The areas around the US Embassy, all sides are also nice as well as the area around the Colegio Internacional, which have traditionally been middle class and high middle class neighborhoods for decades; in addition, Las Mercedes is pretty good as well. The best private schools in Asuncion are the French school, the American school, St. Andrews, certain catholic schools, etc, and these are located in and around these areas. The closest school to the Shopping del Sol is the American School of Asuncion (ASA),

Jara, Las Mercedes, and Marsical Lopez have some nice areas, specifically the ones near Avenida España and Avenida Brasilia, where you can get an airbnb for like 26$ a night. Close to the administrative center and to the business center, and has lots of stores, supermarkets and even some nices cafes and bars (el cafe de acá is also present in Jara)

Where would you recommend more for a 1 week trip to scope out the area (eat some good food and go on some dates): Asuncion or Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia? I've been to Lima about 10 times as well as Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Rio, Medellin and Ecuador.

Best way to resource to find a long term apt besides Airbnb? I'm planning on using Airbnb for the first 2 months, but after that I would be looking for a 6-12 month lease. Any advice on where to find more long term stays would be greatly appreciated!

I agree with you. Around café de Aca is a good area, but if you are someone like me (light sleeper), I recommend staying in another location. I was living 100 meters from the cafe de aca, and it can be pretty noisy.
