Where Will Kings Island Build Their NEXT Coaster & When?

Kings Island is past due for their next MAJOR roller coaster - and with the Mason, Ohio park opening their new family coaster this year, when can we expect the park to build their next coaster? I share my thoughts on the 3 most likely locations for Kings Island's new roller coaster. I also share with you what year I think we will see it get built. There are so many different types of roller coasters that Kings Island can go with for this project, it really has me intrigued!

We have been discussing this for a while now! We all think that since CF has been working with Vekoma and KI seems to go with the "safe" option, We are leaning towards a Vekoma launch coaster with 6 inversions to pay omage to the Vortex. We were really hoping for an xtreme spinner, but don't think thats happening now unfortunately. Also go with 2026 as the year, with maybe a thrilling flat ride for the 2025 season.

I Agree with it being in 2026 sadly. With the large list of coasters cedar fair has coming in 2025 that practically eats up their whole budget for new coasters so I’d be surprised to see kings island get one as well in 2025.

I would love to see a dive coaster in the vortex plot of land One reason I believe KI has so many B&M coasters is because the pipes for B&M are made in Batavia Ohio BATAVIA is only 40 minutes away from KI

The King Cobra surf coaster was the first thing I thought when I saw Pipeline. King Cobra was the first purpose-built stand up, and Kings Island loves to pay homage to their past. Despite the simple layout, I can't get enough of Pipeline and want more. And Kings Island being right by B&M's facility kills what little hope I have of a non-B&M multi launch coaster.

I said last year that they should put in a motorcycle coaster that crosses over the front entrance and call it the Knievel Koaster in remembrance of Evel and Robbie Knievel for their historic jumps at the park.

The front entrance doesn’t need a revamp. It’s designed to be blocky like that, when you walk in you get entirely immersed into the park. In a way it’s like Disney, the outside walking in is meant to look boring cause it’s the world outside Kings Island. Not every park needs a front gate that has a coaster that interacts with the front gate. It really works at cedar point cause that’s the Roller Coaster capital of the world so it makes sense to have a coaster as the front gate

KI has some of the best operations around I’ve been spoiled living so close to KI. After traveling out of state to other parks you find out real quick that operation times are horrible

With ki being our home park, I was thinking about this last year. Spot on sir! Return of King Cobra as an extreme surf coaster. B&M loves ki and makes the track right up the road. Many fond memories growing up in the 80's riding King Cobra.

I love the idea of a Mack extreme spinner coming to the park. So hard to decide what Kings Island should build next though so I can see why the park is taking their time before they build the next big coaster.

Two possible ideas; with both being put in the old Vortex/Original Bat plot of land: Gerstlauer Infinity with 10 inversions OR new Generation Vekoma launch.

I hope the entrance stays as is! The whole point of the boring sad looking entrance is for a huge surprise and reveal once you walk under those arches! And see a whole colorful world like no other inside! That entrance building was designed to block the outside view so it's as I said! A big reval once your inside! Also if they do build a new entrance coaster, Invertago nwould have to go because its rough as hell, and people are starting not to like it! But I don't see why the supposed new coaster could not just go over the top of Congo Falls,which is still super popular, and which would stay in service! A towering new steel coaster would be so tall and with slim steel pole supports, Congo falls would not even be in the way under it! I think the vortex land plot is more likely, it seems that Kings Island does NOT take down a ride unless they have plans for the land! Unlike other parks in the chain, which will take rides down just because they are worn out! Alsomone more note! King island has a nice courtyard out from of the entrance building, the new coaster could be built in front of the existing entrance building! with the supports built in the grass areas in the middle of the courtyard! Leaving the existing building intact!

I would actually prefer it to go in action zone and create an entire new area of the park with Banshee and The Bat. Action Zone is so outdated now and definitely needs an upgrade.

Yeah, the action zone needs something to fill the void between Banshee and the Bat. In fact, the Bat really needs replaced, and the station flipped to the side closer to the Banshee.

If you look at the front gate phase 1 work going on at Canada's wonderland, the reworked it to where they get that coaster interaction with guests entering the park. And this is usually phase 1 of that project. I can see kings island being next for a new front gate or renovation.

B&M's patent was for sit-down seats and stand-up seats that articulate up and down. Something like Mako but with ejector seats to extend the airtime would be insane. I wonder if those trains could be adapted to fit on hyper coasters.

Whatever goes in the Vortex plot would have to fit the theme of Coney Mall, meaning it probably would have to be a more old fashioned coaster.

