Having been throughout both cities, Lafayette is a much safer place to live and has plenty of things to do. Traffic is much better, fewer homeless, less crime and you can get to anything in about 15 minutes. There have been many times I felt like I was in danger in Baton Rouge. I’ve never felt that way in Lafayette and lived there for 6 years.

I like the Creole Cuisine in Lafayette but Baton Rouge has a more vibrant night life. I hate the traffic in both cities. In Baton Rouge it's usually backed on I-10, near Port Allen and in Lafayette, the lights sit on red way too long and they do not have a freeway to bypass the traffic. They've also gotten rid of the turning lane on N. University Ave, causing unnecessary traffic jams.

When comparing Baton Rouge to Lafayette, life as a single adult living in Downtown East Baton Rouge offers some distinct pros. Baton Rouge has excellent parks, with BREC maintaining superior facilities across the parish. College football and tailgating at Southern University and LSU home games are 🔥. LSU baseball is also a must-see event for baseball fans, offering one of the best college baseball experiences in the country. Additionally, with New Orleans only an hour away, Baton Rouge residents are within easy reach of attending New Orleans Saints NFL games and NBA Pelicans games. Neighborhoods like Southdowns, the Garden District, Hundred Oaks, and Old Goodwood are some of the most desirable in the city proper. Metro Baton Rouge communities-Zachary, Baker, Central, Denham Springs, Walker, Addis, Prairieville, Gonzales, Brusly, and now St. George-are family-centered. The food scene in Baton Rouge is always evolving, with new restaurants frequently popping up. National chains often choose Metro Baton Rouge as their first location in the state. The grocery scene is also expanding with multiple Aldi locations, Trader Joe's, Sprouts, and Whole Foods, alongside local favorites like Rouses and Matherne's, which are consistent hits or premier stores. Shopping is sufficient for fashion and lifestyle needs at The Mall of Louisiana, Perkins Rowe, Town Center at Cedar Lodge, Juban Crossing, and Tanger Outlets. Luxury shopping at Lakeside Mall and Canal Place in New Orleans is just over an hour's drive from Baton Rouge. The capital region is also becoming more liberal, with active queer communities and lifestyles. The LSU Lakes and City Park are being redeveloped into refreshed recreational destinations in the heart of the city. However, there are some cons. Mass transit in Baton Rouge could be improved, traffic is a nightmare, and the airport has too few direct connections to other cities.

I been away from home for 15 years. Eventually, Ill move back. Lafayette definitely has a place in the heart. It has grown alot but not quite there yet.

I live in Baton Rouge, but am moving to St George soon. I prefer the city and the people of Lafayette a lot more than Baton Rouge. The only convenience in Baton Rouge is that you are an hour away from New Orleans.

I’ve lived in Scot and a few other in south Louisiana. I prefer the north like West Monroe area where I’m at now lot better to raise your children and more rule, country slower area

I lived in both - Lafayette is more fun, safer, and has better food and better roads...but now I live in Mandeville on the North Shore... also, Baton Rouge separating into 2 parts....people with money are tiered off their taxes are not going where they need to go to.

Baton rouge to much hoods and traffic.Better stay around mall of louisiana area.North baton rouge too dangerous.South baton rouge to South lafayette near ambassdor and kaliste saloom safe and nice.
