Where Should My RIDGEBACK PUPPY Sleep?

I have a 13 week old ridgie i picked up 3 days ago. I have listened to (nearly?) all your videos in the leadup. My last ridgie x passed in 2020 at age 18 and we talked about getting another. Fast forward to an accident online opportunity - with lots of back and forth questions and lots of almost-pulling-out. And here I am with the most perfect (so far) ridgie puppy - purely by chance. I am very clear about boundaries and I feel that the breed is well able to discern and respond to clear direction. She has slept through the night the last 2 nights with me getting her out of her crate on the first night at 3am for a pee. I think like my first, she is well able to wait from 11pm to 7 am for a pee. My first lived outside from day one and let herself out for a pee. This time we have a crate in my room atm and all I hear if anything is her dreaming. She has her bone and a jumper of mine to snuggle (on top of my previous ridgie's kennel rug) and a knowledge that I am not out of eyesight. She dashes from the couch to her crate without any instruction. In fact, I have to give her very little instruction I guess because I am very sure of what I expect. She sits before every meal and would not dare to touch any food without being told it is okay. Perhaps I am too focused for a puppy - all the same, she will be well trained and able to engage safely. When mine were pups, they would sleep in a wide open metal crate with the door open and lost of blankets. I never locked them in. I also had several dog beds just outside my bedroom and eventually they moved there on their own and the crate went away. Problem with these monsters (😁) are they grow! Thus outgrowing their crates happens fast. Excellent breed!

Great video. I get my ridgeback puppy in October so am busy preparing by watching plenty of videos. What size crate will be required for a female ridgeback? I intend to buy one for the full size dog and use some material to reduce it to a smaller size initially.

Ouer 16 weeks puppie has to learn to be alone now, can we by mooving the cage he sleep in a bit at the time, into the room next door supplement or help us learn him to be along in this room at daytime as well? Love your videos!!! *after trying 4 times daytime, he barks after eating up 50% of hes frosen kong, aboute 10min. and jumps at the door, not scratching, but jump and bark nonstopp. Regards, from Norway

I started my new 10 week old Ridgeback puppy in a crate, he hated it. Had great success with him sleeping on a beanbag next to my bed, for the next 8 weeks. Then last week he discovered he can get on my bed. Now guess where he sleeps every night ;)

Please tell me how you potty train at night? Do you still have to take them out every hour??

Hey Catherine, thanks for watching! We would recommend taking their water away an hour before bed and letting them out for a wee just before you put them to bed for the night. The take them out first thing in the morning and let them have their water back. This should help with potty training over night 👍🏼

My livernose sleeps wherever he pleases . He has 4 beds , plus my bed , that he rotates through in the night . It's a dogs world , I just pay the bills .
