent, but completely overwhelmed people would be removed from their homes by the state because getting their heads around the task of cleaning their homes has them completely overwhelmed 🥺 and unfortunately their depression has made their situation feel completely hopeless to them. Not the worst Cleaner*s explanation about these peoples situation is that the mess is caused by a Trauma Response. That's the how the human brain responds to situations that the person is not capable of properly processing at the time that the person experienced at the time of the incident. Were you se*ually assaulted as a small child? Did you have an parent who's punishment was far too harsh for the intended 'crime'?. I know someone who's dad whacked her across the back with a 2x4. She still has a 2x4 sized indentation into her vertebrae 50 years later. No crime of a 12 year old should be that harsh. Child murderers don't even get tested like that. Have you ever seen a dog that lives with being beaten or kicked so much that it never raises it's head? I have. I saw a horse 🐴 🐴 🐴 at a little carnival when I was a young teen that, no matter how I tried to gain it's trust, attention and love. he refused to make eye contact with me. I was so upset about it I wanted to take him home and love him and rebuild his self esteem. The man that ran the little children's horsie ride🐴 🐎 🐴🐎 🐴 looked like a horrible person, duty T shirt and all. A horse shouldn't be made to be like that. They are supposed to nicker and nuzzle you with their nose. I've been around horses and that horse's behavior was not natural. So, I said all of that to say this. You don't know what people are going through and you may have had more nurturing parents or a mother that helped and encouraged you to learn how to clean. Everybody isn't born with that and it's rather petty for you to look down on people that don't have lives as together as you do. Everybody has faults. Maybe your faults just aren't as obvious as that specific person's are. Maybe it's time to develop some compassion lest you be judged with the same measurement that you use to judge others... When I was homeless I used to sleep behind an optometrist office because they had a very bright light in the back next to the parking lot and a table and benches so I would sweep the whole area at night because there was a lot of pine trees so lots of needles and the couple times they caught me sleeping there they just woke me up politely and said hey were opening up our business time to go..... And I left and said sorry thank you, but I never left a mess and always left it cleaner

@@cathynewyork7918 yes and no because I was basically given a week after my 18th birthday had family stuff come up and had a week to find a job or else I was out and no doubt about it, I was out and packed a bag and left I'll admire that I still have had a job but I honestly worked for anything I got from the age of probably 6 It started with me wanting to go to see monster trucks and my family was not well off by any means, so my father said you want to go see them pay for it yourself so I collected recycling for months almost anywhere I could and made a 100 bucks just for my Dad to basically guilt trip me into giving him the money for the movies and then on he said if you want deodorant or toothbrush or whatever toiletries get the money on your own for your own clothes and stuff and I did but like I said family stuff hit I was struggling for months with zero attention being paid and was dismissed for my weakness so things happen to people so without any help from anything or anyone life can be hard

That RV back in the late 90's cost almost, if not more, then $250,000. They were gorgeous vehicles. If you can buy something like this, then you should be able to fuel it. Besides, the fuel was under half what we pay today.

I have battled homelessness several different times in life due to health. Employers simply don't keep those that constantly need random unexpected multiple sick days regardless of how skilled or devoted you are. Anyways, my point is that in all those times no matter where I went I found that certain people simply don't give two bits about anything after a certain point of running around living as if life is lawless. This is going to sound totally cruel, hate me for saying it if you want, but put em on a rickety stool with a rope and give them only one of two options, the rope or get it together properly. Live outside all you want, but you will live civilized and earn your way. Even ill and in unexplainable pain I got my butt up every single morning before daybreak, packed up, gathered any and all trash for the bin on my way out of where I camped for the night (always carried an extra bag for trash), and off to wherever any sort of work that could be found that day. Tried not to sleep in the same place twice over if it could be avoided. Even at the soup kitchens many of these people are outright disrespectful to their surroundings and those that try to help them. Most, if not all, working on trying to get what they've nicknamed the "nut check" which is disability and every last one purposely functioning at a level to maintain government aid AND claim they're unable to maintain a dependable source of income for themselves. Look I'm not saying I don't understand certain circumstances, I'm just saying the vast majority are milking the system because they simply don't want to do what it takes to fend for themselves and they just want to remain acting like children with allowances expecting others to clean up after them 🤷‍♂️. They physically bust their butts all over town for things they want or need for silly reasons, but refuse to get out and join the workforce. I have no sympathy for that.

