The version I use, I grew up with, the people that got me started into the Church when I was young, my mother and father, that is the version they used. I like the way it explains things that I can understand. No, I have never read another version, because I do not feel I need to, I am completely happy with the KJV. I do not tell people they are using the wrong one, it is their choice, just as the KJV is my choice. I am new to your series and I have really enjoyed them so very much...... thank you very much..

After watching your video on your favorite study bibles I ordered three Bibles in KJV. I got two Open Bibles & the Key Word Study Bible. I enjoyed your enthusiasm about Bible study. I really needed to hear that. You and your brother did a great job explaining about your preference for the KJV. I'm not KJV only, but I always come back to it as my preferred based on its accuracy. The KJV helped to build the English language. It's harder to read, but I don't mind the challenge. I also love the beauty of the KJV. Handel's Messiah (which I love to sing) is based on the KJV! How can you beat that?

So are you happy with verses that have been added ( 1 John 5:7), wrongly translated 'God' instead of 'who' ( 1 Tim 3:16). Von Tishendorff who discovered the Siniatic MSS in the 19th century compared this early greek MSS and found a host of errors in the KJ. Do you really want to benefit from the Holy word of God or just stick to a human's altering and changing the true meaning?. I have a KJ version and love it, but always compare it with other bibles.

It is a sign of the times when people are suddenly saying that the King James Bible is "too difficult to understand" when the previous ten generations happily used it and didn't find it "too difficult to understand". They just worked hard, to study it and learn from it. Working hard and studying hard isn't apparently considered virtuous any more.

I'm in my 50's and a lifelong KJV user. Most who use the KJV are not truly studying it. They read it and study it to the extent possible. The archaic words and idioms will restrict their understanding unless they are taught how to use the tools needed to completely understand the word. Tools like Hebrew and Greek lexicons, a dictionary that can define the 400 plus year old archaic words, and enough information to recognize when the words that we still use have completely changed meaning from 1611 as well as commentaries that one might use regardless of translation. If one does all of this, the KJV is understood without much trouble. I highly recommend the KJVer or an equivalent update to use with the KJV so archaic words, etc are easier to understand. I prefer the TR and have switched to other translations like the NKJV(my primary Bible) and the MEV. I use other translations for reference as well.

@@joselimjoco658 I appreciate your remarks. The KJV actually uses simpler words than do the modern versions. Its style and occasional archaisms do take a little getting used to. Once these are mastered, however, and once one appreciates the superiority of its textual basis, there is no need for any of these modern versions.

I remember a time when everyone would read the scripture aloud with the preacher because everyone had the same bible, the kjv. We can't do that today because of the many translations. Could this be a contributing factor of division and biblical illiteracy in the church now? I'm just curious, not trying to start a fight or debate.

Excited to watch this. I've been on my KJV journey over ten years. Started off being raised on NIV, then heard about the whole debate I got a KJV, then dipped my toe into NLT, the Message (🤢), CSB, attempted the ESV and circled back around to KJV. I own multiple translations, but after reading part of Gail Riplinger's book I just can't stay with a modern translation. I know what you mean about holier than thou KJV onlyists that can be extremely aggressive and rude to those who aren't pro KJV. I honestly feel it's something the Holy Spirit convicts you on.

Some of you out there are not aware that your King James Bible is not the original 1611 version. It was “updated” in the late 1700s. I own both the 1611 KJV and the updated one from the late 1700s. The words "of God" ARE NOT in the 1611 version, but ARE in the later published KJV versions in 1John 5:12. If the KJV is the perfect word of God, then which one is the right one? It can't be both! Here's YOUR updated verse: “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” The original 1611 KJV DOES NOT have “of God” in 1JN 5:12! They left out the name of God! Now let me explain what I've found checking on this verse. The 1524 Tyndale New Testament has those two words. The 1560 GENEVA BIBLE has those two words. The Bishops Bible of 1568 also has those two words. All three of these versions come from the same manuscripts that the KJV was translated from, and precedes it's publication! But that single version, the original 1611 King James Version, and only THAT one, DOES NOT have those two words! Since this is factual and true; how can anyone who knows this say that the KJV is the “perfect word of God?” Knowingly they can't. Unless they refuse to of course. But there are some people who refuse to be taught the truth! But be advised that I love the KJV! I think its a wonderful version. But, like all the other English translations, it's not "perfect." No translation is! But there are some who will hold their KJV above and in higher authority than the original languages. And that's just so sad. Why would King James leave this out, when all those other's do have it? He must have had a reason.

