I went with a $20 - 6000 yard spool of 10lb test Cabela's line about 6 years ago and I've still got plenty left. Not a single line breakage nor knot slip ever. A properly set drag and 9" leader keep even musky from pulling free. Of course, they don't make the line any more so I'll probably switch to the Bass Pro brand line in another 6 years when I run out...biggest bang for the buck. It's pretty hard to beat getting enough line for 50-60 reels for $20 (including sales tax) and re-spooling for 33 cents/reel with line that just plain works very well.

This folds up relatively small and extends out to a good length. kzbin.infoUgkxphFK7ETiDP5G4IGsNcg7vbASDp_YfDpI I would warn that while it folds down to a convenient size, it's still a bit too large to fit into my tacklebox, which I think is a pretty "normal" size. I guess a hardcore fisherman might have a hardcore box that's larger than mine, but for the typical once-a-year fisherman like me, it will have to be carried outside the box.

Really great abrasion resistance and though I've never put the Big Game line kzbin.infoUgkxQ4x31pJVpClzhxzNFeILZYTW7Xbs7ZIF (any poundage) through an official test it always seems to break well above rated poundage. This line stretches a very good amount before it breaks and does well in saltwater too. Not the best line for a spinning reel in my opinion, especially if you're planning on using it for lures only due to it having a bit of memory but still a great line whether filling a spool, using as top shot or strictly for leader line. I've bought a bunch of Big game line in the past and plan on continuing to do so in the future.

Cool tests, it's great to see P-Line tactical coming out on top i've been using it for years now after trying a lot of different lines. The abrazx sucks, i've always had issues of it getting a kink somewhere along the line and it would break on me. However, i think you could have also measured "line memory" as that is a huge factor when considering how much you want to pay for line. I've tried the bass pro line (the 17#) and the memory was so bad that a $250 reel casted and felt like a piece of garbage. The bass pro line always wanted to birds nest on me and i ended up cutting it off not long after. The thicker line definitely helps with abrasion, but memory is definitely increased because of it. P-Line did a great job balancing those factors out, i never feel like i get bad memory out of that line. I also use line conditioner on my fluorocarbon to help reduce it. Great video though, fuck abrazx.

I still didn't finish to watch the video, I am at 4:23 just before the abrasion test, but I think that a proper abrasion comparison can be done mainly if the lines have the same diameter. The pound test to diameter ratio is mainly an indication of the quality of the material when subject to tension, although it obviously plays a minor role in abrasion as well. Another thing that can change the results is that almost always, cheap products cheat on diameter by declaring it much smaller than it actually is, whilst expensive products don't

Did a tensile strength test for materials science class, how I did it was WRAPing 5-6 times around 3” pvc pipe then going up and around a scale with a 1” rod on it. Then went back down and around the pvc 5-6 times. The scale was hooked to a winch. Got very consistent results.

The most important data point in this test is the number of runs. Obviously the statistical significance increases with sample size but from this sample size of two the range of the PLINE (21.5) brings into question the process control of manufacturing and or in raw materials! Regardless I’ll be using the Bass Pro product as my livelihood doesn’t rely on fishing line performance so I’ll save the cash! Thanks for taking the time to run your test, it was another great example that the price alone doesn’t guarantee you’re getting a better product!

I use, almost exclusively, Seagar Invisx and never have had an issue with line breaking. I use it because it lays on the reel spools so much better than P Line or any other I have tried. By laying on the spool better I get improved casting distance and no backlashing. But t each their own.

The diameter of the line is clearly what determines it's abrasion abilities and that goes for all types of line . I prefer a smaller diameter of line because it is less affected by current flow ; large diameter fishing line will blow out of a drift much faster than small diameter line every time. Good line should always break at the knot is the best test that you want to do when comparing different brands of fishing line.

Line lb. ratings by companies are inconsistent (unless they are a class rated line that is guaranteed to break at its stated rating. Even then, when registering your catch for the record books, they will test the line you used to verify its rating)... Instead test using the same diameters for the best comparisons. Also verify the diameter to be sure it is as stated on the box (there can be a high degree of variance from spool to spool). Glad you are doing this... there are a lot of accepted "truths" out there that need to be put to the test to see if they hold up.

A Guy next to me brought up a short Grouper with a leader hanging out of its mouth. He asked me if this was my leader - and it was!!! It did Not break at the knots, but the line itself! I switched over to Seaguar and I have had No issues so far. I have out fished everyone on the boat who was using a mono leader. Sometimes stealth is necessary over abrasion resistance. For the abrasion test results: I think the best way to rank would be by the lowest of the trials and/or least variability between the trials. It's kind of like a chain - it breaks at the strength of the weakest link. You don't know which section of the line will be the one abrading in the field. I guess this is only true if you think the variability is in the line. If the variability is in the test procedure (e.g. which part of the sandpaper was it on, how fast you rubbed, etc.), then max seems to make sense. I'm not sure how to determine where the variability is. In any event, if many trials were performed and one line had much less variability, I would suspect the line was more variable than the test procedure.

It is important to note that there is no industry standard as far as labeling line breaking strengths. Meaning, a company may label a line as 10lb test, when it will actually break at 15lb. There is another video on youtube of a Seagaur expert explaining this, noting that the only measure of comparison should be line diameter. I'd like to see another test with lines of similar diameter are compared. Also, line memory should be taken into consideration. I love P-Line for fishing around docks and heavy structure, but MAN does it have some memory. You would literally have to stretch the line out before you could fish.

Scott Martin grabbing the line on the giant fish at the Harris chain and having it break off left a sour taste for me on pline

Yup. Everyone has their own experiences with the lines. This is just the data I got from the tests

You should do this test on vicious fluro

How bout test in a lake, or pool, with a scale with line at 30 feet - 5 feet? Friction under water is much different than above water.

I did in an aquarium in a recent video ..

Underwater visibility is pretty much the same as your experiment….the sunlight is penetrating the water from above, or at a top down angle, making all four lines invisible…I use P Line Tactical for Winter Steelhead fishing, bait drifting and float/jig fishing, in a river loaded with wood (trees, stumps, willows and logs) and have no complaints…

How well it casts, line memory, diameter, longevity.

Did not expect that - very cool abrasion test

Please do a knot test.

Great work, couldn't get a fairer test. How about line flexability, don't know how you would do the test but it would be interesting.

I appreciate that. You mean like line stretching ?
@peterharley19222 жыл бұрын
@@DishesandFishes Yes , but also how supple / rigid each line is. Could even go with how easy it is to tie a knot. Cheers mate.

I've had Seagar snap on me more than once, so this makes sense to me. As for the price comparison, did all the spools have the same amount of line? I'm sure you thought of that, lil smartie. Great vid.

Yes the same amount of line was accounted for.. thank you!
