If you're ice fishing, lake trout can often be found in deeper holes or along underwater structures. Drill test holes and use a sonar to locate them. Remember that successful lake trout fishing often involves a combination of knowledge about the specific lake, understanding the behavior of lake trout, and adapting your approach based on current conditions. Always check local fishing regulations and obtain any necessary permits before heading out on the water.

@@ClaytonSchickOutdoors Trust me Clayton. I look at the master angler awards for Michigan every year, and while I know that not nearly every one who catches a master angler fish submits it, Torch Lake doesn't even make the list every year for lake trout. Also, the requirement for master angler for lake trout in Michigan is 36". I have only seen a couple 40-42" fish listed for Torch Lake in the last decade. Not saying there aren't plenty of 40"+ in there, but I doubt there are any 50"+ swimming around.

I torture my self when I'm icing for Lakers. I never use a hut. I never stay in one spot for very long unless I'm marking big fish consistently. I'll drill 30 holes in a day sometimes. I also rarely fish deeper than 60 FOW, seems like where I fish it's all juveniles in the deeper water. If it was legal to chum where I live I would likely use my flip over more often. But since we can't chum I have to go looking for them not vice versa. Good tips and solid 39in. Fish!
