Thanks for all your videos. My son (7 years old) is watching them and it is really helping him! His coach said that He got so comfy compared to other kids of his group 😊

Coach can you make a video about tight turns please? I’ve been playing for 6 years on ice and I’m good with turning to the right but can’t to the left, can there be a demonstration about weight shift on feet and body if it’s possible? We love you

I think so😮

Haha, I feel you! You're pretty much describing me to a T. I'm a fellow Zoolander. One thing I've been working on to try and get better, oddly enough, has been my crossovers, only because they really force you to get into that form that's so tough to get into when you're just working on the tight turn itself. Here's what I've been doing, and hopefully it can help you somewhat. I'm still working at it, but my turns not at least could be done inside of the faceoff circle, where before, I'd probably need the better part of the whole rink to do it. Since I couldn't turn to the left well, I also couldn't really crossover, obviously. So what I did to kind of kill two birds with one stone was work on just the C-cut with the outside food on the turn (my right foot). Initially, this was pretty much just all of my weight being on that right foot, with my left inside leg not really contributing much, but over time, I started to get more and more comfortable. Eventually, you'll get to a point where you can kind of shuffle step with your feet, so that you are still doing C-cuts with that inside edge on your outside (right) foot, but the little hop in it really helps add a little more push to it. From that point, you can start to try and introduce the actual crossover, and then hold once you plant back on your right foot that should now be inside of your left skate. What I've made it a point to do is really hold that crossed-over position and then try to really feel the weight in my left foot that's behind me and on the outside edge. That's about as far as I've made it so far, but I'm hoping with a few Stick and Puck sessions I can just spend 30 minutes to an hour going left and really get comfortable enough to where I can just cut a hard turn without thinking to the left. I think the other hard thing is just breaking that habit. I can turn left, but it's not pretty, and I'm working on about 4 years of playing hockey now where I just always turn right, so my brain just naturally gravitates towards going right, and it's a tough habit to break. Same with the hockey stops to the right, or stopping with my left foot at all. My brain just defaults to what it can do, so I've got to spend hours drilling it into a new reality.

If your new to hockey and playing rec or beer league just play defense 75% of the time. you'll really have no choice but to learn transitions plus you have lots of space and time on the break if you time your strides from the center line

EXACTLY what I was looking for, thank you!! Been struggling w/ forward to back transitions for a while but couldn't really find any good videos for it (maybe I didn't look hard enough lol)

Would this apply on roller blades too? Struggling with transitions
@CAVEMANsean Жыл бұрын
Yes. Work on your balance, it's a little easier on roller. Start slow and don't be afraid of messing up while you work on it. Everybody starts somewhere. Try to skate the face off circles and keep your body facing the net. It's a good drill for transitions, balance and edge control (roller doesn't have 2 edges but it's the same idea as inside of the wheel and outside of the wheel we always still said edges to keep it simple)
Rockin’ the Marsblade holders, eh? Would love to hear your thoughts.

I could never feel comfortable having my skates that loose around my ankles
@kala17803 ай бұрын
I tried it for a couple of years in "pond hockey", it really gives good mobility and it feels very good to skate like that but I feel it is also way easier to catch a groove on the ice and fall down if you're not careful, especially when skating tired and you're not in control of your ankles as much. Might just be my experience, Nowadays I tie my skates higher again because I dont want to fall down especially when playing a casual game without any pads. 😅
