I think for the "Choose 2" at 8:15 Drew chose pretty well. Assuming ideal conditions for the defenders you would presumably have some amount of time to set up defenses which both Romans and WW1 soldiers were trained to do. With sufficient ammunition the WW1 soldiers could form a backline that could prioritize taking out the harder targets as they approached while the Romans formed a frontline that would prevent any of the enemies who did get close from overwhelming the WW1 soldiers in melee. Overall however I personally think the best choice would be the Knights and WW2 Soldiers. Plate armor essentially makes the user invulnerable to melee weapons on the battle field which means that (even outnumbered) they would be able to hold their ground better than any of the other melee troops. And one of the key differences between WW2 and WW1 Soldiers is that a squad of WW2 Soldiers would have a submachine gun armed person. I can not stress enough how much of a force multiplier even a single automatic weapon is, especially when the majority of your opponents are melee units.

Love this explanation I chose the Roman soldiers and the 1 Modern soldier because even when out numbered the one modern soldier would greatly out gun the WW 1 and WW2 soldiers too much for them to be helpful, and the French soldiers would probably get off a few shots but the falanx of the Roman soldiers would block these shots basically making a impenetrable defence around the modern soldier.

@@CookieMonte I don't know if the romans can stop the early 19th century bullets. I mean yeah usually they were shot from far away so it wasn't that destructive, but here the french would know they can wait until the last moment and shot at point blank. The caliber was very big, and I think it would penetrate any armor or shield like butter, the power at close range is crazy. The real issue, is that they won't be able to reload, so even if they took out 25 roman soldiers, there'd be 50 left against the 25 french soldiers, which had better sabers but no armor. Romans still win. It would be different between 7,500 romans and 2,500 french soldiers. Same ratio, but volley fire means you can stop the successive waves of roman charges more easily. There will always be a line of soldiers firing, the romans would probably die (or not charge at all, more realistically).

depends on their equipment I think. I would probably go with the modern guy and the WW2 guys just so I have the smallest likelyhood that the enemy will have a good sniper gun. Then just abuse superior ranged weapons and machine guns

Bolt-action rifles and light machine guns have no issue penetrating even the best armour and or shields at basically any range, can outrange the muskets significantly and have the ROF to deal with the small chaff. The modern guy will probably pick off a few guys, but one single guy is just too little. If it's night time, his nightvision might make him the better pick afterall though. "Samurai" can mean anything from wielding swords and bows to rifled muskets and artillery depending on the timeframe.

8:16 The 1x Modern Soldier and 10x from WW1 Soldiers Let me explain: The one modern soldier with a Assault Rifle would probably clean house with literally everyone that doesn't have a projectile weapon, he aslo has by far the best optics, and armor. Even if he is carrying a standard issue Assault Rifle, he would easily defeat everyone bar the WW1 and WW2 soldiers. Now why the WW1 over the WW2? Well most WW2 armies had weapons similar to WW1 (The brits used the Lee Enfield in both wars for example) so the difference between a WW1 and WW2 soldier is not unsurmountable and having 10 compared to 5 is pretty important, this ofc can change depending on weaponry and terrain (I.e fighting in a field or in a town, at close range or long etc etc or is the WW2 soldier carrying a Machine Gun or a Rifle) but generally, i'd these two.
