It’s fun seeing someone delve into this hobby, because it’s a great time. Brick and mortar stores that offer fountain pens and inks are rare, but I’m finding that with the resurgence of the hobby in the last ten years or so, more are popping up. By the way, Kaweco is a German company (and they’re beloved by the fountain pen community) that pronounces their name “kuh-VEH-ko.” If you’re ever in Asheville, North Carolina, I can highly recommend Origami Ink. It is a store dedicated to fountain pens, ink, and stationary, and the owners are very sweet people. Appelboom has a small location in Boston with a decent selection. Those are the only two stores I’ve ever visited.

Fahrney’s in DC is great! I just bought a pen from them last week. They have nothing but pens ink paper etc. great staff. Best place for pens in NOVA.

Thanks for the tip. I plan on visiting them shortly. When I do, I post the clips I captured at Bertram's Inkwell in Rockville along with it. They have some good stuff at that shop. I purchased blue, orange and green ink in a bottle. I love all the colors I selected. The next purchase for me will be a water proof dark blue or blue/black ink for my daily journaling. Color ink is cool but I mainly like the fill my journal with my thoughts.

@@AskAWalker I am just getting into fountain pens. They always seemed a hassle before so I stuck with roller balls. Right now I have a Sciveiner and I’m using the Mont Blanc mystery black.

If you are willing to travel to DC, you will find Fahrney's Pens (F Street downtown), which carries all of the major brands both domestic and international, and Jenni Bick (Connecticut Avenue, near Dupont Circle), which carries some Japanese brands and Kaweco, not to mention all kinds of notebooks and papers. In Northern VA, you can also find Montblanc inks and fountain pens (albeit pricey) at the Montblanc boutique inside the Tyson's Galleria mall in McLean Penny Post is great too, of course. Too bad that the Colorado Pen Copany in Tyson's closed some years ago, and Bertram's Inkwell in Rockville, Maryland.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm planning on swinging by Fahrney's next. I added 5 pens to my collection in less than 3 weeks to try and understand what I like. The clear winner at the moment is a $20 pen from Amazon by Picasso 916. It's a Medium Nib that writes incredibly smooth. Here's the link to the pen: askaw.us/3VeiakX My next favorite is my TWSBI Diamond 580 ALR in Black that I picked up from Penny Post last week. For some reason, that pen feels so good in my hand and I love watching the ink slosh around. I'm pretty sure I'm going to purchase another TWSBI Diamon 580 ALR so I can have one in my office and at the house.

@@AskAWalker I have a lot of pens that I like, but if i could only keep two, they would be my Montblanc 149 and the Pilot Custom 823. The LAmy 2K is a good daily user, and the Pilot Vanishing Point. Pelikans, Kawecos, Sailors go in and out of rotation. The Aurora 88 from Italy is gorgeous and writes well but I haven’t used mine in years.

@@AskAWalker oh, and ink. I'm pretty boring. Montblanc Royal Blue mostly. I do like Diamine Oxblood. Pilot and Sailor blues are in my collection too. Enjoy Farhney's! I grew up in DC and have been going there since childhood.

Thanks 🧡 for the recommendations. TWSBI Diamond 580 ALR with a medium nib ✒ is my favorite pen + nib combo. I'm currently in love with a blue ink by Private Reserve Ink called Minutes to Midnight. I'm still looking for water-resistant blue ink that's similar to the blue ink from my pilot g2 1.0 mm cartridges. Do you have any suggestions?
