I think goalies in general get criticized and judged to a harsher degree than other positions. A lot of the goalies on your second board were either crucial to Stanley Cup runs, great assets on teams that just never quite got to the top, or carried mediocre/bad teams on their back. In any scenario, the team they were on would have been nothing without them and it proves how elite they were. One of my criteria for the HOF in any league is whether they have success changing the way the game is played. I'm a casual LA homer that doesn't watch as much hockey as I'd like to, but Quick is (was?) one of the most flexible, dynamic, and aggressive goalies I've ever seen. He plays the game more akin to a soccer sweeper keeper than a shot stopper. Not sure if that is enough to get him in, but I feel it should at least merit contention.

Miikka Kiprusoff's an interesting one, 319 career wins, A trade to the Calgary Flames in 2003-04 brought Kiprusoff into a starting role, and he set a modern NHL record for lowest goals against average (GAA) at 1.69 as he helped the Flames reach the 2004 Stanley Cup Final. He won the Vezina Trophy as the best goaltender in the NHL in 2006 along with the William M. Jennings Trophy for giving up the fewest goals in the League. He played in his first NHL All-Star Game in 2007 and is the Flames' franchise record holder in both wins and shutouts. His career .921 playoff save percentage was .09 higher than his .912 regular season average. Many skaters are mentioned in the playoffs as either disappearing or taking it up a notch, Miikka certainly took it up a notch in the playoffs. More/Less or As important to the Flames success as Iginla? Maybe one day the Flames will retire his number.

just a quick thought.. since it’s the Hockey Hall of Fame, shouldn’t international competitons such as Olympic medals and World Cup (only as of now..) also have some weight? I’m not talking deal breakers but some consideration?

The fact that Barasso & Vernon aren't in the HOF but guys like Giacomin, Esposito, and Cheevers are in is OUTRAGEOU!

Yes, they should call it the Rod Langway Trophy for Best Defensive Defencemen.

Curious if you were to expand your thoughts on the Ryan Miller trade to St Louis. I remember being so sure the Blues were going all the way when they got Miller even though their goaltending was solid before the trade, and then... well.

Out of those that are retired ... Luongo is the only one that should get in .. Maybe Cujo, having played for Toronto will eventually help his case.

Goalies have it way harder. Forwards have some established bars to achieve to be a hOfer. Even defenseman can use that standard to some extent. But goalies have no standards since the stat keeping has changed drastically for their position

Fleury should be going to the HOF, absolutely no doubt about it that he’s better than some that are already in there. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t have a Vezina, he proved that when the Pens were done with him & thought he was washed up... he came out and had the best season of his career and carried Vegas to the Stanley Cup Final in their very first year as a team! He should arguably have a Conn Smythe too but they just handed it to Crosby by default

Most underrated goalie who needs to be in all day long with the amount of awards. Stanley cup final. Not even on your list Olaf Kolzig.

It’s a crime that Chris Osgood isn’t the HHOF, and for skaters(Mogilny)
@allsystemsgo86784 жыл бұрын
I agree about Mogilny. Osgood no
@Zamppa864 жыл бұрын
Osgood is pretty much the most overrated goalie of the modern era. Sure he has wins and cups but he also played for Detroit before the salary cap which reduces the value of those stats some. Osgood was good but no way HOF level.
@bradhoff4 жыл бұрын
Osgood is 4th in playoff shutouts. 50 regular season shut outs. He was second in Conn's Smythe voting in 08 and 09. 401 wins and still put up numbers with horrible nyi and STL teams. 17 straight years in the playoffs Osgood belongs more than fuhr.

@@TheHockeyGuy They are counting Lester Patrick because he once played emergency goaltender when Lorne Chabot was injured, and the Rangers won the Cup with Lester in net. But they are not showing his stats as a goaltender.

I believe Tim Thomas belongs in the hall. He set NHL records, won 2 vezina trophy, Conn Symth and a Stanley Cup. I also believe that you can make an argument that the NHL should make a journeyman wing for people like Tim Thomas.

I think Fuhr petitioned and got his name on the 5th Edmonton Cup too! Fuhr played 21 games for Edmonton in the 1989-1990 season. It's 5 for Fuhr, not 4.
