Karen, I'm 60 and have been thrifting for 45 years! I would open up the seams on both sides of the skirt, creating side slits. The skirt would fit better over the trousers.
@whatwedeserve2 жыл бұрын
Many cleaners have a tailor. Have them open the seams on either side of the skirt, add a triangle of fabric close to the color or a complimentary color. That will allow the skirt to hang properly over the pants. I love the concept of this pant/skirt combo. Would be worth seeing the outcome.

Love thrifted clothes! I buy secondhand from charity shops and refashion to look better- DONT get rid of the trouser/ skirt combo! Get some scissors and cut up close to the side seam from the front, right up to hip level or where you need more room. Then I would curve the front panel to round it off over the thigh. Either leave to fray or it could be bound by a dressmaker in a contrasting colour- orange or green! You could curve the back piece as well. I think it would look great!

Karen thank you for speaking to sustainability...it's such an important style message that needs to get out there and as consumers we have the power to shift the way the industry works, simply by voting with our dollar for fashion that is kind to people and planet. Recycling, reusing and reimagining with brands such as ThredUp is a great choice. Like you thrifting is in my DNA and its a huge part of my life...in fact it's changed my life too. Thrifting has really reconnected me back to my closet, community, sublime story and helped me develop a unique personal style that is intrinsic to me...a total vibe right! x

Hiya Karen! I immediately thought to ruche up the Margiela skirt/trouser combo so it looks more belt like; even ruche up one side, safety pin on inside or out, if you get a big one it’ll look like it’s part of the design. You could even use a funky broach! I like them, wouldn’t cut unless I was cutting, hemming the entire sides so it looks more like flaps, *maybe* leather inserts to make it into a looser more A-Line skirt. Just what popped in my head! Didn’t get that FAB patchwork shirt? Omg I want it😬! So weird how Greenpoint has changed, that’s where we had a house & I bloody hated it there but this was 21 ½ years ago when W’burg was just getting the “pioneers”. I actually prefer the old neighborhood even tho I hated it, it was one of those little unique neighborhoods which are quickly disappearing😞. Have a lovely weekend! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️

The margiela pants. I would take the side seams out till the hip part on both sides. Secure the seam with xtra stitching at the hip part going up, so it won't loosen up all the way up. Then you have 2 side splits and can move freely. Because it also looks like it is movement restricting like this.

To me that’s a sign of progress work wise, so congratulations and good luck! Your excellent sense of style and mix of high and low -which is what I subscribe to- is what differentiates you from the rest of the masses if you don’t mind my saying so. As for the Margiela skirt/pants, why don’t you try cutting it in the sides where the inside stitching is? It will definitely widen and given you the cut you want to. The best of luck with your next ventures!

Hi Karen! It's been a while since I've been to Beacon's. Best place for handbags and accessories. I remember that coat and I'm still loving it! As for the trousers, they made the skirt way too small to fit over the fuller trouser. I think you can make it work with some alterations. For example, how about adding a strip of material on both sides of the skirt that would make it wider, with a more a-line flow?

H&M skirt/pant - Can you take the hem out at the hip and see if it fits better ? There has to be a way to fix/adjust it to make it fit better. The designer should of let the skit part flare out instead of having it draw in, there has to be extra material there where you can adjust it though. 🌹🙏🏼

Thrifting in NYC is the best. It used to b much better before I left and moved to Europe. There is a three storey warehouse building on the West side with everything from furniture to the most amazing clothes. When my son was born our friend gave him about 25 Christian Dior baby outfits still in their boxes from a thrift shop. My mother often sends over large parcels of amazing things she discovers for me or my daughter. My daughter has been known for her distinctive style since she started Montessori 15 years ago. You will also find in many buildings or recycling areas, people leave things they don't want. My son brought me home three Michael Kors jackets, one a trench, still with their tags that way when he was visiting home and my daughter 'found' a whole ox of unused, unopened Clinique products that I grabbed off her. New Yorkers love a bargain, rich or poor. My son lives in Switzerland at the moment and he furnished his whole flat from the practice there of leaving out unwanted furniture for anyone to take. They do this in NYC as well. Some of my favourite thrift shops from when I was younger are gone now and some have gotten a bit price crazy by calling used clothing Vintage. Though I did get a Lagerfeld jacket two years ago for three dollars at the Salvation Army on East 3rd. They had one of those tweed Chanel bags at the NY Opera charity shop next door for $1600, which is relatively inexpensive for the item. I left it since it was brown and gold (not my colours).