I feel like that is where the park's next major new area is going to be. If they are serious about expanding, and adding future areas for new rides, then why not connect the dead ends of the park. Build a new pathway from Bat to Orion, stick a new coaster and a few flats there. The park is busy enough that I don't see it as completely out of the question to expand.

I have heard there is a restaurant or banquet hall on the second floor of the entrance building. If so, how much is it used? That may be a major reason why they haven’t modernized the entrance yet. I’m not sure about that, just speculating.

I think it is time for a coaster going near the entrance of KI, but do not touch the entrance building, you can update it by making it more colorful, like other's have said, it's built that way to build suspense. I like the idea of keeping Congo Falls and having the coaster go over it, that would be awesome! The Vortex plot will probably sit there awhile longer, Action Zone needs a new coaster, and this would be perfect a new King Cobra Pipeline surf coaster going around the entrance, it would pump everyone up to having a great day at the park! I can see this in 2026 or 2027. Can't wait to see KI's new coaster SSBR the parks 16th!

If I decided to become the new president of Cedar Fair (once the merger with Six Flags is complete), here’s the two plots of land that Kings Island could build their next major coaster: 1. The old Vortex plot of land - This makes a lot of sense, because as you said, it’s wide open and already cleared. All the chain has to do is basically build a coaster from the ground up. Also, they wouldn’t have to remove any attractions to make way for it. Now, as for the coaster type, I’d go for a Vekoma Tilt Coaster. 2. The area where Invertigo and Congo Falls are located - Most people can agree that these attractions are on their last legs. With the removal of these attractions, it’ll freed up for a new coaster that interacts with a new front entrance (similar to Gatekeeper at Cedar Point). I think it would make sense to build a new B&M Surf Coaster (similar to Pipeline at SeaWorld Orlando), which would also bring back their former King Cobra coaster in a whole new way!

As much as I want KI to get a new coaster in 2025, I just don’t see it financially. Carowinds is getting their expansion, Knotts is getting the Montezooma refurb, plus KD and Wonderland getting thrill coasters. If they go with Zamperla for Wonderland I could see them saving enough money to throw a small-scale thrill coaster to ValleyFair. I’m betting on a multi-launch in the Vortex plot in 2026 and a B&M (hopefully) hyper dive in Action Zone with a revamp in 2028-29.

Kings Island is such an interesting case because they have no on the track traditional loopers. That sounds like a nitpick but that would make them the only park in the new Six flags chain without an on the track traditional looper. They need something like a Gersluar Infinity something with 10 inversions would be great and then they could get a modern luanch coaster or flyer or Hybrid.

i really think the next coaster will be in the area of action zone. if ou go at night usually thepark is packed around beast/diamondback/mystic timbers. they really need to get something at the front of the park to even out the crowds.

I go 1-2 times a week. I personally think KI has enough family coasters! The 200ft tall dive coaster or a quick and punch RMC I believe would elevate the lineup. Would really love to see them get both at some point. My hopes for KI’s future is for them to eventually build an RMC, Dive, and Wing coaster. If we had those three added, it would make it the perfect family/coaster enthusiast park. I mean as far as big coasters go we really only have Invertigo, Banshee, Diamondback and Orion. Invertigo still being under 150ft. I believe we only have 3 that go above 150ft. I want to have a couple more personally. I do think the bat is fun, but the other day I was thinking they could completely remake the bat as the Bat 2 and that would make a great location and theme for a dive or wing coaster. I think if they tasked RMC to build the Son of Beast: Undead, they could make a crazy ride to pay homage to the Beast and old Son of Beast. They could also do cool theming at the banshee like the Son of Beast dug itself out of the grave and breaking the Son of Beast tombstone. They could make a new name or even reuse the Firehawk name for the last dive or Xwing coaster. Just my thoughts on what I think would be really cool to see. A lot of money, I just dream the keep going big. A lot of family friendly coasters in the line up, need more thrills.

I think a Mack Spinner is the best fit for vortex land. There is not a ride like this in the area and it fits the multi launch ticket.

Great video as always. I personally think that the Mack Extreme Spinner will eventually go to Cedar Point. They are all about breaking records and being at the top of coaster lists. Being that “Ride to Happiness” is at the top of many enthusiast’s lists, this will likely be the next thrill coaster at Cedar Point. That being said, I think that you are right that the biggest hole in the lineup at Kings Island is a multi launch. I could see them using the Son of Beast station and that huge piece of land to do this. I could also see them building a Vekoma Tilt Coaster. I don’t see them building a B & M Dive Coaster because Cedar Point is so close. However, the tilt coaster is a similar coaster by way of holding the train and the feeling of anticipation for the GP in a different way.

