2022 Update: I've compared the newer versions of both laptops here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZDXiaKfadl7qas 6:44 I mention the slower RAM in the Legion, but the SODIMM stick in the M16 was also 1Rx16, however the soldered RAM is faster, so less likely to see as much of a change by swapping it on the Zephyrus.

Was very pleased, whilst I would like the screen of the Pro I realised that I always plug it into an external monitor or 2 anyway. Performance blew me away and then I used the money saved from the Pro that I couldn't find to upgrade the RAM and storage. Thanks for the RAM tip!

As someone who owns the 5 Pro, it's a good choice. Also, about the brightness, it's definitely an odd choice from Lenovo. Other than max brightness, the brightness level drops off heavily like Jarrod shows. It's like every other brightness is significantly darker than max brightness. It's not a smooth drop off at all. Hopefully, Lenovo can fix that in software. It's just a weird choice. Luckily, I am accustomed to lower brightness so it doesn't bother me that much.

I tried Ballistix 2*16 GB (which wouldn't actually run at 3200), GSkillz 2*16 GB and finally the standard crucial 2*16GB 3200 and it was the latter which was the fastest. Have posted the userbenchmark and cinebench previously if anyone wants them. Absolutely not an expert, i just happened to see the video on the Legion 5 Pro RAM and thought i'd do even better if i spent a bit more. To clarify - all options were better than the Samsung stock mine came with but it was the standard Crucial which gave most improvement - lucky coincidence that's what Jarrod had lying around!

Thinking about getting a fully upgraded zephyrus m16. 2 tb 40gb ram. Is there going to be any ram or memory issues? If so should I just stick to a 1tb with lower ram? Plz lmkkk

Love your content Jarrod, what is your thoughts on indian pricing, legion 5 pro 3060 1750dollars and 3070 variant at 2000 us dollars exact(ofcourse after conversion), is it worth the upgrade mainly for games.

I have the Legion 5 Pro (3070), and it definitely runs any games you throw at it. It’s a great upgrade if your current laptop is old.
@vitaligent3 жыл бұрын
This was a great and comprehensive comparison. That said, if you had started off with the memory being soldered, I would’ve stopped watching then, because that is a dealbreaker.

Hey jarrod can you make a video on the framework laptop. Because I really liked the Idee of totally upgradable and repairable laptops. But I haven’t found anything Performance and Power Limit based in other reviews Yet, and I would love to know how e sport games like overwatch run on it. So I Hope you Review it soon. By the way great comparison video, I really liked it.

Problem in Australia though, you can't get any lengion laptops til around December if you want to upgrade the GPU to a 3070 or 3080. Sure, they'll let you place the order, but then the date will say December for shipping :'(

That battery life difference is insane
@zs20013 жыл бұрын
So is the temperature difference in gaming and stress test. I can imagine that would only get wider with undervolting on the zephyrus M16.
@Supcharged3 жыл бұрын
@@zs2001 it will use the newly gained thermal headroom to boost performance, so i dont see it running any cooler.
@zs20013 жыл бұрын
@@Supcharged Undervolting reduces temps since by default factory configured cpu's tend to be fed more voltage than required which causes overheating. This reduces both temps and power consumption.
@Supcharged3 жыл бұрын
@@zs2001 that doesn't mean it wont use the thermal headroom to clock higher instead if it can.
@zs20013 жыл бұрын
@@Supcharged The given temps were already much below throttling limits. Now why did it not boost higher then? A waste of thermal headroom won't you say :P Power throttling seems like a more plausible cause why it does not boost higher in spite of the thermal headroom. Moreover, the 11900H was already almost hitting its all core boost speed of 4.4Ghz while gaming without undervolt, so I do not expect there to be any increase in temps with undervolt.

Gaming wise legion pro , that MUX switch is the deal breaker even compared to other models. For more general use, i would go for the M16.

I tried to visit Asus store in Philippines. I inquired about specs and noticed that they are not revealing the TGP of GpU in Specs. They are purposely hiding it. I asked the salesman what is GPU wattage or TDP of their laptop, they said they don't know. Buying laptops these days is so risky.
@comeng540M3 жыл бұрын
I would choose the legion 5 pro because: 1, Legion 5 pro rock AMD Cpu while the M16 have intel Cpu 2, legion 5 pro have a mux switch

Hellon Jarrod, I now this is quite the late question, but isn't it the wrong Legion laptop you have laying on the table in the side by side shot? It looks more like the legion 7 pro to me!

im curious about the legion 5 pro vs the G513 advantage edition. both with the upgraded memory and the QHD screen! im curious about gaming performance, screen quality heat output and noise output between those any chance you will be doing a video comparison with those?
@pmpalihena3 жыл бұрын
Can someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Arent all these gaming laptops without the Mux switch usually switched to the dedicated NVIDIA GPU automatically when a game starts? And switch back to the integrated graphics when in normal use. This is to help save the battary. So I honestly don't know why these KZbinrs keep saying "having mux switch is better to improve the gaming performance".. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️

This is the first review I've found that even mentions Linux. Does all the hardware work on the Legion, such as adjusting the brightness, sleep/wake, WiFi, etc.? It has always been hit-or-miss with Linux on laptops. Does the scaling work correctly to render the UI at an appropriate size for the display? Also, do you feel a the WQHD+ display is lacking in quality for text and productivity compared to 4k?