Ah printing error . That’s why they revised it and corrected /standardised spelling . That’s why the 1611 is NOT the KJV version that became THE KJV that sold millions of copies. “6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified SEVEN times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever” The Lord shows us here that refining was needed. The KJV today IS the words of God that he promised us

Immense thanks for this important video Sir. It was very much needed. I was all confused between Study Bibles in KJV, NKJV & ESV. Points discussed by your and your brother are worth to look upon before considering a good translation. 👍😄 Back in 2011, I was in 12th Grade when my high school librarian introduced me to Christ. She passed me down a small New Testament donation copy which I read and re-read on many occasions. I scribbled it all over. The book aged gracefully with time but the word of god still remains new as ever. As a man born and brought up in Hindu Family, I got a keen interest in Theology. I'm thankful to my circumstances that allowed me to achieve a glimpse of teachings from both Bhagavad Gita at home and Holy Bible at my convent high school. The words from these holy scriptures helped me drastically to shape up my conscience and persona. Love and respect from India. Keep spreading love and word of God. Namaste. 🙏🙂

Jesus Christ is God incarnate who came to earth to be born and live a perfect life, a sinless life. (He is one person of the Trinity, consisting of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; one God in three persons not three Gods.) Jesus then gave Himself up to be crucified and died to pay for the sins of the whole world. My sin, your sin, the sins of everybody. 3 days later He was resurrected. He now offers salvation to all who will turn from their sin and trust Him to save them from eternity in hell. He paid our debts because we couldn't, but we have to trust Him to do it. I cannot add anything to what He has done (not even baptism). I cannot do enough good to take even a year off of my death sentence in hell. The sentence is a never ending one, because I have sinned against an eternal God. But Jesus took my punishment, He saved me, and offers that same salvation to you. I am praying for you.

I started with the New King James Version, b/c I was intimidated by the KJV. Now I prefer the KJV hands down (though the NKJV is the version I'm most comfortable with outside of the KJV). Because besides the accuracy of the KJV, no other version captures the beauty of the Psalms in the same way (not even NKJV). And often the more modern translations are the ones that feel clunky to me. Because of the poetic nature of the language used with the KJV, it's much easier to memorize the exact wording (and hide the word in my heart). Whereas when I read modern translations, my brain automatically switches to trying to remember a summary, not the actual words (or I know the KJV wording so well that my brain superimposes that over what I'm reading). I'm definitely going to check out the book you recommended on the KJV. Thanks for posting this.

I used to love the NIV when I first became a Christian, but even i noticed that things were totally translated different in some instances. After my own extensive research I've come to conclude that the newer translations are not only changing words and meanings but that they are based on a corrupt manuscript. So even from the beginning it's not a good translation, but what's worse is they keep re-translating it, even the NIV doesn't read the same as it used to.

"old English" is the era even before Wycliffe (1300s), the approximate era of Wycliffe is "middle English", and the English of the 1600s is modern English... we still write modern English... :-)

I use The Seventy primarily and Knox is a good and faithful mixture of the two - 1611 KJV has my heart though, and even though Coverdale's Psalms are clearer and more beautiful, I kind of like to flip between the KJV, Coverdale and the Psalter According to the Seventy of late. Though there were plenty of Bibles in English around at the time the 1611 came out, it was commissioned by a King who ruled by Divine and Holy Right, kept the Apocrypha and remained strictly Orthodox despite straying from the Seventy that Christ Himself quoted.

I refer to 3 different types of text, which are commonly called Byzantine, Alexandrian and Western. (Western is the text type underlying the Vulgate.) I think the Alexandrian text is the "Piltdown Man" of text types: that it doesn't actually exist, but is a conflation of the most aberrant readings found in the manuscript tradition. The Textus Receptus is for the most part an exemplar of the Byzantine type but imports a few Western readings.

Thank you and your brother for drawing folks into this topic. God bless yall.

Not out to argue here. The KJV is not the closest to the original, many consider the NASB to be the most 'accurate' word for word translation. The KJV is rather on the poetic side and yet also rather word for word. The KJV does in fact have its flaws and limitations. There are some inconvenient translations in some cases or added passages that shouldn't be in Scripture. This is because contrary to modern day translations, the KJV is limited to only one manuscript, the Textus Receptus, while more modern translations have access to a much larger range of manuscripts that were dated to be much older even than the Textus Receptus. That means we can compare more manuscripts throughout a wider time range and figure out what things were original, what was added, where errors were made and get an idea of what is reliable and what is not. God bless you!

What do your think of the research that say the other two texts are actually not that old? Some say maybe even a fraud? I do cringe with I see the footnotes say the oldest and best manuscripts. I switch about three years ago to KJV.

