As a student I will say that you don't need a big screen on the go. Getting any 14 inch option and docking it when home is probably best. Touchscreens are also a must in collage, if you have the money for it the ideal setup is some sort of 2 in 1 paired with an egpu or a mini PC for home use. You may even get good milage out of the igpu if you turn down the settings. Unless you really like the idea of going to other people's dorms and common areas to game or the major requires GPU performance on the go don't waste money on the g16

i'm in zephyrus team here... sincerely besides the slightly better performance on the legion i don't see much of an issue. Better battery, slightly better screen, better sound system, better portability, slightly better I/O. The upgradability option is a nice to have on the legion, but not a big deal to me, since i and as probably most of the potential buyers won't buy it having that specific purpose in mind.

G16 is for me. Simply can't let the battery life go for toss. I was using the 2020 Acer Predator Helios 300 with i7 and rtx 2060 and it was probably one of the most value for money laptop but the battery could last only for like 2 hours in low brightness, 60hz, and system set to best efficiency. And apart from battery the weight was too much, it was 2.3 kgs, initially i thought i could manage but daily travel from college to my room with laptop and charger was not convenient. Battery is equally as important as performance and Value for money proposition in my honest opinion.

What a coincidence! I was just shopping earlier today for a 16'' laptop, and bam, here's a video by one of the best reviewers on two of the candidates. I must say I prefer the G16 in every other way, but the soldered memory is an immediate deal breaker. Can't have that. But I must also acknowledge, having just handled the G16 at an Asus booth, it is an incredibly compact device for the power it carries. So I understand why they chose to compromise on this front. Also gives me a bit more appreciation of why some manufacturers are pushing for the new flat-mount RAM formfactor (forgot its name).

my issue with ASUS is their keyboards. Their fonts and layout absolutely suck! They go for a slim sleek discrete design and yet as soon as you open up it just looks like a generic gaming laptop. Also, I've found that going through about 3-6 hours straight of class at university per day with the Lenovo Legion 7i i9-14900HX RTX 4070 lasts fine when in quiet mode for me at least. Also, nowadays it's not too hard to have a plug everywhere. I mean, even airplanes have ports nowadays so I don't think it's as big of concern for most customers. Overall though, I'm sure people will be happy with their choice since they're getting either laptop because it satisfies their specific issues. My only gripe with the Legion 7i is not having a RTX 4080 option. The RTX 4080 Laptop GPU is definitely the best bang for your buck when it comes to wattage in laptops. The cooling is so great already and the fan noise is very good so idk why they couldn't get it working.

My opinion is, if you want the g16, you have to buy the 4080 version or stick with Legion 7i if you want the 4070
@davitdavid71653 ай бұрын
The 4080 is underpowered on it and bottlenecked by the ultra chip. You also lose most of the weight savings with it. It only kinda works as a successor to the 2023 g14
@JT111113 ай бұрын
@@davitdavid7165 even with it being underpowered, it performs better than the Legion 7i, and the slight weight gain is better than the 3 fan system on the 4070 which eliminates the annoying fan noise complaint and makes the overall laptop cooler, which means the 4080 specifically (and 4090 obviously) is the best portable powerhouse money can buy right now
@JT111113 ай бұрын
@@davitdavid7165 4080 G16 is like a full powered Legion 7i, in terms of game performance, which makes it the perfect portable laptop, also the fan noise and heat issue is fixed on the 4080 with its cooling technology that doesnt require 3 fans and high pitched noise
@davitdavid71653 ай бұрын
@@JT11111 it is much pricier, still unupgradable and you can disable the middle fan if that is a big issue, plus most of the weight savings are gone. Plus the 4080 is underpowered, you won't reach the performance of the non slim even if you ignore the limitations of ultra. I am not saying you should like it, I am just saying that there are valid reasons to go to an alternative.
@JT111113 ай бұрын
Again, it being heavier makes it still lighter and more portable than the Legion 7i, and again, it being underpowered is true compared to other 4080 laptops, but compared to Legion 7i its still slightly better, and turning the 3rd fan off will make it a heat chamber, now when it comes to price, thats valid, but for me I fixed that issue by importing one from the US, which made the conversion only around £200 more expensive than the Legion 7i, which made it a steal, also I had the Legion 7i but I returned it, so I have experience with both laptops, G16 4080 feels like a macbook that can play AAA games, which makes it the best portable powerhouse money can buy right now, its a shame how the next gen G16 will be more powerful with the 50 series GPU and Core Ultra series 2, that laptop will probably blow all the other laptops out of the park with ease
