It would be great to see Bones appear; in 2253 he developed a neural grafting procedure that could be useful if a member of the crew became injured and M'Benga wasn't up to the task of performing the procedure, so he is brought aboard for this single operation. As for other characters, perhaps a young Carol Marcus, she has an accident that leads to her needing treatment, lying to Kirk that she lost the baby or something, which would help with the shock factor in the future. Sulu would be a good one, but he was pilot training in the 2250-2260s before joining Enterprise, unless he is test piloting something that requires the Enterprise to be around.

Bones, to build up his Friendship Bonds with Spock, is my best guess. Of course the younger Bones, Enterprise needs an new Doctor. Nurse chapel never got an Promotion in the books, right? perhaps Mbenga leave the Enterprise to find a cure or way to save his Daughter. so he could be "promoted" out of the way to some Star-base because of that. MBenga saw remembered in the past SNW Seasons of his own mortality and a urge began to raise inside him to focus now more on his own daughter, no one else can save her. aka Parent protection Instincts overgrow Ships Crews&Friends, and all on the ship understand this if they know the truth about his Daughter. Una and Pike would even support this decision. But also, Nurse Chapel could become acting Medical chief, to introducing Bones with the Enterprise Crew, temporary and when Bones had follow long enough "her shadow" she could transfer to where Mbenga gone to assist him. so she can get her Promotion out of the Books to be fair to her. also Nurse Chapel special Bond with Spock could give Bones an better head start, he become for both the best friends, that could explain the deep bond later with Spock and Bones. Just saying, not demanding of course. Peace!
