I test drove both. I picked the Tacoma. Just felt like it handled way better on road which is where it will spend most of it's life. It was quieter as far as wind noise.Engine felt much more powerful getting up to speed. The dash and features were more modern. Though the 4Runners old school knobs had a charm to them and felt very quality. Infotainment was a wash between them. I liked the overall looks of the 4Runner better. but I picked the Tacoma due to the usefulness of the bed. I ended up buying the TRD Offroad version though as it had the features I needed without the price of the Pro. Hard to pick between the two. test drive of both is needed and you can't go wrong either way. just pick depending on personal needs. Honestly it comes down to needing or wanting suv or truck.

Unfortunately the 4Runner doesn't come with a six speed manual so that means it now leaves us enthusiasts with no other choice but to go with a taco only. Which is not bad but would have been an added advantage for the 4Runner to increase its sales figures and a manual is much better if you are taking this in for some serious off-roading trails, because in some extreme conditions the departure angle of the 4RUNNER would be much helpful when compared to that of the Taco.

@Ricky163174 жыл бұрын
I'm glad Toyota went back to a manual transfer case with the 5th gen 4Runner (they'd made the mistake of going electronic with the 4th gen) but this video mostly solidified my position that I'll probably never own one of these newer vehicles. I don't need or want all these "luxury" items and features like massive touch screens or remote starts. I don't want buttons everywhere. I don't want automated features that do half the driving for you. For me, those are just a waste of money that drive up the cost. They change the driving experience to something I don't want, and they are becoming much more difficult to fix on the trail. I'll stick with my Xterra, something that was extremely affordable, has more torque than either of these two vehicles, lets ME do all the driving, and doesn't have an interior that's covered in lights and buttons and screens. The only real complaint I have about it is the electric transfer case. It will get me anywhere these two can go, and while Nissan may not be as well known for reliability as Toyota my X still has tons of life left, and when it finally dies one day I'll be able to replace it with another solid Xterra several times over before I've spent as much as I would on just one 4Runner or Tacoma (although when this engine does finally kick the bucket I'm tempted to just do a diesel swap...). I really wish that these new vehicles would have a bare bones analog option, but unfortunately I'm in the minority, everyone just wants ease and comfort nowadays

"While Americans can’t seem to get enough of the mid-size pickups from Japanese automakers, they absolutely shun their full-size trucks. According to data from WardsIntelligence, the highest market share Toyota has seen with Tundra was 9.1% and that was in 2007. It currently hovers in the 5% range. It’s even worse for Nissan. The best the Titan was able to muster was 3.5% of the market in 2005. Today it’s at 1.5%. With the Detroit Three commanding 94% of full-size pickup sales this year, it might almost make more sense for Toyota and Nissan to share a large truck platform." Autoline

I’ve always had a small part of me temped to buy a 4Runner TRD Pro over the years. I often take my 2014 explorer then 2018 Explorer on the beach and I deal with snow where I live so a TRD is appealing. Unfortunately not only does the 4Runner lack in interior luxury when compared to my explorers, I hate how Toyota doesn’t at least offer an engine upgrade for more power. The TRD May be very capable off road and their tow capacity of 5,000 pounds may be true but based on my experience towing a 4,800 LB pound boat/trailer it certainly felt like I was over my max towing capacity. It also legitimately feels underpowered. I’ve always liked the TRD look and off road capabilities but they really need a new engine to keep up with the rest of the SUVs in class. I know if they did that I would quite possibly be a new Toyota buyer.

Ofcourse 4runner. No question. It is not about engine or transmission or transfer case this two tracks are identical it is all about short vs long base, otherwise both kind of same.

Tried out the Tacoma 3 days ago. Its great if its just you and one other person. Kids, friends, then forget it. Tooooo small. Opted for the Tundra TRD Pro. Maybe not as off-roady as a Tacoma, but I can bring the family and dogs with me with tons o gear to boot.

It just need tires pretty much.. maybe small lift and tundra would be fine minus that bloated V8

I chose the runner because when you have a truck your a target for people wanting you to help them move their 💩!

That intro was EPIC! Well done!

the 4runner has a smoother ride because it uses rear coilovers instead of leaf springs. The Tacoma needs leaf springs for towing & hauling (it is a pickup truck after all...).
