Totally agree. I’m an old soul that loves Tuscan decor! Still a classic and after all these years still love it! I love farmhouse, nautical etc and wish I had many homes to decorate each differently but I think I would get tired of each one of them within a year at most. Tuscan style is in my blood. I feel it and will never get tired of it. So I won’t change it. Just adding a few new decorative pieces or rugs to freshen it up

Spot on.... EXCELLENT...EXCELLENT POINTS ! I love when you share you knowledge, it helps so much when we start to second guess our design ideas... Everything you mentioned I have at some point discussed with other people who don’t agree or don’t LIKE what I love! I have for as long as I can remember ( being almost 64 ) I have loved the “ industrial/ farmhouse/ comfy home look”. I know...crazy right? How does one mix industrial and farmhouse to make it comfy! You can and I do ..... Amazing video and THANK YOU!!!!

I appreciate this topic - back for a second viewing while washing my dishes. I have always (*always*) loved crisp white walls, buffalo check, and a raw wood look. I’m 41 and my childhood bedroom set was a real heavy, rustic wood - think of the furniture you see in the standard dorm common rooms. I had bumpy white milk glass mirror frames and sconces, and wore a red & black buffalo check shirt for my 8th grade school picture in 1992 (New England girl). I am absolutely enjoying these current trends...but I will certainly be considered outdated in a decade! Ha!

I am a lover of roosters I admit, but I agree that if you love a particular thing or style it will never go out of style for you. Your home should reflect your taste and style. I don't worry about trends because I decorate with the things and colors I love.

My mother was all about the geese in the late 80’s/early 90’s! And of course the country mauve and country blue. She’s passed now, but I always smile when I see these discarded trend items in a thrift store.

I love this! I think your best point was "Does it spark joy?". We are so bombarded by marketing and status quo on social media and everywhere else, staying true to yourself and the things you really love is the most important thing. It shouldn't matter how your neighbor decorated. Your taste can be beautiful too!

Currently renovating a cottage on a farm, and what I'm looking for is something timeless and classic. While there are times when trends might be nice, I've realized it's best not to put most of the budget on something that could fall out of style in the next 10 years.

Hi! Love your channel and style. I have to say that I started my young married life (1985) in the "country" style decorating... at one time I had 85 Longaberger baskets, the hanging candles, clutter ge-jaws etc. While I love the clean classic farmhouse look (I think Joanna Gaines) and I really think that the merchandise industry is ruining it and many people that consider themselves decorators are also. Signs and letters and sayings and too much STUFF! that is what I think about for the 80's/90's stuff stuff stuff. I hope classic antiques/farmhouse stays in style because I have a lot of antique pieces that were my Dad's and Grandparent's.

I am really not watching the channels anymore that are all about gray everything, black/white or gray/white buffalo checks, and anything Rae Dunn. I am 72 and have been collecting blue/white chinoiserie all my life. I love traditional with an edge, and change my fabric and paint colors about every five years. My dining room walls are navy blue above the bead board and have been for five years. I have one magnificent oriental rug that will always reside in my living room - it is old and threadbare in places. I have put some inexpensive orientals in other rooms, like navy, hot pink, and mustard, and I think every room needs a little bit of animal print. I love decorating and have to purge regularly just for the sake of space, but these are inexpensive trend-driven things. I have some things I have loved for fifty years and will never get tired of. But decorating and creating a beautiful home (*I* think LOL) is a passion that gives me more joy than I can say. I love your channel, by the way!

I L_O_V_E! your green chalk painted cabinet. This green (finished with a dark wax) is MY color and vintage is my style! I did change my style recently when we sold our 2,800 sq. ft country ranch home that was decorated in larger-scale vintage/antiques that no longer fit into our 1,200 sq. ft. condo that came fully furnished. Now my condo is more contemporary/classic than before so it's been an interesting change. Talking about "trends" I remember my painted wooden watermelon stage in the 1970's. Yes, I too put in granite countertops as well but this did help me sell my home in 2018 I enjoyed those granite countertops for almost 20 years so I got my money's worth in the end. (My husband ate toast every night and never cleaned up his crumbs so this was a non-a/c rural home on a homestead where white stone countertops would have been a big mistake. )

I have used antiques in my home my entire adult life.(Just turned 61!) I enjoy updating my decor with "trends". I was never a "geese" person--but I did do the chickens and birds--birdcages--. Sure. I am finding I like less of any of it as I get older. I used to use all of my 13 tubs of Christmas decorations, now I use 2.. I was wary of the dark granite when it came into vogue--and it makes me sick to see people rip it out and throw it in the landfill! My husband is a welder--his friend is in AC. They made my stainless steel countertops for less than $200 so I could splurge on my island quartz. Still love it 20 years later.

