I've found this video really useful - I was shocked to see the views?! It's brilliantly helpful and was first in my search list. My question may surprise you but would really appreciate an answer since i heard Matt D'Vella mention the same thing about 'Blanket Forts' Do these really work? I would have thought it would make it worse. Should I put my microphone under it and mainly use my iphone to read off it? Any advice on how to do this properly? Because I really want a professional sounding voice over! Any help would be appreciated :)

Yes, they do! It's also how we get "field" recordings of ourselves when we have to podcast away from home. The biggest downside is that it can be tough to get the distance from your microphone right as a smaller air chamber means less low-frequency attenuation, so your voice may sound bassier if you don't use an equalizer on sub 150Hz sounds.

I've been struggling hard with this issue so I really look forward to trying out this advice. Question for the blanket fort- what do you use to hold up the blankets? I've used chairs in the past but that requires me to kneel or slouch once I'm inside the fort so that's very uncomfortable.

I've always tucked one end into the bed and pulled it almost taut with a dresser/wardrobe

What's the microphone you're using?

It really depends on the mic. The Condenser Mic that I have is from Fantech. I literally have to keep it about 1 inch from my mouth to get the best quality.

Very helpful! Question: If I had a Condenser/ Cardioid microphone, would it have to be in the video shot for good sound? Or can I have it off frame? (It comes with a schissor arm)

Hmmm I never knew that you should angle a carotid microphone a bit. Would it not be a problem when trying to reduce the pickup of a mechanical keyboard?

Story of my simple soungproof: My apartment's all walls are top to bottom covered with this awful, absolutely hidious 90's vibe brown-white _heavilly textured wallpaper_ that makes the designer-me gag. But it's nicely soundproof *and* fits with my rather _"classic ikea with hint of recycled avant garde"_ furniture setting 😂😂😂 End of story.
