Great video we have the LG model and it works great. If anyone believes that a separate washer and dryer offers faster laundry.... that may be if you are still doing laundry the old way staying home all day switching loads etc. We are a family of 5 and at night we put on a load and wake up it is done. Put on a load before leaving for work and come home it is done. Put on a load while working around the house and it is done when you are finished with other chores. You just have to change your laundry routine to a better one offering freedom to do other things. Our machine is quiet and seems to be saving $$$ in utilities and clothes seem to stay newer looking longer.

@@yonkocommander5531 30 cycles you get a reminder to clean the tub. I use this reminder to clean lint from the heatsink and washer filter. Could call it 'different work', instead of measuring detergent, switching laundry between machines, I clean lint about every month. It takes ~5-10 minutes. To some this may be impractical but not that big a deal for me.

@@yonkocommander5531 On mine, you have to spend about a minute every 5 loads and clean the coils. Imperative, or the unit won't dry well. Every 4-6 weeks, I do a tub clean and spend about 10 minutes wiping the lint from the main seal to put it back in as new state. Got my machine the first week of Feb. Has been flawless after I figured out you have to keep that condenser clean every 4-5 loads!

Just picked up the Samsung unit for $1750 at Home Depot. Ran my normal size load on normal settings. Took 3 hours and clothes felt perfectly dry, no different than my previous regular washer dryers. Going to try the AI setting next to see if there’s a reduction in electricity usage. Very quiet, sleek, and efficient unit.

Tip: When drying large items like comforters, take it out after about 30 mins, rearrange it, then put it back in. The insides don’t dry well because there’s not enough space to tumble around. It’s a little inconvenient but at least it can start drying without transferring. You just have to remember to come back at some point to rearrange it. It will dry in 1 hr

It appears we are going to go with the GE Ultrafast, even though from the various postings they should have done their own correction’s of the lint filter. However, not a deal breaker since there are postings of how to do your own modification for trapping more lint from getting to the Heat Pump coils. Great video. Nailed it. The horribly long drying times for bedding on the LG and especially Samsung make them a non starter for me in several Airbnb rental properties for which I was considering them. The lint problem in the Samsung combined with its (IMO) overly all touchscreen computer interface make it a total non starter for any use case. The GE or LG could be a nice option for anyone looking to add laundry into a bedroom walk in closet where plumbing may be easily accessible from an adjacent bathroom but where more than 120V electric outlet (or gas) and a vent are not readily available, and also where the smaller size and set it and forget it design could be nice to do clothes without waiting for laundry day or taking laundry to a remote laundry room on another floor or basement of a house. I agree with you that the new heat pump separate dryer from LG, or the LG WashTower models with the heat pump dryer built in, make for a superior performing option. I just wish LG would make that heat pump WashTower without requiring a separate 240V outlet for the dryer part, which seems silly given how little amperage the dryer actually uses. Seems almost like a lazy design of just reusing the hardware from the regular electric WashTower unit so as not to have to have a separate part for manufacturing the chassis.

Had I seen your videos before ordering, I would most likely have gone with the GE instead of the Samsung. FWIW, I've done around 30 loads and your exposure of the amount of lint build-up really has me worried. However, I ran an inspection camera back to the coils and mine look pretty clean, nothing like yours after 4 loads. I will admit that I'm paranoid about cleaning out the filter and actually vacuum it after every load. I still have a month before I'm locked in and, so far, I'm satisfied with the job it is doing.

Great video. I like to stay on the cutting edge of technology, and get cut about as often as not for it, so I've been watching your videos for a different perspective on these newer machines. That said, I noticed that your testing method is essentially washing a week's worth of clothing in divided loads, which seems like reviewing tractors by their top speed. To me, there are two primary reasons to consider buying an all-in-one machine: 1) you have no other option (i.e. no space or no vent) or 2) you want to use the schedule feature to do laundry daily while you're away. If you batch up your laundry then having two machines is always going to be better for throughput compared to one, so these combo units will always look bad by those metrics. So I'm more curious how these machines perform with a mixed set of clothing/linens that a person might dirty in 1 - 2 days and how well they can finish loads at a set time (or at least a consistant and predictable amount of time). Taking eight hours to wash a load isn't a big deal, but working 12+ hours then having to stay up another three hours past my bedtime waiting on my laundry to finish an unexpectedly slow load is.

