Fortunately, it is nearly impossible to detonate a nuke. A large series of events have to happen perfectly and in perfect timing for an actual nuclear detonation to take place. Some of the early models of US and British nukes were a bit, uh, risky but they were retired as soon as the new tech came along. We are safe from an unintended detonation. The second example and recovery of the bomb has interesting story. On the maps you can see the bomb landed on the farm field but area where it landed is covered by wilderness today. It's because army bought this small part of land from farmer and it belongs to them to this day.

IMO, whilst not a bomb, it’s also worth noting the plutonium from Apollo 13. The Apollo missions were mainly intended to beat the soviets to the moon for political reasons, but the NASA scientists were able to sneak some scientific equipment onto them too. One of the main power sources for these experiments was an RTG, a radioisotope thermoelectric generator. Basically, an RTG uses a few hundred grams of a highly radioactive material (like plutonium) to generate heat, which is then converted into electricity. They’re useful for deep space missions because they can operate continuously for decades, only limited by the radioactive half life of whatever isotope they’re using. Famously, the Apollo 13 mission failed to get to the moon. So instead of leaving the RTG on the moon like the other Apollo missions, when they made it back to earth they just let it re enter the atmosphere. Importantly, it was designed to be able to survive such an event, just in case of some failure (they didn’t want it to spread the plutonium into the atmosphere, even though the health effects of that would have been pretty minimal, it would’ve been terrible for politics). So, the Apollo 13 RTG that was intended for the surface of the moon safely it through the earth’s atmosphere, and splashed down in the ocean. It’s thought that it now sits at the bottom of the Tonga trench. The plutonium would have decayed significantly, but there’s still a fair amount left, and there’s no sign of the RTG rupturing and spreading radiation into the sea water. So, who knows, maybe to this day there are blind deep sea creatures snuggled up to the mysterious warm death cylinder. Let’s just hope that none of them are Godzilla.

Nukes require a heck of a lot of Maintenace to keep functional, also there is what is akin to a car ignition system on it to make it fire correctly, if this system does not work and work correctly, you have a dirty bomb, or just a dude that glows in the dark. If they are actually lost, they will start leaking radiation (the nature of radio actives). These means if you want to find it you can.

Just by heat you cant detonate a nuke just like conventional bomb. Heat is need for detonation but it isnt the only factor required . The detonation of a nuclear weapon requires a highly specific and controlled set of conditions, including the precise timing, geometry, and critical mass

The incident that happened on Greenland has a lot of loose threads. One being that the Journalist whom uncovered this, died 10 years later, still investigating. The anti-nuclear policy forbids nuclear tech on Danish soil. The U.S. was actually given permission by the Danish government, or more likely agreed that the U.S. should establish their air bases in a place called Thule in the 50's. (to counter Russia). If you look at this area from google earth, it speaks volumes. Also, after the crash, just one week after, the local population living on the coastal area closest to the crash site was diagnosed with cancer during a local response to many dying and thowing up,- cancer was not seen much in their culture prior.. As a means to "aid" the sick, and the victims of forced evictions, supply planes carried tons of strong liqour to spread. Then when many of them couldn't return to their homes, asylum was given to them in Denmark. But much later. But once they arrived they were probably expected to settle and become abiding citizens. Unfortunatly because the habit of alcohol was the only comfort, the generations extending to today are in many ways lost. Some make it and manages, a lot don't. A shelf company named Vectrus took over the "cleanup", but even after it became apperant the whole ordeal had made it to the highest court in the U.S. 2 or 3 times, it has been more or less disregarded and left to this "company". I don't know what scares me the most, people who can do these things, or the people that still believe in their government.

So, for most of these the nuclear material in the core is garuanteed to have decayed to the point where even if the implosion charges sourrounding the the nuclear material itself went off, it would not cause a chain reaction in the material as too much has become "innert" or well, more stable elements. Would still leave nasty debris, but relatively tiny boom compared to if the chain reaction was triggered. TL;DR: most of these are "harmless" today.