Even though Canada's Wonderland is my home park, King's Island is still one of my favourites. A Mack Spinner or multi launch Vekoma would be a welcome addition there. Just FYI, I've heard rumours that the B&M flyer that CW was maybe going to be getting, is the one KD will now be receiving. Zamperla, Intamin, Premier or Vekoma are ones I've been hearing are much more likely contenders for the 2025 coaster. Bring it on, if it's true, as we don't need any more reliable, but boring B&M's at CW.

I think with this family coaster.. a Vekoma looper or multi launch is a higher probability than Mack.. though a non-controlled spin Mack extreme spinner would be one of my pipe dreams. But I think what KI is overdue with (and we've slowly been getting closer) is a coaster than finally has a 90° drop or beyond 90°! CP has had several for many years now that it's not even a marketable thing.. Kings island however... we've never had this! And it was weird that Orion is a mere 5° away from that & marketing didnt ever mention it. Mack or Vekoma that includes launches and/ or a 90° drop? Sign me up 😅

I've always thought the vortex plot could be a entry way to a new area that extends back past orion and the beast, with multiple rides and shops being installed over a 5 to 10 yr period, im not talking a smaller area like area 72, but a bigger expansion that takes up as much room as lets say Dollywood's Wildwood grove takes up, at least thats what i think its called

My thinking is that the Bat would next to go. While I agree and could see them redoing the entrance area and taking out Invertigo along with Congo. Taking a step back, any ideas as to why CF ditch the boomerang at Dorney in such a short amount of time? So perhaps invertigo days are numbered. Interested in hearing anyone’s take.

Bit random, but it just popped into my head. Banshee is the spiritual successor to The Orient Express at WoF, cedar fair just built it in the wrong park. Banshees layout makes more sense as a replacement for The OE than the Patriot does at least. Now that I've gotten that out of my head, I bet Kings Island gets a pipe line coaster, OR, I think post Six Flags-Cedar Fair merger, Cedar Point goes for the worlds largest tilt coaster (spiritual successor to demon drop) and gives Kings Island something more like Fonix from Vekoma to replace Vortex. Because I think Vekoma will be a bigger part of the chains post merger.

Kings Island needs a multi loop rollercoaster to replace Vortex. I do like the Pipeline Surfcoaster/King Cobra idea too. To be honest I really think another B and M is highly likely. Which is fine, I love them. Also people are fond of the idea of King Cobra, because of the name. That ride was miserable to ride…not that the helix wasn’t dope. The helix was great.

I still hope their next coaster is a Vekoma thrill coaster in the old Vortex plot of land with a bat wing next to the walk way to pay homage to vortex. So my friend worked at King's Island. He was told that the vortex plot of land probably isn't usable because that plot of land is sinking and unstable and apparently this was one of the multiple reasons they tore down Vortex. Is anyone else aware or know of this information?

I can put the Son of the station theory to rest. I have inside information that says that there is a new witchcraft or swamp type haunt attraction going in there this year I work in rides and as a scare actor, and I was working as a scare actor, our entire team found, tons of different witchcraft items all over storage that had never been used before. Dive coaster would be an awful decision. There's too much space there to go with a compact ride design. Need something that will utilize the space and you can put the dive coaster at the front of the part to replace Inveritgo.

Energylandia was supposed to get a Vekoma Tilt coaster, but that project was canceled recently. What if Six Flags (the soon to be owner of Kings Island) bought that project, sent it to Kings Island, and had them build it on the former Vortex land or the remaining Son of Beast space not occupied by Banshee (depending on what the layout of that coaster would've been).

Six Flags isn't the owner or soon to be owner. Its a merger using the Six Flags name but Cedar Fair will have the most say on what goes on. One park cancelling a project has zero to do with another park especially one that isn't on the same continent or part of the same chain.

2026: Vortex replacement. 2029: Son of Beast themed new coaster in action zone. The Vortex spot is a big whole in prime real estate in the park, and won't require much more demolition. 2029 is the Beast's 50th birthday. Bringing back the Son of Beast would be great marketing. Best coaster for the Vortex spot would be Extreme Spinner or launched Vekoma Flyer.
