That's is why we(brazilians) get so upset when people see us as only Rio. There are thousands of beautiful cities, national parks and different areas to see. We are bigger than USA without Alaska, we are the most bio-diverse country in the world and probably the most visually mixed in race and culture too. But the world resume us to Rio. Rio is beautiful too, don't get me wrong, but is not even close to 1% of what Brazil actually is like. Can you imagine if you guys have only seen Rio and the center of São Paulo? Imagine if that was the idea you would have about our country. And that's what most gringos do.

There's so many beautiful hidden places here but most are not advertised to foreigners or even most brazilians, our tourism is weak and they should invest more because you got an option for everybody if you are more adventurous you can visit the Natural jacuzzis in Monte Roraima, Abismo in Mato grosso or go to Chapada diamantina in Bahia . If you like small towns you can go to Pirenópolis in Goiás, Paraty in Rio, Ouro preto in Minas Gerais, Olinda in Pernambuco, Guaraminga in Ceará, Canela and Gramado in Rio Grande do sul, Monte verde and Tiradentes in Minas. If you like beaches there's infinite options I haven't even been able to go to all of the beaches here in northeast there's so many that are not advertised like Caraiva, Trancoso, Lençóis maranhenses, Maragogi, Noronha, Sonho verde, Icapui (Selena Gomez filmed one of her latest MV here Baila comigo I still haven't been there yet). You also got beaches in other regions like you guys showed Buzios and Arraial that foreigners don't know. The north also deserves to receive more attention most brazilians don't consider visiting there, I've worked for a few tourist companies and there's not much investments, is a waste of potential.

I think the "Brazilian Caribbean" would be between Alagoas and Pernambuco states (northeast of Brazil). The beaches, the wind and the temperature of the water are just incredible. Search for: 1) Praia dos Carneiros 2) Maragogi 3) Porto de Galinhas 4) Fernando de Noronha (Island) *Actually, I would say that Brazilians generally prefer northeast beaches for tourism than southeast, because of the water temperature and also because the laid-back culture is amazing.

The vendor probably assumed you were from argentina since the majority of turists at that beach are from Argentina. If you go to Ferradurinha, Geriba (actually these are great locations to see sea turtles- just rent googles) most turists are from the city of Rio. Try to go to “porto da barra” while you are at buzios. There is a small boteco at the pier front (called “bar do gordo”) that serves a greeeeat dish called “casquinha de peixe” its my favorite place in all buzios (great for sunsets). They also have great “pastel”. Its a popular place and they close right after sunset and last time I went they only took cash. The restaurant that you guys went - mestre david - its also one of my favorites. Everything there is great but they have a oven baked fish covered with catupiry cheese and mashed potato that is my favorite.
