In this video, I dive into a little bit more about Mordheim. After being inspired by the last video, I thought I'd chat about some ways to find the best alternative Mordheim miniatures on the market.

An Underworlds Witch Hunters Warband ("Hexbane's Hunters") was released after this video, and it's basically also a Mordheim core crew (a Witch Hunter, 3 soldiers and 2 dogs. Just get the Flagellants box to go with them - done!)

This was a great intro to playing Mordheim today. I hope GW don’t bring it back as they will ruin the game and milk it for every penny they can make from it. I’d rather play old games through a supportive community.

Nothing says you're forced to play a new edition just because GW release one.

​@@gamerman782that's true, but the player base gets split and there's already few enough mordheim players, look at what happened with Necromunda, good luck finding people wanting to play the 1995 game

Great Content thank you. Mordheim is still an outstanding skirmish game I have been playing for years, and without being too nostalgic comes from the Golden age of GW game design. My advice for starting a Mordhiem warband is to start with that warbands story and then go from there, don't just pick cool mini's, think of a cool backstory for your warband members then create the model to fit. Mordheim is I believe a very narrative led skirmish game. My saddest Mordhiem moment was having to burn out the eye of my best archer with a hot pin after he took a very unfortunate role on the damage table.

Certainly. A story and narrative is the best place to begin. Pick characters you care about and want to keep alive, not just what's best tactically!

By far the best box for a human mercenaries faction is Wargames Atlantic Conquistors. It's £25 for a box of 24 hard plastic miniatures which come with options for rifles, crossbows, swords, sheilds, spears, halberd and great swords. The figures also have a range of armour sculpted on, so you can give a captain heavy armour and a helmet and a Youngblood some light leathers.... I strongly recommend it.... I I'm also stunned you didn't include the frostgrave cultists box set for obvious reasons.

The firearms are muskets or arquebuses rather than rifles, but I imagine they could still fire a silver bullet. Cavalry are coming soon.

Was going to try to get a group of friends into Mordheim and thanks to you I feel alot more informed in how to gather up a few warbands! One thing I can't stand though is how the newer games workshop models always have some kind of extra base on the bottom of the miniature. They make the model clunkier especially for games like Mordheim.

I picked up the skaven first season underworlds pack this week as it is being rotated out. No plans to do anything with them right now but figured they are worth having the the kitbash pile. They are getting rid of all the first season warbands so worth picking any up now. Some really good recommendations there for alt minis. Dunkeldorf range is just wonderful

I think the brand Froatgrave has some good ones mainly; Frostgrave version 2: Knights Frostgrave Ghost Archipelago Crewmen Frostgrave Soldiers Frostgrave Soldiers II All these kits together on Amazon ring upto $119.00 for me gotta love states with no tax along with free shipping. Lol, lmao. All of them are 28mm and are fairly cheap which is great tbh for beginners I plan on pick them up for mercenaries along with the rattlebone Skeletons I believe they would work in Mordheim, what do you think??

I totally agree - the Frostgrave kits are fantastic value for money and certainly offer up a great way to get your hands on a bunch of plastic kits to bash together. They don't quite fit the aesthetic I personally like for Mordheim BUT I do agree that they can be used to make some excellent warbands pretty darn cheaply!

That is true - but used in conjunction with a lot of the more modern AoS model they should be pretty good!

Have to find a copy of Mordheim first. From that Era I have most everything else. Advanced Heroquest, Dark Future, Space Hulk, Blood Bowl, Space Crusade, Mutant Chronicles, WHFB, WHFRP, 40K.

the underworlds n warcry stuff ( could also be good) any suggestions for a beasts of chaos warband as you need beastlord, shaman, bestigors, gors, ungors, warhounds, centigor , and minotaur ( got the underworlds beasts gang already)

Oooh Beastmen is a tough one. There are a couple of heroes from Avatars Of War avatars-of-war.com/sh/en/73-metal-resin-heroes?q=Race+%5C/+Faction-Beastmen but beyond that it's quite tough as no one is really doing alternatives for them. You could go with Gnolls from Frostgrave if you don't mind the different look - maybe take the plastic kit and then use regular GW Beastmen heads? www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=195&cat=545&page=1

Check out Wizkid miniature also, these are designed for DnD but I am sure that it will fit mordheim.

Silly question. Is it fine to play Mordheim with round bases? Against war bands that have square ones?

It would effect a few things regarding movement and such but if you've got an opponent who doesn't mind, it shouldn't be a massive problem.

I think taitor guard might be a good base to convert witch hunters. Wargames foundry sell some old 80s empire mercenaries that Ansell kept the rights to after the management buy out.

I'm just getting back into Mordheim and remembered I brought the Dungeons and Lasers Townsfolk box 1 for £42 it has 62 miniatures in it and about 17-20 different miniatures could easy make your human warband the only thing you would really need is an Ogre. They have a lot of detail but unlike GW now are not over the top with it so I'd say look them up they are well worth the price

I can give a update the instruction are online and it took me about 6 hours over 3 days to put every mini together ( 62 ). My favorite has to be Tommy the ghost npc a kid running around under a sheet with eyes cut out playing at being a ghost mold line not many, A mix of male & female char's & guards.The only one I wasn't a fan of was a mounted guard where you have to glue the legs to the horse. Other than that I'd buy again I hope this helps some one.

An unofficial Chaos Dwarf warband was made by the community. I've not played it myself so I don't know how powerful it is. But, you could give it a go. Or, use the official Dwarf Treasure Hunters and theme them as Chaos Dwarves (same for Cult Of The Possessed) - Rules can be found here broheim.net/warbands.html

Mordheim is something I can really get into. I'd love to start by building two warbands and a bada$$ terrain board... host games at my house. Can someone recommend two warbands that would be well-balanced against each other?

If I were to choose two, I'd simply go for one of the State warbands. So, Reikland, Middenheim or Marienburg. They are your standard humans but have a lot of ways to take them in different directions. I'd then pit them against the second warband being Skaven. A really fun warband to play with and should be great for newcomers to pick up and play. Of course, the other part of me wants you to choose Witch Hunters and Cult Of The Possessed for the narrative elements but I think one of the Empire factions and Skaven would be the way to go.

I didn’t notice Knucklebones Miniatures on your list. They have a witch hunter figure holding a severed head of what I must assume to be a witch, who presumably was not expressing love at the moment of her demise, though I suppose it’s possible.

Thanks. I have the mini in question - and some others from that creator - which I’ve only just attached to a base. They’re full of character and I definitely plan on getting more. Unfortunately they’re now only available from My Mini Factory or Only Games (in ready-printed form) as the creator revoked the third-party licences last year.
