@TheSolarium18Күн бұрын
@ yeah that’s how I became a fantasy fan from a young age and it is a pretty good sequence to get into magic. Honestly I am pretty disappointed that you haven’t mentioned Earthsea since till today I think it’s the best and most intelligent magic system in any fantasy literation. And I apply it in headcanon to any other universe where it’s not explained since it fits very well into Middle Earth concerning the Ainulindale where a song creates the world is basically forming reality with the real words of things. Or better said coding the world. Or Harry Potter using magic words but never get into it or how it works. etc Also I was really disappointed with every other fantasy literature than them Many had really good character writing, some had great concepts or ideas, some had interesting plot twists but none felt so natural and real like those books and btw I really dislike Dune for various reasons but very much that a lot of its lore doesn’t make much sense or is really thought through to a point I can accept it Edit: I like the witcher universe in the Witcher games but I don’t like the books and writing that much and I really think the games refined them in many aspects and I adore the Darksouls lore. Pretty sad that games feature better worldbuilding than some widely known fantasy books

Nice list and good presentation. Subbed. I've read almost all of these. The two I struggle with are Dune and Abercrombie. With Dune it is the writing style... I have tried many times and just doesn't speak to me (and I love sci-fi). With Abercrombie... besides Glotka (who I thought was really interesting)... I found the rest a bit silly and blah. LOTR, Elderlings, Faithful and Fallen (esp middle 2 books), Percy J and Olympians, WOT, H Potter, Thrown of Glass (ignoring a few books), GOT, Shannara, Red Rising would be my order. Sanderson very overrated and boringly simple writing. Ice & Fire will never be finished so be aware of thdt before you start, and with GRRM's arrogance I don't hold out much hope fir avdecent book if he does finish. Not a fan of his. Theres a lot more to find out about LotR and tge universe behind it, the most complete universe building you will find. Many people seem to erroneously think that magic=fantasy (and vice versa) which is not true at all. For exampke Gormenghast is one of my favourite fantasy series and doesnt include magic at all.
