After living in both Malaysia and Turkey (Türkiye) for one year, we thought we should share what it's like living in these two spectacular countries. We'll compare the similarities, the differences, the pros, and the cons for living in both Malaysia and Turkey to help you decide which you would prefer. We think both Malaysia and Turkey are fabulous places to live, retire, or become an expat. But which would you prefer, Turkey or Malaysia?

im a Malaysian student in Turkey, staying more than 4 years. unfortunately things i heard before i come to Turkey were beautiful but once i live here they are the opposite not all of them are beautiful. i got treated badly by the system (university, immigration, etc.), suffer severe racism and many more that i ended up got anxiety and depression (had to take medicine + met psychiatric and psychologist). i came with a big smile and im leaving for good in few weeks with a sorrow face. but in my few weeks remaining time i plan to travel around Turkey for my last time, hope i'll find something that could make me smile again and feel like the first time i landed here :)

I'm Malaysian had lived in the UK for about 5 yrs and been to several Western Europe countries and Turkiye once. All I can say is your categorical comments on both countries are fair and I have no reason to think otherwise. As per the question posed on this video I have this opinion: Except for the five daily adzan from many mosques Turkiye is very much similar to other European countries in terms of history, climate, architecture and landscapes, on the other hand Malaysia is very much Asian in those terms, so the slogan "Malaysia is truly Asian." Being a predominantly Muslim country, Malaysia also has the same five daily adzan as Turkiye. So, since the cost of living in the two countries are comparable, for people from four season countries the questions are boiled down to just one, i.e., if you want to experience living in tropical country Malaysia is the obvious choice while Turkiye gives you the experience of living in moderate Muslim country with European atmosphere.

Malaysia wins hands down. Vegetarians and vegans will be hard pressed to find a vegetarian restaurant in Turkey, whereas in Malaysia they can be found everywhere. Almost everyone speaks English in Malaysia; not so in Turkey. Shopping is a pleasure in Malaysia with its ultra modern malls. Malaysia is a food paradise; visitors come from all over the world just to sample its cuisine. Turkey’s food is just meat, meat and more meat. The climate in Malaysia is not much of a problem, as most buildings and public transport are fully air conditioned. What more do you want ? Visit Malaysia- you will fall in love with it.😊

Great video! We've been staying in Turkey for 3 years and now consider Malaysia as the next stop. The immigration policy in Turkey has become much stricter over the past two years and the economy hasn't been doing well either - costs for accommodation jumped 3-4 times in popular cities like Istanbul and Antalya so I guess right now Turkey might be significantly more expensive than Malaysia depending on the city. Still, we love Turkey a lot and are very grateful for its hospitality, great people and amazing places.

I would definitely choose Malaysia, 100%, but their current visa policy makes it literally impossible to go and live there, even with big savings, and in Malaysia you also have cold weather, in the highlands. (I think a lot of people from China and North America have realized what a good and cheap country Malaysia is and the government has made those visa measures impossible). You can think then go to Philippines Thailand or Indonesia, they have similar conditions, yes but not... In those countries they dont have highlands

They do hv high allevation places like sapa in Vietnam, or near chiangmai Thailand while in Philippines or Indonesia likely it is a volcano or former volcano like lake toba. Bandung probably is the place with cooler weather in java. Philippines has the rice terrace areas. In Malaysia, our hill stations are well built like Cameron Highlands, genting Highlands, fraser's Hill, penang Hill.

Hey guys! Great video! I’m wondering about your take on buying property in Malaysia vs. Turkey as foreigners (with no residency). Do you have an idea?
@snailtravelers
@snailtravelers Жыл бұрын
Hey guys! Thanks for watching the video! We enjoy following your adventures around the world too! You guys have so much enthusiasm, and congrats on having such a successful channel. Maybe our travel paths will cross someday. We originally planned to get MM2H in Malaysia. We applied and were just waiting for one more document and then the program shut down. When the program restarted the new financial requirements were too high for us. Sarawak's MM2H is easier but still a bit high for us. That's why we then considered Turkey. We had no plans to buy property in either Malaysia or Turkey. We were going to rent. We had a few places ready to consider for renting in Turkey, then the government changed the immigration rules, making it more difficult to get residency if renting and easier if purchasing. So we started looking at purchasing, found an apartment in Izmir we liked at a reasonable price, and we made the purchase. The immigration rules have since changed again, and now there is a minimum value of US$75,000 if getting residency through property purchase. We're glad we made our purchase before the new rule, otherwise we wouldn't qualify. Also, prices have really gone up in Turkey over the last year, partly because of high inflation and also because a lot of people from Russia have come to Turkey. Prices in some places have more than doubled in one year. We looked into prices in Kuching (loved your Sarawak videos by the way), and prices for property are higher there than Turkey, even with all of the inflation in Turkey. We found a studio in a new building in Kuching was around US$75,000 and up. But I believe foreigners are required to spend at least RM500,000 in Sarawak, and the minimum is even higher elsewhere in Malaysia like RM1,000,000, but I'm not 100% sure about that. It could be difficult to buy property in Turkey without residency because we needed to show our residency permit to set up the electricity, water, internet, etc. There must be a way to do it because people have vacation homes in Turkey without residency, but we don't know how it works. Hope that helps.

