I really agree with you on the problem of ILA and some other companies. Unpaid holidays is the same thing of stealing your employees' money in broad daylight. So, as soon as I hear the phrase "unpaid holiday" or "unpaid extra hour" in an interview, I hang up the phone immediately or be more polite I say goodbye then hang up.

They have shared folders at VUS for teacher resources and lesson plans. Also, the 3 hour lessons are only for the higher level students. Everybody Up and below are 2 hours Apollo is a horrible place to work at. Went from Apollo to Apax. They have the most unpaid admin work out of them all. VUS was a great first job because of the workshops but Apax to me is better out of the 3

Hi! My wife and I are planning a move to Vietnam from the US sometime next year. She is originally from Vietnam, but moved to the US when she was 5, so she speaks Vietnamese fluently but can’t really read or write. We were thinking of teaching English but are just wondering what other types of opportunities we might be able to find. What other types of jobs are available to foreigners? She’s an accountant (graduating from a Masters in Business Administration at the end of the year), and I’m an attorney. So both of us have post-university degrees. Do you think schools will care about the fact that we have additional education? Would you recommend waiting and taking a course when we get to Saigon? I’d prefer an in-person course, and I don’t think I can manage that while working full time in the States. I know you said you took a CELTA with Apollo. Any other recommendations? There are so many options! Also, just wanted to throw out that we have a one year old mixed-race son, so I thought it was funny that you said you spent your whole interview talking about that. Would love to hear more about your experience with that since we’ll be living it soon!
@EveHemingway5 жыл бұрын
Hello! If you are looking for none teaching jobs, marketing is a good area for foreigners. I have a few friends who worked for marketing firms with a good salary. But that's as far as my knowledge goes with other jobs. Setting up your own business or real estate is also a good option. As far as your post graduate degrees, you definitely have an advantage as you can have a look into international schools but you will have to complete an additional CELTA for some teaching experience. I personally chose to take the CELTA here rather than at home as working full time and balancing a CELTA would be too much. Also living costs here are a lot lower so it's a lot more affordable to take a month out from work to study. Many people on my course had come over from Japan and Korea to take the CELTA for that reason. You can take a TEFL course and still find a good teaching job but I think that CELTA sets you up to be a good teacher. ILA did offer a full time CELTS course but they stopped earlier this year so as far as I'm aware, Apollo is the only place to take it as a full time in person course (in the south anyway). Aww you have a son too! He will get a lot of attention here from the locals. What's made you decide to come here? Also keep me updated on your journey, I'd love to hear your plans when it comes to moving :)
@wearephamily31875 жыл бұрын
@@EveHemingway My wife and I are looking for a bit of an adventure. We've talked about living abroad since before we got married, but I figure it's probably more affordable to live there now while Arthur is little since we won't have to pay for international school. I would love to try to learn Vietnamese while I'm there too. I've tried to learn it here, but there aren't any classes in our area, and a tutor is sooooo expensive. And of course, all the online resources are Northern, which doesn't really work when my wife's whole family is Southern Vietnamese. My wife will graduate from her MBA program in December, so we can't even plan much until then. But I think we're probably going to move next spring. We are trying to save as much as possible between now and then, so that we can get settled without worrying too much about not having jobs right away. We have two houses, and we are renting one of them now and living in the other. The plan for when we move is to rent them both out, so that should give us a little passive income as well. But we definitely need to get jobs (even just to keep from going crazy). I've always loved languages, so teaching English would be a fun experience for me, but I'd also be interested in teaching other subjects if possible. I know an American lawyer who taught at an English-speaking program in a law school in China for a few years, so maybe there are opportunities like that in Saigon? It's very hard to tell much from thousands of miles away. I'll definitely look more into the CELTA programs. I've joined a thousand Facebook groups and been watching KZbin videos trying to learn as much as I can. I'm so glad I found your channel though because I don't have that much in common with most of the vloggers I've found. Most are young, single and just starting out. So I'd love to hear more about Edward and what it's like having a toddler in Saigon!
