Skyline chili is horrible. I like Wolf chili without beans on hot dogs or Hormel chili with beans on hotdogs. Wolf chili has won several other competitions.

Wolf brand chili is my wife's favorite. I like it too, but my favorite is Campbel's Chunky Chili with beans and Chunky Chili with Hot Spices and beans.

Skyline is not meant to be eaten as a bowl of Chili. It is supposed to be as a condiment for Hot Dogs or as a Sauce for Spaghetti. I thought everyone knew that.

You have to make homemade chili you can’t get anything close to it in a can. I agree that the Campbell’s was the only one that looked good. I’ve used Hormel for hotdogs when being lazy. It’s adequate if you smother it with mustard and onions and maybe some cheese to hide the taste and texture if it.

It’s a favorite here in Cincinnati! It’s meant to be put on hot dogs 🌭 and it’s NOT to thin to put on them. Skyline’s chili is so good there’s always huge lines at their drive thrus. You just don’t know the difference between hot dog chili and bowl chili.

I tried the Hormel chili in nearly puked and then gave it to my dog he took one bite spit it out and then turned around and licked his butt to get the taste out of his mouth

Wolf Brand with Beans is the best canned chili, in my opinion. Firehouse Subs makes a great fast food chili.

I prefer to make my own but when that is not possible, I like Hormel with beans. Sometimes I'll either mix cheese sauce into it and serve it as a dip for game day, or I'll pour it over tortilla chips, top it with cheese and onions, heat it up and add a dollop of sour cream for instant nachos.😋 I tried Wolf brand, and I got a can which was mostly sauce, a scant amount of meat and a handful of beans. It wasn't worth the price and it tasted awful ..🤢 I never bought it again.😕

Stag is the best canned Chile. But I prefer making my own from scratch Best I ever had though was in the late 1970 on a winter motorcycle ride at a diner on the White Mountain Apache Nation. I now live in Costa Rica. We don't see many US products as they are overpriced and will embalm you Pre mortem due all the added chemicals. i am Habanero level concerning heat.

I too prefer scratch made chili. I will look for Stag brand chili. I love hot but habanero scares me. I just bought a can anyway and will be trying the habanero

Skyline chili is supposed to be mixed with spaghetti, that's why it's so thin, so it can soak into the spaghetti, it's not a stand alone chili.

@@Onthegoinwisconsin Skyline is a Cincinnati Ohio regional restaurant. The guy who developed it was Greek I believe. So it is very different. Come to Ohio and have a coney dog or a 3 way (yes thats what its called) Chili, spaghetti, and cheese.

Oh man you can't compare a Cincinnati chili to any other chili! All chili is super regional that its not a comparison. Texas chili has no beans which is the biggest argument with chili but its damn delicious. This is a subject that can never be decided

Not at all. In their restaurants they do offer spaghetti as an option. Skyline Chili puts a tablespoon of cocoa powder in a pot of chili. I knew that hot peppers and chocolate complimented each other's flavor profile but never thought of it for chili. How could I have missed it? Anyhoo, the cocoa adds a warmth and depth to the flavor that I really miss when it's not in chili. I highly recommend it for homemade chili.

Nice reviews. I am not a canned chili guy really. Mainly because when I have had them have been seriously disappointed in them. I did like Hormel back in the 70's. I was a teenager then and thought for a heat and eat meal it was pretty good. Over the years, I think their recipe has changed and me realizing how easy making chili is. I have been in chili contests and my chili has come in 4th place (out of the money). Out of 20 contestants, my guess is 17 of us came in 4th place 🙂. But I do make a pretty good chili. Not award worthy but much better than those you reviewed.

Moons ago I bought 1 can of Castleberry Chili and it was gross and flat out NASTY. So I thought my dog would eat it, needless to say he walked away from it. You know chili is bad if the family dog won't go after it. As for other brands that you would like to have more heat or spices, you can always add hot sauce, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic and onion/powder, Rotel and/or Tony's/Zatarain's creole seasoning, cumin to dress it up to your liking. I couldn't cover/dress up the Castleberry no matter how hard I tried. Just a thought when thinking of trying other brands...stay away from Castleberry brands of anything, especially chili... LOL

I tried Wolf chili for the first time today (without beans). I would like that on a hot dog with onions. Love chili dogs! I've never had turkey chili but the original Hormel with beans is my favorite, and I stock it up for lean times.

Skyline chili is the worst...its all the "pumpkin spices" that make it taste disgusting...although it's only used as a topping for Cincinnati "chili" spaghetti. Like vegemite, its something you have to be raised eating.

You compared Skyline to tex-mex? 🤦‍♂️ This is comical. I worked in a Cincinnati chili parlor as a youth. It is an entirely different thing. It was developed by Greeks and other Levantine people in the early 1900s. They only call it chili because they used chili powder in it. It is more than a condiment but less than an entree. The consistency is that of a heavy sauce. It is almost always served on spaghetti or on hot dogs. Onions and red kidney beans are added to the spaghetti and yellow mustard to the dogs, with bright yellow cheddar cheese shredded over both. The spice profile is very different from tex-mex. Most people put hot sauce and oyster crackers on their "five ways" (5 components: spaghetti, chili, onion, bean, cheese). There are four major area chains: Empress, the original, Abit spicier; Skyline, the biggest is thinner and sweeter; Gold Star, meatier and spicier than Skyline; and Dixie, based in northern Kentucky and a lot like Gold Star. Mom&Pops are everywhere. Every Greek restaurant makes and sells it. It is not tex-mex and not generally consumed alone in a bowl.

Vietta with beans is really good. All others including Wolf I tried are horrible and bitter including Hormel too. I remember Vietta when I lived in Nashville and it was great so I finally found it recently ordering it online from Walmart. Almost all the brands are so bad they are inedible frankly. Just not delicious like Vietta is. Vietta plant is in Nashville.

EVERY BRAND of canned chili has ALWAYS been bitter just NOTHING like homemade not even close, but there was Vietta made in Nashville I first tried in Nashville that was really good- Must have been extremely fresh and just put in the can from the plant cause I remember it was so good. Nothing since has been good but bitter and all brands VERY disappointing and very BITTER, including Wolf that there are lots of reviews here that it is the best. I just did not find that true at all: bitter too like all brands really!
