Tied the Alberto backwards, ALMOST always your mono/flouro is thicker than your braid. Wrap braid around mono!!!! IMPORTANT that the wrapping line exits the "loop" to the same side it entered. For offshore we tie a lot of 40 or 50lb flouro to 30lb braid. Could you imagine trying to wrap 40 lb flouro around braid?? Good luck with that!

Looks like a great knot but the albright seems a lot quicker and easier. I also feel wrapping the braid around the mono makes the knot stronger and gives it a lower profile.

@@stevensands33 Mono has higher abrasion resistance than braid because it's a single filament. Since braid is woven from many individual fibers once a few of them are compromised there's more and more stress on the remaining fibers and they just give out. In the case of leader knots you want the mono on the outside taking the hits against the guides unless it's much, much thicker than the braid.

Great knot but would never put a flame near my line. If you look closely You can see the melting of the mono/ flouro at the knot. It’s unnecessary and can only weaken the line. Especially if you are bouncing on the waves. Your method looks simple and quick other than the fire. Thank you I’m going to try it

Mushrooms are necessary on lots of knots. If you wet the line and use your nails to gaurd the knot it is completely fine.

Iv done it your way and my tag end tends to point up and away from the reel causing the tag to wrap around my guides. was thinking maybe this would make the tag point towards my reel so if it duz snag it will snag on when i reel in which would be more manageable. Right?

Smaller the knot the better! May be fine with bigger pole eyelets but for me FG is the bomb and double uni are my go tools but I like to learn new things...nice video

I would never use a double uni. The Albero knot is easier to tie, smaller, and twice as strong I use is on all lines that are about the same diameter, To tie heavy leader to braid the FG is the ONLY way to go.

knots such as this are not so easy to do on the bank or in the boat with the wind howling into your face, for this reason I find that a simple 6 wrap surgeons knot is much easier to do when I am attaching my fluorocarbon leader to my braid

Once I learned the FG there’s no going back, except for a quick tie-on when I’m in an awkward position, then I’ll use the improved Albright. Nothing beats the low profile and strength of the FG, especially when you’re using line of any thickness

@forrhs8430 I can't disagree with you. I have been using it for the last 4 years. I sat at home for the better part of a year watching the BASS live events and the MLF live events on the TV/phone and tied the knot with line I was planning on donating until I felt I had it down to where I could fish it in a tournament. It was taking about 2 to 3 minutes to tie it aside from the fact that it would take two or three tries before it actually worked. Now, it takes about 30 seconds, and it won't affect my fishing.

Yeah Ill stick with the Alberto. Been using it for over a decade with out a problem. Its simple, fast, and hard to get wrong. It may not be the strongest knot but Im fishing for bass, not Atlantic blue marlin. Try tying this knot or knots like the FG on a windy day on a pitching bass boat in foot rollers. Good luck!

I use that knot and I’ve had huge black tip sharks and it’s never ever once broke off always breaks off at my snap snivel. Even if I get snagged on the reef it’s never has broken off

fg is the strongest knot you can tie without a bobbin and the only leader to braid knot i would ever use. most people won't need it. alberto is a northeast surfcaster and he needed something he can tie out on a rock at night when the waves are breaking around you. as far as i know he's caught more 50 lb stripers from shore than any man alive.

I do this one immediately... In my life I always do the double albright knot with satisfaction and a minimal mistakes on a spinning fishing session... but this one appear more accurated and even with a small diameters such as in an eging braid and mono is easy to see every turn of the lines. Looks like a fine strong knot. Looks a lot like the Alberto knot. I like long fluorocarbon leaders that go into the reel. I tried the Alberto knot one a baitcaster once. Just once, never again. It will literally rip your thumb skin, the fluoro tag end goes the wrong direction. If this knot suits your purpose, fine. The FG knot once you learn how to tie it is just a superior knot in all cases IMO. I've been using the FG for years, before I was practiced at it, I had a couple unravel. I have never had one break.

Always called this knot the Crazy Alberto. Except here you're wrapping the braid with the mono or flouro instead of the other way around. Regardless, for me one of the easiest and best knots to use when you have braid to a mono or flouro leader. Cheers!

You need to do it in reverse like the Alberto Knot. The tag end doesn’t catch on the eyes when casting. Wrap the braid around the fluorocarbon.

My only problem with braided(20lb) main to fluorocarbon(~8lb) leader....these smaller diameter lines are IMO more difficult to tie with some of these videos....if not the double uni...it's a swivel which also prevents line twist for the win.

That's the Alberto knot! The Carrot knot is similar, but uses a single strand of the thick line with an overhand loop tied in the end which the lighter line is threaded through instead. This makes it slimmer.

I have had 400 pound + fish on an FG knot, 80lb braid to 80lb floro/wire rigs. Rod will break before the knot would give. Yes, use gloves to fully tighten knot. Melt floro end with lighter so you have a small nub. Finish with half hitches. super glue the knot where it does not overlap the floro...if you have time. This works for all sizes of braid to floro, I use it with 10lb braid to 20lb floro inshore. Will not fail if tied correctly.

I only use this knot on light tackle for bait fishing or small fish or in some cases where my gear is very heavy and overkill for the drag requirements it’s impact strength is not that great and it can slip if too few turns are used! I use my own modified fg or Bimini then to this knot or another similar that was taught to me by Phil Atkinson and he called it the tony Jones leader knot

Whatever knot tying you have for mono to braid with either the end of the mono ends up at the top or ends up at the bottom of the knot you end up losing your eye whenever retrieving or casting. There must be someway the end of the mono especially when the mono is 12lbs or more lbs that end up protruding must be covered inside the knot formed or some other way where the end of the mono is concealed, any suggestion???
