Where's the eMarker chip in a USB cable? And what does it do?

This really interesting cable is the reason I bought a microscope. It has a clear case with a lot of unpopulated options on the circuit board and we can decipher the eMarker IC markings. The datasheet is completing the story, which makes the buy totally worth it.
