It is true that Koreans dislike Chinese people, but the perception that Daelim-dong is dangerous is not just for that reason. There are Chinatowns in Incheon, Konkuk University, and Dongdaemun, and there are Chinese residential areas near Korea University and Kyunghee University, but there is no perception that these places are dangerous. Daerim has long been a place famous for violent crimes, including several murders by Korean-Chinese gangs. The movie made based on this is Crime City. Although it has become much safer now, the perception that it is dangerous still remains, as murder cases are reported almost every year. Although it was not Daelim, the two torso-cutting murders by Korean-Chinese in Suwon, which had become a slum, caused the perception of Korean-Chinese, which was originally unfavorable, to deteriorate significantly. If you search for 수원 토막 살인 사건 , you will find it. The reasons for hating Chinese people and Korean-Chinese people are slightly different. The reason people hate Chinese people is because of cultural and political reasons. For example, the Northeast Project. In order to integrate Korean-Chinese people, it has become increasingly common to claim that all traditional Korean culture is Chinese culture. The reason why people hate Korean-Chinese people is because, in addition to the violent crimes mentioned above, they are now the largest group that commits various fraudulent crimes such as voice phishing.

I stayed 2 week in May in AirB&B right next to Guro Digital Complex and it didn’t seem to be dangerous at all.. I explored all the neighbourhoods around such as Daerim-dong, Guro-dong & Garibong-dong even at night mostly alone and it was completely fine. I got few looks because of my tattoos from ajummas but that was it 😅. I was actually suprised how lively it was and had some of the best meals in those areas 🙌🏻.. My friends who live in Seoul their whole life warned me about the area as lot of Chinese live there. But honestly I felt so safe in comparison with London, almost impossible to compare tbh. Great video 😊

My girlfriend across the room just made fun of me for chortling and shoveling the leafy greens of a salad into my mouth while watching the scene with the inebriated ajoshis. On another note, there's an aspect about working class Korean men that I've always found a bit endearing - is that there is an unguardedness towards foreigners (due to being such a safe country no less), a willingness to engage in silly behavior for sake of entertainment. Much like how they were in awe at your mustache and Bart's size, I'm 197cm (6'5) and I've had grown adult Korean ajoshi's marvel at my height. Random grown workers have walked on their tip toes alongside me or extend their arms all the way up with their hand bent perpindicular to visually mark the top of my head. Granted though, a lot of Korean "Volks" humor is sort of slap-sticky and aided by alcohol anyway.