My style has been country ranch for 30 years, but I am much more minimal and neutral than I used to be. Serene and simple is what I love. Pillows, plants, throws, and beautiful linens. I kind of cringe when I think of my hunter green and mauve days.

What a refreshing review of decorating. Some homes are replicas of current trends and others have a timeless foundation, allowing for various simple updates. I am learning that the foundation is incredibly important, just as the foundation of our lives. We can portray ourselves with all the current trends, or reveal the genuine nature of who we are. Genuine, although more difficult to reveal and portray, is truly timeless.

To the viewers... sorry to interrupt, but just want to say: I discovered your channel on KZbin as I was looking for idea's in decorating. Daughter just bought her first house (its big). I will be moving in with her as she will be "House Poor" for a while. I get the the two bedrooms in back part of home (kind of like a mother-in-law suite). The idea is to help her out for a few months and allow me to add more money to my savings for my own home close by. Although not happy to loose my privacy, I will do my best for a few months. I will be helping with DIY projects indoors, and landscaping the outdoors. My hope as a mother, is to help my daughter make her new home into something she loves, as she transitions into a more aesthetic home that she can call her own. So, 15 of your videos later.... well.. I love what you do. I've DIY's things (I'm 62) for many years and gotten pretty good at many DIY things. Your videos have not only brought a new 2021 perspective to things for me, but the excitement to jump in and make some beautiful projects. I will admit, my design loves and my daughters are a little different... but I will be also working on projects for myself and my new home once purchased. So THANK YOU

Long story, but I've never have really known really what my design style was until these last couple of years. I feel like I'm blooming into it. I've always liked certain things, but there was pressure from a certain wind direction to follow the trends, to be "in style," whether I liked that current style or not. And when I expressed my likes, they were put down as unimportant. It's a status thing to "be in style" but I've always been one step behind. I've recently decided to veer off and do what makes me happy. smile! Thanks for speaking on the topic.

Ok I’m dating myself here. But we’ve built 4 homes, remodeled a couple & starting a new build next year. In the 90’s it was “ducks & geese”, all country. Late 90’s I designed one of my homes in the cranberry colors, cherubs were popular...with a Southern feel. In the early millennium the Tuscan theme rose in my area. Now it’s Farmhouse. I’m too old to reinvent myself again so I’m going to stay with what is simple, clean but still me. I’m a retired lighting designer so I guess I’ll pull off something I can live with and avoid future trends.😊but at my heart I do like the country feel over anything contemporary or mid century. Just make it “home”, that’s my motto.

I had started to notice the fashion industry trying to say what is going out and coming in but really these young stay at home blogger/vloggers Moms are setting the real trends and you're not going to throw out a style after a couple of years after making an investment. I'm not young but I know I'm not. I thought black and white Buffalo check was going to play out several years back, but it's still going strong and l LIKE IT, so last year I went all in in my house and I am this year too, for every season with my traditional colors. We love neutrals but we did not want to live with them I'm still a rooster girl, that's not going to change, but they are tasteful and classic, not cartoony. Lol,, My husband and I had the chunky blue, and mauve sofa for 20 years (so comfortable and raggety) and I ADORED COUNTRY, me and my best friend for years I try to get classic things that will last a while and be natural in my house. Special things. I have found so many WONDERFUL things thrifting!

I love vintage decorating too. I drive through neighborhoods just to look at Craftsman and Victorian houses. What I don't understand about people and bandwagon trends is how all of a sudden people will like something because it's a trend. Maybe they don't know what they like, and they just go by whatever everyone else likes or is cool at the time. I remember watching House Hunters 10 or 15 years ago and everyone wanted cherry floors and cabinets. Now it's all white cabinets and hardwood floors. Those are classics, for sure, so why did people want something so different just 10 years before? I will just stick to a vintage, relaxed, cottage-y style--creams and greens (like the cabinet in this video) and even ditsy flowers--but even I must admit that I have way too many modern-farmhouse "word" signs in my kitchen right now.