@@snailtravelers thanks, guys! We want to start this new adventure of buying a property. Not necessarily for us to live, but mainly for a BnB, where we can also crash whenever we are there. Just trying to see where is the best possible place for us.

Excellent video indeed, yet prices now are extremely high, very high rates of violence and racism: most non-chain restaurants secretly have 2 menus, one for locals and another one for foreigners that have completely different prices. Apartment rentals in Turkey have gone at least double, and there is a major crisis now with landlords wanting to evict tenants at the end of the year lease, unless tgey are will to pay a rediculously 60%+ higher rent. In turkey, apartment buildings charge very high monthly service charges/management fee starting at 1,600 TL despite having not facilities such as pools and gym. Those with such facilities charge anywhere between 3,000 tl and up based on the apartment size. The real unfair catch here is that "Tenants" pay for these rediculously high monthly fees. I ve been here for a couple of years and totally ready to relocate to a country where foreign nationals aren't discriminated against. Finally, you would rarely ever find someone to speak English in Turkey, while in Malaysia, almost everyone speaks English and signs are also in English, not in Turkey. I dont advice living in turkey now under these extremely hard circumstances. Good luck

I got dengue fever & malaria in Indonesia & rec'd very good medical treatment. I agree with you about public transportation & other issues comparing the US. If you have the resources and do not need to work, these are great alternatives to retirement but nothing beats the US for jobs(even if older). I applaud you both for learning a new language at your stage of life. I tried Chinese in Singapore & failed miserably, so for me, Malaysia or Indonesia will be my choice and wish the immigration requirements were different. Australia would have been a better option, as the people don't seem as stressed(probably due to population and social net). Love the protection of animals in TurkeyWhat about street people?

Malaysian here and my husband is Turkish. I wish to add some points of my view about this video. 1- The comparisons for transportation and security cant be tie between Turkey and Malaysia but Turkey is way better! Except KL, public transportation between the regions of city centres (i mean Bus, minibus, subway, metro and also ferries etc not only taxi or grab) and is almost zero in Malaysia. I have to be honest that these services are so reachable, have more webs or links and cheaper in every part of Turkey. Except Istanbul there is not much traffic problems there, either. 2- Security is more developed and reachable in Turkey rather than here Malaysia. The Turkish police and auxilary force are more concerned and easy to get the solution. Not only the cctv or police forces on the roads or streets but Turkish people is more concerned and they are brave to help in dangerous situations too if you have any trouble. In Malaysia the polices tido sajer or trying to find duit nasi lemak or kopi! 3- Foods and grocery are cheaper and healthier in Turkey but Malaysia has more varieties. 4- Unfortunately Turkish economics are not stable since 2016. Malaysia still boleh tahan lah. 5- Turkey has 4 seasons so landed houses are too difficult to find even those are more pricey. So staying in an apartement is not an option but is a must in Turkish urban life. Malaysia has way better, easier and affordable choices in this point. 6- Both of the folks are friendly and like to show their hospitality but i prefer Turkish one because of feeling their politeness and sincerity more than us. 7- Turkey have more historical and touristic places for everyone. Malaysia has only better nature. 8- Both of the peoples are Muslim but Malaysia is more conservative! I dont like the attitudes of youngsters of Turkey in these sensitive topics! 9- As a Malay, I need to confess that Malaysia is more racist! Happily married with my hubby for 14 years and he still doesnt have a PR!! Damn of the beurocracy of Klang Valley! Yes Turkey is so easy to get PR for foreigners. 10- Health and wellness caring is better in Malaysia. Turkey makes me confused due to their chaotic appearance in hospitals. 11- Majority of Turkish people are loyal to their national language as sickly! So they have not enough attention/need to learn or improve speaking English. Even in kampungs, Malaysians can communicate in English at least. 12- I always suggest the families to live and raise their kids in Malaysia. Sorry to say but Turkey is too secular and materialistic when it comes to the values for having a family! Thats all for now. Just tried to be objective and honest enough. Regards.