Grandparents bought an RV after they retired in the early 90's and built their house to retire in Florida. I’m a fellow tow company owner in the central Valley here in California. I know exactly how you feel when it comes to these motorhomes. We get a lot of motorhomes through the sheriffs department. It’s very rare that CHP will call us out for one. Unless the county pays for the disposal. It is extremely hard for any of these tow companies in our area to want to take them for obvious reasons. There is no money to be made. In fact, it actually cost to get rid of them. The whole video was great to watch. I just have a couple small constructive criticisms. Please don’t take the criticisms personally. The one thing that I noticed was when you put the pins back into your risers. I always tell my drivers to put the pins in the other way. The reason for that is when you put your boom away and you keep the risers on. You’re not relying on the Safety pins to hold the main pins in place. If the safety pins were to fall out, then the main pin would simply drop out. Then, of course the riser would come flying off, possibly causing damage, injury, and or death. Not to mention you lose a riser. The other concern I had was when you improvised using that sharp rock on a very old tire. I was extremely nervous when you crawled underneath there. Now I did notice you made it a point to not stay under it for very long however, it just takes a split second for that tire to have blown out and you getting seriously injured. I’ve been in your situation where I have forgotten wood. So what done was use a another set of risers to act as a block. That way you have a nice smooth surface. As fellow tow operators. We are a big family that watch out for each other. Again, it was just something that I had noticed. And I was simply worried about you. One other thing I would like to bring up. Although you had mentioned you had knocked on all the walls prior to you hooking up the RV. I personally would have done that very thing and before going any further do a walk-through first. Because had that person been , jumping around especially the way you had the front tires preloaded. That could’ve been very bad. Not to mention if they had been “ hurt” that could have set you up for an injury lawsuit. Also, I have ran into an RV about 10 years ago. Just as I was doing a walk-through, I found a deceased person laying in the master bedroom. All the more reason to do a complete walk-through. One more thing. You can also get yourself in a situation that if you towed the RV with somebody in it. That could be considered kidnapping here in the state of California. Just FYI my friend. I’ve seen it happen. I’m sorry this message was long. I just want to share my experiences. We are one big family and we need to watch out for each other. Just my thoughts. Ron

They don't usually provide trash service to RVs parked on public streets so the only thing they can do is throw trash out in the woods or keep it in the RV. Maybe if the city put dumpsters out there people could properly throw out trash, but then that would encourage more homeless to gather there.

They could easily throw them away at what ever store they get food, a convenience store or fast food place. That doesn’t explain why the inside has junk strewn about that they have to step over. Not to be critical--just from military experience, what we called PMCS'ing our vehicle every day (quick walk thru of necessary supplies, tools, fluid levels, etc.) has saved me hundreds of times. It's still a habit that follows me late in life and lets me catch problems early. Once it's engrained in you, it's a nice habit that rewards you time and again. ;-) Love your channel--be safe out there!

The US Air Force calls it PMI (Preventive Maintenance Inspections) and we in the US Navy in Vietnam had the MPC (Maintenance Policy Checklist) to keep our patrol boats SA (Squared Away) at all times.

What a sad indictment of society, when you generalise everything, have no compassion and empathy for those less fortunate than yourself. If America had such things as universal free healthcare, and a decent mental health program there would be less poverty and fewer homeless and therefore squatters. There are countless social programs to help people in both those circumstances. She was there because she chose drugs over _everything_ else in her life -- including her life. She didn't want to quit drugs, and because of that she couldn't enter treatment programs, and couldn't take advantage of the social programs to aid her. There's compassion in this world, but it isn't compassionate to support someone making these choices, it is harmful.

The engine and trans are no different than any other Toyota pickup truck. 20R/22R. They are sought after because of their size, and fuel economy. They are perfect little 1 or 2 person rigs, that fit in many places others dont. He was hauling off $5000-$8000 even if it didnt run. Hood luck finding a decent one in working order for under $10k.

