3 wonderful choices! I've been to BKK and this summer going to Makati (and then down to El Nido) and hope to see Da Nang some day, as well, as I've heard great things. Thanks for talking about your experience with these three great places. Right now, I can't imagine living anywhere else than Thailand. Except for burning season it's a 10/10 destination. I appreciate Christianity but lean towards Buddhism intellectually and with my heart. You are right that Thailand is a very warm place. Mai pen rai is for real. I guess my main draw to PH is the women. I'll explore that option soon. Not that you can't find it in Thailand, possibly Vietnam (although I'd place the odds as very low) but finding a lovely Filipina is by far the top chance for a "last love" for a man in retirement.

I think it's very close too and at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference. I'd choose Da Nang because I love the beach vibe, I prefer Vietnamese food to Thai (but still love Thai food) and perhaps the clincher for me is the incredible coffee scene in Vietnam. Not everyone would list coffee as a factor, but as a coffee lover they've sold me! BKK has better infrastructure however, and like you said the choice of food is world class compared to Da Nang. I also prefer Da Nang's climate to BKK.

Retirement visa in Thailand is actually very easy and yes, you have to have ฿800,000 in the bank, however, you can easily get a five-year DTV visa which basically allows you to stay six months at a time and can renew it six months so basically you could stay in Thailand for five years, and you could get your retirement visit visa and in reality you don’t have to keep that money in the bank All the time and honestly if you’re that poor, go to Vietnam

BGC is so small and boring. It’s just designer stores, restaurants serving frozen pre-prepared meals, and Asian tourists taking pictures. Nobody to talk to. No culture, No local inexpensive healthy street food. The condos are so overpriced in PH for a place that has zero nightlife and sub par medical facilities. Condo prices in Bangkok are half of BGC. Access to healthy food, best hospitals, and 247 coffee, international cuisine street food, and bars with beautiful girls all night. BGC is a ghost town after 10pm. The entire Philippines is a joke. Avoid it.

@ I can afford BGC easily. I have. I’ve lived in the Philippines for years. It’s boring. The food is awful. But why would I pay that for a BGC shoebox condo and BGC awful TGIF restaurant when I can have a penthouse in Bangkok with international cuisine and 250 nightclubs. It’s a no brainer. The Philippines is a waste of time. Even Vietnam and Cambodia completely blow the Philippines away, in cost, activities, nightlife, and healthy food. Philippines is dead last and will never catch up.

@ I travel all over Asia, and have homes in some of them long term. I can go anywhere I want, eat whatever I want. I’m allowed to have an opinion to warn people about the awful food and awful housing prices in the Philippines. Not to mention all the garbage, broken infrastructure, sewer smells, deep fried food and innards, shower water smells like petrol, out-of-stock items, long lines, inferior building materials, back breaking tiny trikes, garbage burning everywhere, ZERO nightlife even in makati, honking horns, the list goes on. I’ve never experienced one of these things in all the Asian countries I’ve traveled to and lived in. Including Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, Korea, Indonesia. I warn people about the Philippines and I’m entitled to my opinion. I’ve lived in BGC long term. I’ve also lived in the Philippines province. It was really boring and unhealthy. Every other country seems much better. Cheers and have a great day !

Best is to retire in Thailand hands-down it’s not even close, there are so many problems in the Philippines. Vietnam is not there yet, but they are very close second but no way the Philippines zero. Is so much problems in the Philippines so much graft, politicians do nothing for the population. They have the largest amount of human capital going to other countries in the world because they can’t get any reasonable jobs, which means that they will need money money money from anyone that comes there, they quite honestly are not very industrious . They’re not very helpful. The food is not too good, prices are higher in reality in most cases, especially for the quality that you get there are so many other problems in there internets down half the time infrastructure sucks too many scammers what I have seen most people that have lived there for a period of time if they were there 20 years ago, they’re OK the last five years no way in hell Anyway, good luck to anybody that wants to retire there trust me I don’t think you’ll be very happy unless you wanna live a not that great life
