In 1929, the Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini, the head of the Italian government, ended the "Prisoner in the Vatican" problem involving a unified Italy and the Holy See by negotiating the Lateran Treaty, signed by the two parties. Yeah, kinda surprised you didn't mention either Vatican or the Sovereign Military Order of Malta Both lost 100% of their land at one point, yet remained more or less a sovereign entity under international law, and in Vatican's case they eventually regained a minuscule 0.001% of their former territory (yeah I did the math, they went from about 44000 to 0.5 km²)

4:16 Note: (I'm from the U.S) but nobody around me has the desire to invade the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico, nor any politician I know. It's actually the exact opposite, we want to stay out of Mexico. Mainly due to increase in crime and violence, political unrest, mass immigration, and of course dr*us that has hit Mexico hard and it's been especially worse recently. There is some wonderful spots in Mexico, I'd love to visit sometime. But you have to be careful. Also there's WAY more important stuff to do than invading a close ally to our South. Especially during inflation, ongoing conflicts going in that U.S has been distracted by, and it's a critical election year for U.S. Also I don't see the point invading Mexico, there would be way cons than benefits. It's also very hard to invade, and recently investment in Mexico has increased and most of those investors are Americans, Canadians, and Chinese to name a few so if we decided to go through with an invasion, a lot of people would be upset...

Even though I live in the US and live in California, I feel sorry for Mexico in losing that much territory to the US in history. It was proposed during the First World War from Germany that they could help Mexico get back Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. That was what also brought the US into the war when they found out. But, I would like to see Arizona, New Mexico, and parts of Texas given back to Mexico someday. Just those 3 states would be fine with me.
