what production-cons can you encounter with an 360 camera? One thing that supprised me with the X2 was the big difference in tone/brightness etc from one lens to the other./just seems mismatched when panning over the horisont or sky, you can easily see when one sensor stop and the other begins from the different tone, not because of the stitching but the sensor-tone and yep the inbuild feature to align are used. I don't know if that is simply just a con with 360 cameras and you need to accept a certain difference from one sensor to the other or its an production error. Sadly all the videos on YT are lubricated Insta360 videos and close to none have put any own money behind it, so the narrative is usually "promotion and advertising" and any neutral consumer perspective that reflect on problems and production error'cons or things to be aware on, is not present. and that a slippery slope, I know its called social media influencers, but still.. character should not be flushed out with the bathwater' simply because some CN company is dangling freebies in front of somebody.

What 360 camera would be the best for VFX artists looking to capture HDRIs/environment maps? For an HDRI to produce sharp, accurate shadows in 3D software, the image needs to be bracketed in a way that retains the brightest highlights. This is a challenge when capturing outdoor environments due to the brightness of the sun, because most 360 cameras can't lower their exposure enough to have the sun appear as a small point in the sky (due to shutter speed/aperture limitations). The Theta Z1 has an exceptionally fast shutter speed (1/25000), but the Insta360 One R is the only 360 camera on the market that supports ND filters (up to 10 stops). Considering that, would the One R be the best choice here? Resolution and overall image quality are less important in this use case.

Hey so I’d say the Z1 still, as the quality is infinitely better than any of insta360’s cameras for photography. The shutter speed should easily be fast enough for what you described 👍

GoPro MAX doesn't support 360 live streaming, but can live streaming through wifi AP e.g. router. Insta 360 one X2 supports 360 live streaming, but have to use cellphone wifi to connect to the camera WiFi hot-spot and use cellphone celluar network to connect to internet. Both of them are strange design.

I'm not too happy with the One X dynamic range when using Matterport. It can't handle bright light and snow outside windows. Are the Ricoh Z1 or SC2 any better with Matterport without being able to edit yourself.

Hi Ben, thanks for your video. I recently bought the onex2 and have a lot of troubles with the stability of their app. On my ipad air 2 it is pretty useless because it crashes all the time. On a android phone it is a bit better but regugarly loses connection with it. I have seen a lot of other people with the same issues. So they should fix this, It is something you could test and mention in your next video. And maybe insta listens to you so they fix this issue soon.

The overheating issue! I want a 360 camera for recording my street motorcycle trips. So there will be a lot of side by side riding as well as recording bikes in front and in back of me. So this would be handlebars and in direct sun. Do you have a recommendation that would meet this need? It would be plugged into batty power all the time and I would love to be able to record for at least an hour.

Your Insta360 prediction was close. The One RS 1-Inch is pretty compelling with it's 1 inch sensor, modularity and X2-like form factor. I have doubts now as to whether a X3 will even be coming.

Ben I have learned a lot with your videos with plenty of fantastic tips but ever since I bought my Insta 360 One X2 I encountered with an X located always in the same spot but on different photos. Some photos it does not show because its less visible having to do with the color of the photo in that spot. Can you tem me what I may be doing wrong if I am of course? It would be easier to understand what I am saying if you could actually see the photos but I am just reaching out maybe you had already heard of something like this. Its a FAT X ;-) I love this camera but in plenty of photos I have to go into Photoshop to remove these Xs. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

I bought the QooCam 8K in March 2020.. It was good, but I wasn't that satisfied with the video quality. But after the last firmware update and update of Qoocam studio, I now use it on a daily basis and nearly all the time indoors. It gives great results, it's sharp even in the distance. I doubt - but maybe somebody can convince me otherwise?- that Inta360 X2 can match 10bit color profile and 8K details. The only problem now is that the battery is bloated and I have to wait until Qoocam sends me a new one.

Thanks for the comparison review. I have interest in getting a 360 camera specifically to shoot footage from a car for compositing, and wonder if you can recommend if the Insta 360 One X will work for this. The 360 camera would be positioned over the roof of a car, and its footage would be exterior footage composited additional footage actors shot inside a car. When shooting the actors in a static car, there would be a blue screen for creating a compositing mask. Shooting actors in a static car removes the issues of road noise for dialog, and allows the director to communicate directly with actors. The reason I think a 360 camera would be ideal is that I could when I switch from one actor camera angle to a different camera angle (separate camera shots, no panning), I could extract the appropriate angle I need for a background from the 360 camera footage. BTW, I would do all my background footage selection on a computer, reduce fish eye distortion, and render out new clips for compositing on the computer. Regarding the fish eye distortion, some of that would be hidden as the view from the inside of the car will hide the top and bottom view of the 360 camera footage (as it will be composited through the confines of car windows and windshield). I hope this makes sense, and that you can provide insight on if a 360 camera will do what I'm after.

One unit I also looked at around 4Q 2020 before taking the plunge on X2 was the Xiaomi 4K 360 camera as it often were like 90USD on the platforms like Alie and bang for the 360buck it looked quite decent but likely old stock being cleared...
