Ovi more fun to watch, best goal scorer but Crosby is the better overall player but stop with the “164 less games too” BS. That’s Crosby’s problem and is actually a knock against him. Giroux is one of those players where I think a cup ring might be what decides him making the hall or not. His numbers as they are now are closer to the HOF locks of his time (Kane, Toews, Backstrom, etc) than most people realize, and there's a strong argument that he should have won the Hart for his 2017-18 performance. But between the Flyers management refusing to rebuild around him in his prime in the early 2010s, and his biggest comparison point being Crosby on the other side of the Battle of PA, his actual talent level vs the perception of it doesn't line up as well as it should.

True. The HOF is a hockey hall of fame and should not just be NHL players. This would also add some more players to the list and players like Marleau would be locks for sure. With so many more teams now, winning a cup is statistically less likely and should not be a guarantee/deal breaker for HOF inclusion. Some very good players never won a cup or even had the chance. For example Lundqvist, Luongo and Miller. No cups. Kevin Hodson, Glenn Healy and Antti Niemi have cups. Who's more hall worthy? Maybe in the future even the president's trophy will be considered amongst the criteria. I think the process should be more transparent. If Quick and Miller get a look where is Tom Barrasso and Mike Vernon? And the perpetual debate over Chris Osgood.

He’s nearly a point per game player and was a consistent 40+ goal scorer during his time with Atlanta. Although Ilya had a very respectable career I don’t think it’s enough to reserve him a spot in the HOF. He’s just shy of 1000 games with a +/- in the negative hundreds, only 40 career playoff games, and a just one individual award for most goals by a rookie (Rocket Richard). I’m afraid kovalchuk doesn’t have the accolades to be considered equal to other HOF candidates. I think if he would’ve stayed in the NHL and shot for 1000 games he’d have a much higher chance of making it in.

Crosby is also missing some of the hardware and not ahead in points due to his considerable injury problems. Going by his points being 6 behind with significantly less games played, and considering he was injured the most in his absolute prime during 130+ point pace seasons, it makes sense Ovechkin has more hardware. He's played more full seasons by a lot. Going by PPG, points per game, Crosby has been better over his career. The Stanley Cup stuff is a deal sweetener but I think the Conn Smythe trophy should be a consideration for both Crosby and Ovechkin, as well as Malkin, Keith, Quick and any other players I forgot who won the Smythe and are on that list. Listen, Crosby and Ovechkin are generational players, one is exceptional at goal scoring but the raw production of Crosby is just as important, maybe more so. I think it's fair to say Crosby is one step above Ovechkin but that takes away nothing from what Ovechkin is, the greatest goal scorer of all time, if not then of his generation by a mile. Era adjusted, he has to have the most absurd goal output ever.

Could you imagine an alternate dimension where the Caps draft Malkin #1 and Ovie falls to the Pens at #2 in 2004? Crosby and Ovie on the same line for their entire careers... Yikes... I feel that Malkin is the better all-around player and would bring this up when a large number of Caps fans seemed to think that it was Ovie's fault for them not getting pasted the Pens in 2016/17 and wanted him traded.

Ovi is one of my favorite players but he is more of a goal scorer than all around type. He doesn't pick up assists in bunches like Crosby does. Serious comment: Personally I wish the Hall of Fame was based on “impact on a game”, because for me I think that’s way more important than playing 1000 games, racking up a ton of points, and benefitting by playing with some great players. A guy like Dustin Brown will never sniff the HOF yet nobody can tell me that from 2012-2014 he wasn’t one of the most impactful players in the league. Same thing goes for a guy like Mike Richards. Awards are great and all, yet there is extreme East Coast (and marketplace) Bias as well. If you were a force on a team that won a Stanley Cup, or carried your team, you should make the Hall.