Being homeless is expensive. There’s a tax on every move you make. If you had to choose between a haircut and doing laundry vs trash bags, cleaning products, and the cost/logistics of transporting full trash bags to a disposal location which would you choose? The mental storm that rains on the decision making process of homeless people makes it hard to see the next step through the haze.

They just try to find any safe environment where they won't be murdered in their sleep. And the resources you mention typically consist of food, clothing and hygiene products. That's it! As for laws, well sometimes laws are no always just. Remember, slavery was once legal in this country. There's no way I would ever stand by a law like that. Maybe if we start valuing people over property things would get better? Abe Lincoln did, and things got better.

Scarcity mindset prevents *some people* (not all poor people) from recognising trash as trash. I helped at a self-help homeless place and one guy ate 5-6 day old food daily (that hadn't been refrigerated) in preference to the fresh food, as it still looked like edible food to him. He wouldn't let me dispose of it, even though we had top restaurants dropping off their leftover fresh food each night.

I worked ER. Had homeless people who were discharged but refused help from Social Services. They could not, would not follow rules...like no drugs, alcohol in shelters. Their minds were made up.

A neighbor didn't have garbage service and had his bags of trash in a trailer. When he took the trailer to the dump the rats bailed out of the trailer and ran into the bushes. Thankfully I had cats and the rat man moved away.

I was so surprised to see her come out of there and wondered if someone else could be in there as well. That could have ended so much differently, thank GOD for safety. There is so much more to towing than the average person even considers. One has to realize that some that are homeless have mental health problems, this is part of the reason encampments are trashed. My cousin's husband owned a large towing company in State College PA and one night on a call to tow in a semi - another semi came up behind the first vehicle and killed her husband they found him under the first vehicle. Even though they had no permission to live there! You still have to go through the courts to get them out, and this process can take a year or more! This is not fair to the actual owner of the property! If someone is living in your home, with out permission, you should be able to make them leave immediately! And if they refuse, then your local police department or sheriffs department should come and remove them for you! Ask me how I know!

Litsis has been out to my place in Post a couple times to break into my sons Jeep. My stupid kid locks his only key inside it then has to call his insurance company for help. Great employee’s! They get right in and are nice,neat and well mannered. Not all tatted up and rude like most todays younger employees.

To save yourself from that call in the future, go to a key cutting place and get another key for it (try it right away when you get it) then get a magnetic key holder and hide it underneath the vehicle somewhere.

With the poor condition & mounds of garbage & trash on the ground, plus squatters living in filth, why didn’t local authorities clean that mess months ago? Tire imprint in pavement showing its bee abandoned for months! Previous owners should have bee accountable for that wreck! Run Vin -# to get information on former owner! Also noticed never any traffic on roadway was this a private park or industrial entrance! Nevertheless, this disgraceful, and disgusting situation never should happen again!

Adding to the first reply about getting a spare key, you don't have to buy the $300 spare from the dealer. The hardware store can cut a key that will unlock the door. It won't start newer cars, but all you need is to get the door open.

used to run medium and heavy wrecker in Pope Valley CA. I had to tow many junk RV's out of Lake County CA. I would hook and book as fast as I could. I had good luck and never ran into an occupied rv. My boss and I recovered a MACK transfer truck and trailer from a geothermal power facility in 2016, Fast forward a few years and I took a job with the owners of the Transfer. I was too spoiled by my previous 379 and decided that Mack Trucks are not for me. Not trucking anymore. I do keep my CDL because drivers are always needed

It's never been an easy way to make a living, but during that recession that affected even California - for a long time, thought to be recession proof - so I got with a friend of mine from the service, moved from Oklahoma to Los Angeles, and started painting houses and apartments. My dad and 3 of his sisters were orphaned when he was 9. He taught us to take care of things and if something still worked, it didn't need replaced. Also, that soap and water are cheap. There's never an excuse to be dirty. I have been alittle bit OCD about cleanliness, but I'd rather be that way instead of living in slop like that RV. I still have alot of kitchen things from my first marriage 45 years ago. My kids just think it's awful and think I should buy new things. They still work and I still like them so I guess I'm keeping them.
