Which Allen Bradley PLC are You Connected To?

Here are some important tips to make sure you are connected to the right Allen Bradley PLC. One of the most dangerous situations you can be in is to think you are connected to one PLC when in fact you are connected to a PLC on an adjacent machine or perhaps even in another building. This works with RsLogix 500, RsLogix 5000, Studio 5000, and Connected Components Workbench for the Allen Bradley Controllogix, Compactlogix, Micrologix, SLC 500, and Micro800 PLC.

Creating a good excel sheet with IP's listed is a good start also. We try to put the machine serial# & the IP address in the file name. Also don't be afraid to put the IP on the front of that PLC. I've definetly logged into the wrong machine before! Lol

😂😂😂 I've worked at sawmills where every force light in the whole place was left on 😂😂😂 How would you see the force or the I/O lights with the cabinet locked ? I like to force on a stack light or indicator light.

The only thing I don't like about the idea of forcing a stack light on, is you assume that it isn't a dangerous output if you are connected to the wrong machine. There comes a point that if you are in doubt that you are connected to the correct controller, you will need to open the cabinet.