I don't know if I believe firmly in textual families, at least not in an extreme way. There seems to be some crossover negating that idea (at least the extreme position). But, I have always understood Byzantine (KJV is in this lineage, although the TR was based on 6 manuscripts. The majority of texts are slightly different), also Alexandrian, and Western. Yep, I am a Byzantine text guy as well. As far as modern translations, I like the NKJV and the ESV (although from a different tradition). However, ALL honest translations teach the SAME theology, whether the KJV, ESV, NASB, NIV, NLT and etc. Maybe not all your favorite verses will read the same, but the doctrine will be found elsewhere. No translation is really word for word. It wouldn't make good sense. Only word for word as much as possible and still make good sense. I use the NKJV because it is in the language of the people. The KJV, although superbly beautiful, is not in the language of the people, for which many people gave their lives.

I will always use KJV because of how close to the original text it is. But you have great points that I can now use to explain to people why they should read KJV. God said to study to show thyself approved. And I would want people to study the true to the original text. I don’t think we need a new version because God told us not to take away or add to the Bible or change anything to fit our wants.

The problem with "updating" is you're essentially saying that mankind has evolved beyond God to where we can correct or update his speech. The Bible says 2 Timothy 3:16-17 essentially states that it's perfect as is. We aren't meant to change it. The other thing about KJV is that the Textus Receptus came from Antioch whereas the Alexandrian Text came out of Egypt and if you look at what the Bible says about Egypt - in Isa 30:5 he says Egypt brings shame and disgrace. But all throughout the Bible, Egypt is not trusted or looked upon fondly. Second, as to the "archaic language" argument...why is the Bible the only book written whereby they attack its language as they don't do it with Shakespeare or Homer ... just the KJV. Another thought, which version of the Bible is crucified, condemned and questioned as much as Jesus? There are many reasons why KJV is the true word of God. Also, there has only been 421 "corrections" in the KJV - these fixed printing errors, standardized spelling, etc. These corrections were done within a few years of its first printing. The other versions have scripture redacted, deleted, changed and are so far off base.

The 1611 KJV is more difficult to read than the 1769 KJV edition, but the 1769 edition still requires more dictionary consultation and a basic understanding of Early Modem English (not Old English) grammar. The KJV made some translation choices that, while harmless, have resulted in the development of false doctrines by some readers; e.g., Study, Lucifer, morning star & Herod's pagan Easter. The KJV has some valid underlying textual issues; e.g., 1 John 5:7,8; but they don't destroy essential doctrines.

Hello! I live in Brazil and I look forward to buying a King James Bible in english, as loyal as possible to the original. I've been looking for those at Amazon but it's hard to know, by their description, if they are the original unaltered 1611 version. I'm just starting to study the Bible and I wanted the best version. Would you have a link where I can find my Bible and buy it from overseas?

If you think about it, this version controversy wasn't going on until recent decades. For about 350 years there was no issue, everyone trusted the good ol King James Bible, no one questioned it, there weren't all these divisions we see in Christianity today, we need to get back to that

Good presentation men. Most people are not aware of the truth about the textus receptus. All the seminaries are training their pastors to believe the oldest manuscripts which are Alexandrian texts which are corrupt. Too bad we cannot have a more up to date English that sticks with the textus receptus.....well the KJV easy read does a pretty good job. All the others that claim they are textus receptus still stray from the textus receptus in multiple places.

You use it because you know it and love it and that's all the reason you need. Any further rationalization is unnecessary. If your choice was actually based on support of the "TR" the NKJV is a much better choice. For a modern translation of better manuscripts using the same flawed translation philosophy use the NASB. And the best translations of the best texts for modern English speakers the NIV and NET.

Words like LAMB, DONKEY etc. have spiritual significance esp. seen in word studies. DONKEY as used through out Scripture for ex. paints the beautiful spiritual reality of both Christ's humility and His triumph on behalf of and Lordship over stubborn but saved sinners. "Lowly riding on a donkey" is so much more than simply a descriptor of HOW Christ entered Jerusalem. Words matter, so being as exact as possible is critical to understanding what God would have us understand in His word.

This is an important subject, and I have gone back and forth bordering st times on KJV only. What I know is that I sense the KJV works. It feels right spiritually. That may not be very scientific but it is more powerful, and I have tried memorizing other versions but come back to KJV. What was scripture reference related to the discussion on "donkey?" I didn't understand your point about why donkey was a bad word??? Ty jim .

Every time I spent time in modern versions, without exception, I felt uneasy reading them (they sounded so foreign and unfamiliar) and not because of arguments decrying them by KJVO advocates. I wasn't even aware there were KJVO advocates when I faced this uneasiness. Since then, I've examined the arguments from both sides of the translation debate for literally years and came out in favor of the KJV. The host of literary features built into the KJV have never been duplicated by another translation. Don't take my word for it. Study both sides, do the hard work, and examine how God has used the KJV in history. It might surprise you.