Have had the GE one and done for about a year now I think. The lint area needs to be changed after every load for the best drying times. The heat sink does get lint on it not matter how often you clean the filter and you do need to vacume the inside of the lint area up after a few uses. Overall its been more of an upkeep than my traditional dryer but I still do like that everything (typically) is done all at one time no matter where I am.

One thing I haven't seen and would like to see for the future is if the actual electricity usage can be recorded (smart plugs are pretty cheap these days). If one washer/dryer takes longer but uses less electricity, that would be a fair trade if you're just going to end up leaving it running before bed.
@bibidi2568

You can see that with the Samsung. For me a full load I believe is less than 1 KwH on most loads and 2 KwH on the highest.
@spazzman90
@spazzman90 28 күн бұрын
These all are pretty miniscule. About 250 Wh for a wash (assuming no water heating), and about another 1.5 kWh for the heat pump dry. One will not take less electricity to accomplish the same drying task. Like you said, one will take longer, but use less electricity. The technology is the same, and the net will be closely the same.

1 year with the GE so far, 2 units. Lint gathers in the return duct just before the filter and lint also bypasses the filter and begins building up on the condenser fins. Love the convenience especially with 2 units since I can just throw loads in both and have 2 loads done in a couple hours without any loads to be moved but GE really should have thought out maintenance on these. While you CAN get to the condenser and the duct to clean it, it's a real pain in the butt and not something the average homeowner is going to want to do. It needs to be a more modular and accessible design so you can reach the entire duct path to keep it clean, heck they could have built in a spray system to automatically flush the condenser with hot water for max performance over time!

If you do a significant amount of laundry, a separate washer and dryer are the way to go. LG released a full sized heat pump dryer a year ago, which negates the need for these combination units. I tend to let laundry pile up and think the LG unit will be a huge quality of life boon. There’s a massive energy penalty for washing small loads with a traditional dryer because you remove the same amount of conditioned air regardless. In a place like Georgia where summer rates essentially double that’s a lot of money saved. With the auto dispensing detergent and a separate ozone system to reduce mold and lint I feel like this is the pinnacle of laundry.

Thank you for this video. Been watching many to figure out which to get because when we did an addition on our house he builder moved the dryer vent piping and it’s now a 98 ft run with a lot of elbow and upward piping. 🤦‍♀️ we don’t want the risk of fire and the “big” vent cleaning company can’t be trusted to do a good cleaning we learned. A couple questions I’m curious to learn in your testing as we consider options. For the Samsung comforter test did you use the AI setting? I’ve seen quite a few others say that the AI setting ends up about the same time as the LG and GE, but comes out dryer. Also on the Samsung, when lint was found on the coils, did you run the product care cycle? That’s something we’ve seen mentioned that seems to make sure the coils are pretty cleaned up and is recommended to run every so many loads. Curious again just because it seems those things make a difference. Agree with you that it seems we need to see what happens 5 years down the road.

Something to keep in mind with these combos is that not only do they contain refrigeration systems (so I'm sure plenty of people are going to lay it on the side to haul it, then plug it in and run it right away, feeding a slug of oil to the compressor!), but they're just plain *heavy*... so early deaths may be a result of these issues that are unique to the combos.

My understanding is that GE does not have a true sanitise cycle, but rather their cheesy 'sanitise with oxy' which is a joke. Why GE went this route, other than to be cheap, is beyond me. So that would leave the LG as my selection.
@Kitsudoku
@Kitsudoku 22 күн бұрын
Your comment about "two units being faster than one" and being the only reason you don't recommend people buy one makes no sense. Not only would it take longer and take up twice the amount of space, but it also requires an extra step. You still only have ONE washer and ONE dryer. You technically can't do "multiple loads at once" as that would insinuate you can put TWO loads in one machine at a time. This also does not equate for lost time of being unable to leave the laundry unattended. I feel like you had the wrong perspective. This would theoretically save you A LOT of time if you have multiple loads. And wouldn't having an all in one make it easier to do laundry daily, completely eliminating the need to have one day a week that you're forced to stay home and solely do laundry and babysit it literally all day? This seems like the answer to everyones biggest issue with laundry... outside of putting it away.

Fair point...except you cant reload like you can with 2 so it does quite a bit longer. Then there is service. Washers and dryers are fixable in an industry that can't fix anything. Now add a compressor, evaporator, and exchanger. Lastly, I like the combos, but they are not for everyone, especially larger families. Than again, thats just my opinion
